IsChippyMintonExDirectory · 16/08/2014 18:51

Everytime I blimmin go to a restaurant or cafe these days everything is pulled effing pork. Pulled pork sandwiches, wrap, flatbread, pizza - even saw pulled pork on top of chips today and so expensive for what is essentially offal, no?

Anyone care to join me in my pulled pork grump? (and yes I know I can order something else) just think it's over rated

Rillette is much nicer.

A bowl of flour, a ramekin of eggs, a vintage tea cup full of milk. All presented on a rustic roofing tile with chalk drawing showing you hoe to reassemble the ingredients and cook them over the scented pillar candle in the middle of the table.

Halloumo is not new. We've been eating squeaky cheese since the 90s!

Stealthpolarbear · 16/08/2014 22:24

Halloumo being the singular, for the pedants among us. Not a typo at All, oh no

I went through a beetroot phase when I was pregnant with DD. Dinner every night for a week had beetroot on or in it. Then DS started produced pink shitty nappies.

That cured me of my beetroot craving :o

Chips cooked 3 ways in a tiny bucket. Why just why

PinkLights · 16/08/2014 22:26

I thought they were puff pasty, you would want a great big block of butter on that roofing tile!

Stealthpolarbear · 16/08/2014 22:26

Best roots lovely
My addition to the 21c buffet x-pops

Not just ice pops like we had in the 80s

Cake pops
Burger pops
Steak pops
Popcorn pops

Basically stuff-on-a-stick

PinkLights · 16/08/2014 22:27

Yes the first time I was presented with a metal plant pot full of chips, I was very confused.

noddingoff · 16/08/2014 22:28

remember the crossed chives on EVERYTHING?
Also, I don't want a jenga-tower "roast vegetable stack". Or a burger that only somebody with the jaws of a snake could get their chops around.

Scarletohello · 16/08/2014 22:28

I've never had pulled pork and I want some now!

missing out emoticon

Stealthpolarbear · 16/08/2014 22:28

Here oop norf we've evolved to eat off slabs of tree but we've not yet started drinking from jam jArs. I sense an opening on the market,. Might be off to lidl in the morning

PinkLights · 16/08/2014 22:29

Do you remember when they did all mini foods.

There was a mini fish, chip and mushy peas in the Iceland add, I never got around to trying them.

Mini yorkshire pudding with beef from M&S.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/08/2014 22:29

It's revolting, too sweet like mixing pork with jam.
Now proper salt beef, that's more like it.

I used to love salted caramel but it's everywhere. I reckon daim bars would work well with salt.

Stealth, some of the twatty bars in Newcastle do jam jar drinks. I feel like we've failed as a region.

ICanSeeTheSun · 16/08/2014 22:32

I don't get it, if I was to serve coctail sausages on sticks with cheese and pineapple on the sick it would be old fashioned or 'retro' but put a burger or a cake on a stick it's modern

Stealthpolarbear · 16/08/2014 22:32

Good point bear. The biggest nights out I get are at my mums!!

PhilomenaCunk · 16/08/2014 22:34

Savoury naffing popcorn. Stop it. Have a bag of walkers or, better still, Tayto crisps.

I knew this would happen to someone!!!

LumpySpacedPrincess · 16/08/2014 22:42

Dh loves pulled pork but as much as I like the thought of it it always ends up reminding me of Catfood.

unlucky83 · 16/08/2014 22:49

bear parsnip and apple is not a weird soup - I bet I could find an old menu from the late 70s/early 80s with it on...it is a classic! (Parsnip and pear - now that is poncey)
I thought cupcakes were passe now...
Although I predict savoury cupcakes maybe be the next thing ...

And Goat's cheese and caramelised onions are soooooo 90s...Grin

SconeRhymesWithGone · 16/08/2014 22:53

Stainless Steel is right, except for the tomato and mustard malarkey. Grin

Barbecue sauce is a very divisive topic in the US South where pulled pork originated. This is my favorite; it's the oldest form of barbecue sauce and still the best. Supposedly its origins are from the Highland Scots who settled in eastern North Carolina in the 18th Century.
