to think that my 8 year old is not 'young for her age' because she likes Frozen?

I think this is ridiculous. An acquaintance popped round to borrow something yesterday and commented thatcDD is 'very young for her age' because she was running around in her frozen dress (made by grandma and DD adores it), singing various songs?

She was actually quite rude about it, saying how her DD's were 'long past' that stage when they were 8. It's not important, I know, but she really pissed me off. I don't think she's too old for it at all and told her so. Cow.

That's a stupid comment, especially in front of the child in question!

I should hope an 8-yer-old would be young enough to enjoy Frozen. What's she supposed to be into, Nicki Minaj and slasher fan-fic?! Hmm

Thebodyloveschocolateandwine · 11/08/2014 08:38

Get yourself the dress too and next time the idiot pops around start singing the songs at the door.

You could change the first line to do you want to be a dick head, you don't have to be a dick head job done.

TheSameBoat · 11/08/2014 08:38

Oh please, I am mid 40s and liable to burst into "let it go" at any given moment ....

BitOutOfPractice · 11/08/2014 08:39

It doesn't to me tomato.

Esker · 11/08/2014 08:40

I work in a secondary school and kids of all ages and both genders love Frozen. As someone from the golden age of Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin, I am bemused by this, however I guess that goes to show that at 30, I must be 'young for my age' still liking Disney films!

Thebodyloveschocolateandwine · 11/08/2014 08:40

tomato what on earth do you mean?

My dds and dss loved dressing up and imagining games at 8! What's not to like.

pictish · 11/08/2014 08:41

Really tomato?
I didn't read it as she wore it 'all day' but even if she did...it's the summer holidays...so who cares?

Or is the aim to be 'usual' - whatever that is.

Eva50 · 11/08/2014 08:41

Ds3 (8) loves frozen and has watched it many times as do most of the children in his class at school. His brothers aged 18 & 16 have also watched it. Ds3 "grew out" of wearing princess dresses a couple of years ago because his peers laughed at him but still wears his buzz, woody and little bear costumes. The girls in his class are often wearing the princess dresses when I pickup from after school club. Having teenagers has really taught me how short childhood is. Treasure every moment and ignore banish your friend.

SoggyOldBiscuit · 11/08/2014 08:41

Your 'friend' sounds like she was being deliberately rude about your DD, rather than just making a comment. To say it in front of your DD is even worse. I think you would have been quite justified in telling the woman to fuck off - maybe not in front of your DD though, you could have just quietly hissed it under your breath Grin

Anyway, if given an option, I would rather have a child who is 'young for their age' in comparison to a child who is growing to too fast. Your DD sounds lovely.

Thebodyloveschocolateandwine · 11/08/2014 08:42

I am 50 and sing along with my teens.

My dss girlfriends, mid 20s, love the songs too.

Jees. Serious lives some people lead.

CornChips · 11/08/2014 08:43

I'm 40 and I am dressed up in an I Dream Of Jeannie costume. (well, harem pants anyway).

My DH is mad for Frozen and adores Shrek. I've stopped even bothering to take the latter out of the dvd player.

Your friend is a supercilious moron.

Greythorne · 11/08/2014 08:43

Are her kids in to BGT and One Direction?

TomatoSorbetWoman · 11/08/2014 08:44

I mean that. At 8 I think they have finished wearing fancy dress all day. They don't have to. It's just my experience.

funkybuddah · 11/08/2014 08:44

My almost 13yr old ds and his friends went to see it twice when it came out.

A few months ago I had a gaggle of pre teen boys on my doorstep singing let it go at the top of their voices. You have nothing to worry about.

WilburIsSomePig · 11/08/2014 08:44

Is dressing up unusual for an 8 year old Tomato? She puts her dress on in the morning for a bit before she gets properly dressed then she'll wear it if shes playing 'Frozen'. I don't find that odd for an 8 year old.

I'm 34 & still prefer cartoons to many 'grown up' films. When I left home there were serious negotiations with my mum concerning which Disney etc dvds we each wanted to keep.

sigh I want an Elsa dress now Sad

cosikitty · 11/08/2014 08:45

I would take it as a compliment.

My dd is just turned 9 and still plays with dolls and Sylvanian families, lego etc. She loved Frozen. Far better than my friend's dd who is a wannabe teen, wears only black and leopard print, wears heels, dangly earrings, and watches 15 rated films.

imip · 11/08/2014 08:45

I have a 7 yo (8 in nov), dressing up, for her and her friends, is still entirely normal... And long may it be so...

They still love one direction and sing all their songs . I also have a 6, 4, and 2 yo. They will keep dd1 younger, and I have not problem with that. Dd2, who is 2, loves singing Kate perry songs .

Dd1 has just finished reading clarice bean and now started secret seven. She still likes watching younger cartoons. She likes pitting on make-up .

All entirely appropriate op....

CornChips · 11/08/2014 08:45

I don't think it IS odd, Wilbur. At that age I was putting on my riding pants and riding cap and running around the house with a broomstick pretending it is a pony.

pictish · 11/08/2014 08:46

"but DD normally puts her dress on as soon as she gets up every morning kind of like a dressing gown before she gets properly dressed"

Sounds wholly age appropriate to me.

WilburIsSomePig · 11/08/2014 08:46

Where do I say that she wears fancy dress all day? And 'they don't have to'? They don't have to at any time they usually do it because they want to.

Idontseeanyicegiants · 11/08/2014 08:46

My 8 year old loves it too and regularly still gets the dressing up stuff out! Ignore your 'friend', it's perfectly natural for that age to like it! My 13 year old doesn't much like it neither do I really but he prefers Tangled Grin
I think it's more odd to suggest that someone who is still a child shouldn't like things that are made for children, since when is 8 too old for dressing up?

imip · 11/08/2014 08:46

Urgh...dd4 is 2, putting not pitting....

promisedyouarosegarden · 11/08/2014 08:47

I would have thought that 8 was the target age....quite sad if her children are long past that stage at 8. Hardly something to be proud of

TheWordFactory · 11/08/2014 08:47

What's wrong with being young at heart?

DD15 loves Frozen. I must admit, I think it's cool!
