Ungrateful Bastarding Bastards

OH belongs to an activity club.
They're having a Bar-B-Que tomorrow. (Ticketed to raise money)

I was asked last night at 17:30 if I could make a 'few' cakes as dessert…oh and there's 80 expected.

I have spent all day, got up at 6 on my day off, making cakes.

I've made Orange Chocolate Brownies, red Velvet cupcakes, old fashioned butterfly cakes and chocolate cornflake cakes for the little ones. At the minute in the oven are coffee and walnut cakes.

OH has been out doing activity since last night. Is currently helping set up for tomorrow.

Has just called to say not to bother with cakes as they've been to Costco and grabbed 4 of their big cakes…

So my AIBU
Am I being unreasonable to tell them all to fuck off and never ever bake for the bunch of thoughtless bastards ever again.

Am I being unreasonable to let rip on OH for not letting me know earlier? I mean I've spent all fucking day on this.

Am I being unreasonable to open the very posh expensive vodka?

Three hours to make all the cakes the OP described, Wibbly? Not all of us possess superhuman baking powers. Hmm And I have to ask myself what you hoped to achieve with your post except not-very-stealth boasting.

thenightsky · 09/08/2014 20:16

Costco cakes look nice... its style over substance though, in my opinion.

Sicaq · 09/08/2014 20:16

I would be livid, not just at the cost but at the utter waste of your time and energy.

Sadly I doubt care homes etc would be allowed to accept them - usual health and safety bollocks.

notagainffffffffs · 09/08/2014 20:16

Please OP come anf jo

Oh dear!come and join the elderly korean lady thread. Zen tranquillity and heart warming tales! It has chilled me right out.
Ps. Bring the cakes.ta.

AnnieLobeseder · 09/08/2014 20:18

I love cake. I love icing.

Costco cake is the only cake/icing I have ever found to be inedible.

OneSkinnyChip · 09/08/2014 20:18

I am drooling OP. Drooling.

They are twats. Never bake for them again. Enjoy your lovely cake :)

psych63 · 09/08/2014 20:19

open the vodka defo -dont share with oh and tell him he can get his own meals (from costco) for the next month

ICanSeeTheSun · 09/08/2014 20:20

I like costco cakes, but good homemade cupcakes are on another level.

Infact OP I think you should either share the recipe or make the UBB deliver them to those who are very much need of a cake fix.

My own personal Costco cake encounter happened on DH and his twin's 40th birthday. We were invited to a BBQ at BIL and SIL's house.

I made a lovely coffee and walnut cake and wrote both DH and BIL's names on it.

SIL dragged out a Costco monstrosity with just BIL's name on it.

That summed up the whole day.

meltedmonterayjack · 09/08/2014 20:22

YANBU. He needed to tell you first thing this morning about the Costco idea. You've spent the entire day making delicious sounding cakes that now aren't needed. Tell DH how inconsiderate and thoughtless that was. Then open the vodka. Grrrrrr

Selks · 09/08/2014 20:23

Op are you and your DP going to the event tomorrow?

Mildpanic · 09/08/2014 20:26

Wibbly, not really helpful.
Wellnow, I would be beyond livid. I also would be tempted to tell him to stick them where the sun don't shine.
Too cross to add anything else.

Wibblypiglikesbananas · 09/08/2014 20:27

charity and annie - no need to be so rude! And obviously there wouldn't have been time to bake all that in an hour - but that's not what I said!

I'm not a champion baker by any means, but there's no way on earth it would take a whole day to make what has been described. And I absolutely sympathise with the OP, nothing more frustrating than feeling effort is wasted or futile.

MerdeAlor · 09/08/2014 20:28

80 people? Just 4 Costco cakes? I know they're big but they wont stretch that far.
They'll still need your cakes although no one would blame you if you shove them up their arses instead.

FlossyMoo · 09/08/2014 20:29

Yes wibbly and I bet you shit glitter too Hmm

OP your cakes sound delicious and I am sorry this ungrateful bunch prefer shop bought rubbish Grin

I am however more than happy to PM my address if you need some help eating them Grin

ColdCottage · 09/08/2014 20:33

I would be fuming. Agree have a cake sale (if you are near any bars you will make a killing at kicking out time!) and buy yourself something nice with half the money and give the other half to charity (so your hard work still benefits someone as you had hoped).

Plus have him make it up to you.

HauntedNoddyCar · 09/08/2014 20:35

Would take me two days and a lot of swearing to get those cakes done.

Go and take your cakes. It'll be something for everyone to eat whilst they watch you and dh throw the Costco cakes at the miscreants in custard pie style.

JustSquirted · 09/08/2014 20:40

I'd take them over to the event anyway. And gloat when the Costco cakes are left sitting. And refuse to do any ever again.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 09/08/2014 21:02

Wibbly, maybe the OP oven doesn't fit that much in at a time?

Aeroflotgirl · 09/08/2014 21:08

Ya nbu, where are you so I can relieve you of your beautiful cakes Grin, caaaaaake caaaaaaake

WellnowImFucked · 09/08/2014 21:16

I have been placated by rather a lot of wine in a short time. Grin OH has a heavy pouring hand.

And the pizza is on the way.

One of the other partners has been on the phone, he's also a mate. He's of the fuck you opinion.

Not meaning to drip feed but about a quarter of what I've made is gluten free, there are 2 adult coeliac disease sufferers, and they prefer their kids to avoid gluten.

So I'm going to bring the gluten free stuff, not fair not too.

And me and friend are going to sit in a corner with the brownies and eat them all.....

Mahwaaaaa
Mahwaaaaa
(That's my evil laugh)

Glad your DH is as livid as you are, OP. I take it the Costco stuff was sprung on him as a done deal, so he had no warning, either.

I can only successfully fit one rack of cakes in my oven without it becoming a bit uneven. That many cakes probably would take me all day (and take me a week to recover from)
