to have complained to the manager about this sign in Debenham

I was browsing in the home department in Debenhams today when I saw the attached sign. I feel that this is not something that Debenhams should be selling. It trivialises guns and domestic violence and is wholly inappropriate. There was no manager around so I complained to a supervisor who seemed to agree with me and said that she would speak to the manager. I told her that I thought she should have it removed from display. I left my contact details but have yet to hear from them.

Why have you left your contact details? Is a bounty on offer for finding stupid signs?

It is a terrible sign, for many reasons.

edamsavestheday · 11/08/2014 21:57

That's a crappy sign. Not very funny, even if you overlook the dubious messages. And agree with everyone about the typeface and weird use of capitals.

UriGeller · 11/08/2014 21:59

And wrong. I once shot my DP in the arse with a water pistol while he was washing the dishes.

It was hilarious.

MorphineDreams · 11/08/2014 22:00

How can you have the headspace to worry about something so inconsequential, and the time to make a complaint?

Possibly because people would be in uproar if it was about a man shooting a woman

thicketofstars · 11/08/2014 22:02

Rubbish sign.

Pipbin · 11/08/2014 22:07

Bloody dreadful. Not much point complaining to the store manager, I doubt they have any say in the tut they sell. Write to head office instead.

Andallmyhopeisgone · 11/08/2014 22:09

Yanbu, is it meant to be funny? I don't get it

TSSDNCOP · 11/08/2014 22:12

Why on earth were you in Debenhams, that's surely the real question?

gobbynorthernbird · 11/08/2014 22:13

There is every chance I'd shoot my husband while he was washing the dishes. He'd have his back to me and no chance of escape.

StoneTheFlamingCrows · 11/08/2014 22:15

I can't see pics on app! What did it say?!

SunshineOutdoors · 11/08/2014 22:18

Capital bloody letters no no no! Who would put that sign up?

HelloLA · 11/08/2014 22:22

Naff as hell, and my Nan would've loved it. She had an entire collection of signs like these, and most of them rhymed, too. I am tempted to buy this one as an act of homage. Half-price, did you say?

MrsWinnibago · 11/08/2014 22:28

My MIL has a horrendous 1970s wooden plaque on the door to the loo that says "It's here!"

I was Shock when I saw it but MIL hasn't changed anything since she designed her interiors in the late 60s! My Mum is very stylish so it's a source of fascination for me. MIL has some side tables that are so awful they're back in fashion!

CuttedUpPear · 11/08/2014 22:34

I'm glad you complained, well done.

LittleBearPad · 11/08/2014 22:36

It's terrible but I love that posters are pointing out the grammar punctuation and font.

Bluebelljumpsoverthemoon · 11/08/2014 23:25

People will find offence in anything no matter how silly, you're entitled to complain and they're entitled to roll their eyes and ignore you because your complaint is irrational, hysterical and bizarre.

pissedglitter · 11/08/2014 23:28

Can't see pics on the app can someone please explain

LittleBearPad · 11/08/2014 23:47

Naff sign for putting on the kitchen wall in an oh so amusing way saying "No woman has ever shot a man while he was washing the dishes"

Sprinkle a few random capitals in there and you have debenhams finest wit.

UrbaneLandlord · 11/08/2014 23:53

[sigh] Another mumsnet moral panic thread.

It's always easier create imaginary demons in the outside world than face up to the real demons inside your own head.

gobbynorthernbird · 11/08/2014 23:56

Or, to just be exceptionally pissed off at sexist bullshit which affects every woman, every day.

Heathcliff27 · 11/08/2014 23:59

It's a crap sign but it really wouldn't bother me enough to get my knickers in a twist about and make a complaint.

See it, make an opinion that its crap, move on, forget about it.

CeliaLytton · 12/08/2014 00:03

No man
Has ever
Shot a woman
Whilst she was...

Sucking his cock?
Changing a tyre?
Building a wall?

Sexist, unfunny and ugly. It wouldn't have crossed my mind to complain, I would have walked right past it, but YANBU to raise it, you have made your point and now they can do what they like.

Keepcalmanddrinkwine · 12/08/2014 00:14

I think the fact you complained shows that you won't put up with double standards. I'm sure most Mumsnetters would have been in uproar if it was a sign about women.

CaoNiMa · 12/08/2014 06:37

The flippant 'there are worse things to worry about' responses that threads like this always get remind me how deeply entrenched we are in the patriarchal status quo. Depressing.
