to think that my 8 year old is not 'young for her age' because she likes Frozen?

I think this is ridiculous. An acquaintance popped round to borrow something yesterday and commented thatcDD is 'very young for her age' because she was running around in her frozen dress (made by grandma and DD adores it), singing various songs?

She was actually quite rude about it, saying how her DD's were 'long past' that stage when they were 8. It's not important, I know, but she really pissed me off. I don't think she's too old for it at all and told her so. Cow.

How rude of her. And utterly ridiculous. I would say 7 is absolutely the target demographic for that film!

For what it's worth, my DDs (11 and 14) watch it regularly and can quote whole scenes from it. I took my 77 year old mother to see it at Christmas and she loves it too. Maybe she is a little immature for her age Wink

Ignore her. I wish I had a frozen dress as well.

Heels99 · 11/08/2014 08:27

I know 15 and 17 year olds who have seen it and love it and have the DVD. Obviously not the dresses! Yanbu she is 8! Presumably frozen was not released when her dd was 8. Agree a lot of them have grown out of princesses by 8 but frozen seems to bring out the inner princess in everyone and surely would have been same for her dd too. What is the rush to stop singing and dressing up?

picnicbasketcase · 11/08/2014 08:28

Ridiculous. Disney films are for all ages. There are plenty of adults who like Frozen.

greeneggsandjam · 11/08/2014 08:29

Weird. Tiny children up to adults seem to quite like it.

Agggghast · 11/08/2014 08:30

My 19 year old DD loves Frozen and would love a dress. The teenagers I teach, boys and girls, were constantly singing the songs. Personally I would find it odd if your DD wasn't keen on it, great film.

ilovepowerhoop · 11/08/2014 08:30

we took ds and dd to see Frozen - they are 10 and 7 and both enjoyed it

pictish · 11/08/2014 08:30

Total cow, yup.

I dunno...I think some parents are very taken by the notion that their children are 'very mature' as if that somehow makes them a better breed of child.

Childhood is so short - I'll be delighted if my kids are still dressing up and singing songs at 8! Whatever else ought they to be doing?

Stupid, rude bloody woman!

pourmeanotherglass · 11/08/2014 08:31

My 10 and 11 year olds are still singing the songs. I think lots of their friends are too.

WilburIsSomePig · 11/08/2014 08:31

I was a bit worried that I was a biy snippy and rude to her but now I wish I'd just told her to fuck off. She said in front of DD too.

I'm 25 and I like frozen and most other children's films too. I took ds to the cinema to watch how to train your dragon 2 because I couldn't wait to see it.

TrendStopper · 11/08/2014 08:31

I hate this so much. Why does everyone wants kids to grow up much quicker these day. When I was young we all played with dolls right into our teens (I am only in my 20s) but now everyone is into make up, phones, ipods at the age of 5.

baskingseals · 11/08/2014 08:32

Dd is word bloody perfect. She even does all the actions, she talks to the pictures, swings off furniture. I have sat through many a rendition.
She is 12.

TomatoSorbetWoman · 11/08/2014 08:32

Maybe it was her behaviour. Not the film

Surfermum23 · 11/08/2014 08:33

I watched it with my eleven year old niece who sang all of the songs all the way through! I'm pretty sure an 8 yr old is part of the target audience!

ouryve · 11/08/2014 08:33

Wow. Competitive parenting at it's nastiest. How bloody rude of her.

(Got boys. Never seen Frozen)

pictish · 11/08/2014 08:34

My 12-going-on-13 yr old son sings it too. Doesn't everyone?

WilburIsSomePig · 11/08/2014 08:34

I'm aware that this is a silly issue and I sound very PFB (even though she's not my FB Grin) but DD normally puts her dress on as soon as she gets up every morning kind of like a dressing gown before she gets properly dressed, but she didnt this morning.

I think being'young for their age' isn't a bad thing to be anyway. If my 10 and 11 year old can still play imagination games together in the school holidays, I think that's quite nice.

Cerisier · 11/08/2014 08:35

My DD15 is word perfect too!

Thebodyloveschocolateandwine · 11/08/2014 08:36

Ha ha ha.

My very grown up dds. 14/15 think full makeup, pierced belly buttons, big hair and sneaky spray tans adore adore Adore frozen.

Your neighbours a dick head.

I pity her 8 year old. You are never too old to build a bloody snow man!

MollySolverson · 11/08/2014 08:36

It is aimed directly at 8 year old girls, isn't it?! Both dd (3) and I (26) love the film! Rude woman.

QisforQcumber · 11/08/2014 08:36

My DS is 10 and likes Frozen, so do lots of his friends. They also like plotting to ambush Prince Hans with Nerf and talk wickedly about his demise by creepers/warfare/zombies and fire.

Let kids be kids. Smile

WilburIsSomePig · 11/08/2014 08:36

What do you mean Tomato? Do you mean the dressing up and singing and dancing?

OP posts:
Tryharder · 11/08/2014 08:36

This will make you feel better: both my boys are Frozen obsessed (aged 9 and 6), can quote entire scenes, know all the songs etc )

TomatoSorbetWoman · 11/08/2014 08:37

The dressing up all day sounds unusual at 8 to me.
