to have complained to the manager about this sign in Debenham

I was browsing in the home department in Debenhams today when I saw the attached sign. I feel that this is not something that Debenhams should be selling. It trivialises guns and domestic violence and is wholly inappropriate. There was no manager around so I complained to a supervisor who seemed to agree with me and said that she would speak to the manager. I told her that I thought she should have it removed from display. I left my contact details but have yet to hear from them.

Yabu, for all the reasons you stated, and it is a very narrow representation of gender. And it's not funny and the font is crappy.

Pagwatch · 11/08/2014 19:26

Grin at 'and the font is crappy'

ephemeralfairy · 11/08/2014 19:27

I mean yanbu!!

Salmotrutta · 11/08/2014 19:27

What a stupid sign Hmm

No wonder it's half price...

HappyAgainOneDay · 11/08/2014 19:27

Yes; too many capital letters.

SauvignonBlanche · 11/08/2014 19:29

YANBU.

trikken · 11/08/2014 19:29

Shouldn't it be 'whilst' or is 'while' correct? Yanbu it is awful anyway.

HauntedNoddyCar · 11/08/2014 19:30

That's a bit bizarre.

MrsWinnibago · 11/08/2014 19:30

YANBU it's awful! More like something you'd see in a nasty little souvenir shop on the seafront of a dying town.

riverboat1 · 11/08/2014 19:30

It is totally bizarre and unfunny. Plus incorrect use of capital letters. I loathe and detest it.

I don't know if I'd go as far as complaining about it though.

OwlinaTree · 11/08/2014 19:30

Why are all the lines starting with capital letters? It makes it virtually impossible to read! And it's daft.

MrsWinnibago · 11/08/2014 19:31

No sensible consumer has ever bought a sign with such a crappy font.

No person with a well developed sense of humour has ever laughed at a sign like that.

Wishfulmakeupping · 11/08/2014 19:38

God debenhams is just full of utter shite now isn't it really is the pits

WitchWay · 11/08/2014 19:41

Awful

trikken while & whilst are both correct. Whilst is seen as old-fashioned now but I prefer it

ohdobuckup · 11/08/2014 19:43

Capital letters on each line seems to be a Windows default setting for anything that might look like a poem...irritating innit

Thebodyloveschocolateandwine · 11/08/2014 19:44

I imagine it would never have been allowed the other way around I,e about a man shooting a woman.

It's gross.

Capitola · 11/08/2014 19:44

It's just naff.

and imagine if it said something like 'no man has ever beaten his wife whilst she was ironing'.

Goodadvice1980 · 11/08/2014 19:48

The thing worse than the shte customer service in Debenhams is the shte that they sale.

I cannot understand how this business is still going!

PhaedraIsMyName · 11/08/2014 20:10

I'd use "whilst" in that context. "While " seems more immediate and specific-"you do the hoovering while I do the dishes"
As opposed to say " they had an arrangement that he used to do the hoovering whilst she did the dishes"

throwingpebbles · 11/08/2014 20:25

Yanbu, its jaw droppingly shit.

Pagwatch · 11/08/2014 21:24

In fairness, Debenhams is the shop where hope goes to die.

Amethyst24 · 11/08/2014 21:29

While is correct here (it's the only right thing about that sign).

"While I was browsing in Debenhams, I saw an annoying sign."

"Whilst Debenhams sell annoying signs, I don't mind their clothes."

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/While

Joysmum · 11/08/2014 21:38

It's shit but not worthy of complaint imo

thatstoast · 11/08/2014 21:45

As long as you accept that when she means she'll tell the manager she's going to tell her manager and laugh about you then yanbu. Please don't expect an actual response.

queenofthemountain · 11/08/2014 21:50

How can you have the headspace to worry about something so inconsequential, and the time to make a complaint?
