IsChippyMintonExDirectory · 16/08/2014 18:51

Everytime I blimmin go to a restaurant or cafe these days everything is pulled effing pork. Pulled pork sandwiches, wrap, flatbread, pizza - even saw pulled pork on top of chips today and so expensive for what is essentially offal, no?

Anyone care to join me in my pulled pork grump? (and yes I know I can order something else) just think it's over rated

Mmmm salt beef is lush. My gran always gave us one for Xmas that we ate on Xmas eve

Stealthpolarbear · 16/08/2014 20:39

What's the next big thing for us vegetarians?
"Halved mushroom"

EBearhug · 16/08/2014 20:39

On the plus side, you can now find some dishes without chorizo, which seemed to be impossible about 18 months ago.

picnicbasketcase · 16/08/2014 20:41

Pulled pork is the current thing that people are chucking on everything. Like all the puddings at the moment have salted caramel involved.

Stealthpolarbear · 16/08/2014 20:46

Yes salted caramel is to this decade what death by chocolate was to the nineties

Charley50 · 16/08/2014 20:46

You are so not being unreasonable. It's fucking everywhere.

IsChippyMintonExDirectory · 16/08/2014 20:53

Apologies for the offal mistake (geddit??) Grin

YY to the poster who said about the BBQ sauce. Everything is now "BBQ pulled pork". It makes me heave!

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 16/08/2014 20:57

I love pulled pork, but yanbu. Its everywhere

RonaldMcDonald · 16/08/2014 20:59

Agreed, it is effing everywhere in syrupy sweet BBQ sauce mostly

MissOtisRegretsMadam · 16/08/2014 21:00

Twisted tofu for the veggies maybe?

Loads of restaurants popping up round here doing pulled pork and beef brisket buckets etc... Also since when did coleslaw become just slaw?
The puff daddy of the side dish maybe...

Also the places that offer the pulled pork offer lots of peanut butter themed puddings too.

Trills · 16/08/2014 21:01

YABU to think there is enough of it about to be a problem.

YANBU to dislike it.

I do quite like it though.

Catsmamma · 16/08/2014 21:01

AND since all the supermarkets jumped on the bandwagon and are making their own it's nigh on impossible to buy a decent bit of pork shoulder to do your own.

gits!

Trills · 16/08/2014 21:02

I'd much rather have chorizo though!

PinkLights · 16/08/2014 21:03

It is nice and tasty. Pulled pork will end up being a signature dish on a early 21st centruary themed buffet, a bit like the 70's tin foil covered spud with cheese and pineapple on a cocktail sticks.

ICanSeeTheSun · 16/08/2014 21:05

I have peri peri pulled pork, BBQ pulled pork ( different types) chilli pulled pork.

enderwoman · 16/08/2014 21:06

It's been overdone yanbu.

I see it as this decade's Peking Duck equivalent.

What annoys me is that as soon as a dish becomes mainstream, it costs way more than the original ingredients did when it was invented. Brisket and shoulder are no longer budget cuts that they used to be.

Any idea what the envy big thing is going to be?

GlaceDragonflies · 16/08/2014 21:06

What is pulled pork? I've seen it a lot but never had it as I'm a vegetarian. Recently I have seen pulled beef as well.

FloraPost · 16/08/2014 21:06

Oh, our works caff does 'pulled veg' as the meatless option on pulled pork days. I haven't checked it out, but surely that's got to be soup?

Stealthpolarbear · 16/08/2014 21:11

Missotis I've noticed slaw too. Mentioned it on a thread -apparently it's Delias fault
Pulled pork with a fruity slaw

MimiSunshine · 16/08/2014 21:13

Love love love salt beef. I really want to make my own but can't find the right salt which makes the beef pink rather than off putting brown.

We used to serve it baps in the pub I worked in about 15yrs ago with fried onion and English mustard, yum. Then I went to the a East End a couple of years ago and all the trendy London lot were queuing up to have it bagels from the 24hr bagel shop and saying "I bet you don't get this Opp North" Confused

SconeRhymesWithGone · 16/08/2014 21:14

Y'all need to try the real thing: slow cooked in a pit with the smoke of a wood fire in eastern North Carolina, served with a light vinegar-only (no tomato) based sauce and a bit of coleslaw on top. Food of the gods, and everything else is a pale imitation.

Superworm · 16/08/2014 21:15

I bloody love pulled pork and cook it probably once a week. Agree it's the Peking duck equivalent of 2010's but who cares? It's bloody gorgeous. Goes with everything - potato salad, stirfrys, roast, lentil soups, roasted veg, meat and two veg. It's cheap, easy and healthy.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/08/2014 21:18

I've only had it once, didn't like it but I don't like hog roasts either.

The thing I am sick of when eating out is the lack of plates, everything seems to come on some sort of wood or slate platter with little pots of all the different parts of the meal, almost impossible to eat with cutlery, nowhere to cut food on, please bring back plates.

unlucky83 · 16/08/2014 21:19

YANBU
Even I have noticed it - and pretty sure it was even on the domino's pizza menu earlier this week...
Is it like rillettes?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rillettes
Rillettes are absolutely gorgeous - but haven't had any for years.
Can absolutely understand the rage caused by a shortage of shoulder ...
I'm still annoyed about beef skirt... used to be a really cheap cut of beef - like shin but easier to trim - full of flavour but needs cooking for ages - used to get it to make barley stew and dumplings (reminder of my youth). Then it started costing a fortune and hard to get cos apparently it was becoming popular in restaurants....

ICanSeeTheSun · 16/08/2014 21:22

I like plates. Plates are what is missing in resturants. Bloody stupid wooden board that soaks up all the flavours of my meduim done steak.
