Monsoon Dress buttons caught in DD hair

Hello. I am trying to find out if anyone one else has had a similar problem with a monsoon summer dress. The dress has tiny square buttons down the back and when my daughter wore it to her birthday party on Saturday her hair became entangled badly enough that I had to cut it away from the buttons. I have been complaining to monsoon and they have assured me that the dress was tested but were unable and possibly unwilling to tell me how this was done with a child with long hair. My daughter's hair is quite long and it was French plaited with the length of the plait coming down the middle of her back so it was testing on the buttons. I think there is nothing unusual about the my 8yr ( she was 8 on Sunday, this dress is age 9 because my daughter is very tall, she has size 3.5 feet ) old having this hair style.

Monsoon were quick to tell me that no one else has complained. IN interested in trying to find other people that have had similar clothing issues. Has anyone ?!

(also if there is a better place to place this please tell me !)

Sorry op, this is even more ridiculous than I can be at times! Thanks for the laugh!

Iconfuseus · 20/08/2014 12:23

LiverpoolLou

I'm sorry but I did laugh at your head scanner story! Grin

I hope that your migraines issue has been resolved.

BarbarianMum · 20/08/2014 12:25

Hidden seams are added for zips because zips are ugly. The buttons are obviously decorative so no need for a seam.

If your dd wants long hair as a not so little child/ adult she will get used to this

Salmotrutta · 20/08/2014 12:28

Ooh!

I've just remembered the time I was doing the eightsome reel at a wedding and my bracelet got caught in my dancing partners watch strap.

It was the bastardised version of the eightsome reel.

GemmaTeller · 20/08/2014 12:29

I've got really long curly hair, it gets caught in everything.

The wind once whipped it up whilst I was getting in my car and it got trapped when I shut the car door - do you think Fiat ever tested their car doors for that?

MissMalonex2 · 20/08/2014 12:32

Is this for real? If it is OP you need to get out more or volunteer for charity or something - can't believe you wasted energy on even pondering on this let alone contacting monsoon and posting here....

Rainicorn · 20/08/2014 12:43

Just when I thought MN couldn't get any crazier Confused

I once got my lady garden stuck in the zip of my jeans when trying to go sans knickers. I was young and very stupid. Maybe I should have sued Levi at the time?

chemenger · 20/08/2014 12:47

I have had long hair in the past and caught it on buttons, in zips, in the hinge of my glasses, car doors, the adjustment part of a safety helmet, necklaces, earrings, my own mouth, lip gloss, ice cream cones and doubtless many more places. That is what long hair does, how has the OP lived to adulthood without knowing this?

hazeyjane · 20/08/2014 12:55

My dd2 once got a hairbrush stuck in her hair in a chemist, which meant I had to buy the bloody brush and walk her home with it sticking out of her hair to cut it out.

I realise now I should have complained to the chemist!

CouldntGiveAMonkeysToss · 20/08/2014 12:57

This can not be real! YABU op.

TheCraicDealer · 20/08/2014 13:01

I’m not sure what ‘testing’ would be required to show that long hair can (and does) get tangled in buttons. You’d also have to repeat this rigorous testing for different lengths and thickness of hair, before labelling all your products, “WARNING- hair may get caught”. That all costs the manufacturer money, which is ultimately passed on to the consumer.

I don’t want to pay a premium on items to be told the bleeding obvious. YABU.

whois · 20/08/2014 13:07

Ha ha. Ha ha. Ha.

Thanks for the laugh OP.

Owllady · 20/08/2014 13:14

When my eldest two were tiny I was in m&s with them in the double buggy. I was looking fir a present and parked them and was just quickly having a look when I heard this whizzing noise and a shriek from an m&s member of staff. I turned round to find they had each both picked up one of those hand held battery operated fan things, and yep, my daughter had fanned all her hair into and round it.

The m&s lady had to get some scissors in the end and cut it out Blush

SavoyCabbage · 20/08/2014 13:19

A French plait? This seems a reckless style for button wearing.

Maybe try a French pleat next time. Or for something closer to home the Croydon facelift. For complete safety whilst sporting buttons, I personally have plumped for the Eton crop.

My feet are a size four and a half.

Kimaroo · 20/08/2014 13:21

Or maybe a Marge Simpson? Tricky going over the head but a winner in the button department.

SistersOfPercy · 20/08/2014 13:28

Can I complain to my MIL about DH? He lies on my hair in the night and when I try and move I find I'm pinned to the mattress.

Also worth pointing out (though several years too late for DH) that you should never ever EVER run a go go hamster over someones head. I had to cut it off. It was hilarious most distressing.

magpiegin · 20/08/2014 13:29

I am 38 weeks pregnant and hugely hormonal and grumpy. This thread has put a smile on my face!

As someone with long and thick hair I get my hair caught in these buttons all the time. Maybe we could start a campaign? Could be boycott Monsoon and all other brands that have these buttons on the back?

RockinHippy · 20/08/2014 13:29

Have my very first ever Biscuit

magpiegin · 20/08/2014 13:31

Oh and I am a size 4 foot.

MinesAPintOfTea · 20/08/2014 13:33

DownBy you gave up seeing but didn't mention what happened to the occasional lover!

RockinHippy · 20/08/2014 13:33

Though to be a bit more helpful - if it bothers you that much - just shave your DDs hair off.

Perhaps a number 1 could look cute & the skinhead look is back in vogue, so a pair of mini white jeans rolled up over DMs & a nice checked shirt & braces & voila!! - you could look very trendy with the ultimate fashion accessory - a skin head toddlerGrin

5Foot5 · 20/08/2014 13:40

When DD was 6 my sister bought her a battery powered hamster for her birthday. We were playing with it running up her arm and then I stupidly I later realised picked it up and put it on her head. She has long hair and the hair quickly got all ravelled around the mechanism and she was starting to get quite distressed by the time I managed to switch the thing off. She was so hopelessly tangled up in the hamster by then that I had to cut quite a large chunk out of her hair to free it and then take her to the hairdresser and own up!

I must admit it never crossed my mind to contact the hamster's manufacturer and ask then if they had tested their product in that scenario.

DeWee · 20/08/2014 13:43
Grin My dd's hair once got caught in a zip so badly I had to cut it off. The only safe way is the pull on dress.

Mind you I did once have a problem at Monsoon. You see dd2 only has one hand and she liked these really expensive gloves. So I took them to the counter and said under disability discrimination I only wanted to buy the right hand one at half price.
The poor lady looked so horrified and was trying to stutter something out that I couldn't hold my serious face and started laughing, and had to say that I was only joking. I don't think her training had covered that one. Grin She did promise me that if they ended up with single gloves left at the end of season then she'd check with the shop manager and I could have them.

LindaMcCartneySausage · 20/08/2014 13:45

This is bonkers. Do you have a lot of free time to spare, OP? Because you're spending lot of time badgering Monsoon about the rigorousness of their testing procedure and canvassing Mumsnet for something that happens every day. Buttons catch on long hair, durrr.

What next, are you going to sue the person who gave you the dress as a gift?

EauPea · 20/08/2014 13:48

Educated I have done this too many times

I have nearly drowned many times when my hair has tangled around the tops of my arms, leaving them pinned to the side of my head.

I have got tangled many times bending over to put shopping in the trolley, try to straighten up, hair all plaited around the trolley sides.

I have promised myself a haircut many times
