I am not sure older women can do 'artfully dishevelled'

without just looking knackered.

I ove goldie hawn for so many things other than her looks although i love that she just keeps going. It really doesn't matter what age you are when you feel good. Oh CW I like her too I am doomed!

dexter73 · 06/08/2014 15:55

Winkleman?

noddyholder · 06/08/2014 16:01

I am out with 3 mates tonight .One media type only wears black can't convince her otherwise looks amazing in it though. Me classic what this thread is about I think Grin One makes Clare Underwood look scruffy! The other classic quirky kind of 50s style looks amazing. We are all different but I think all look good in our way and we know how to havea good time even if we are 45-50

DownByTheRiverside · 06/08/2014 16:03

I think I got Claudia Schiffer.

noddyholder · 06/08/2014 16:04

Claudia schiffer looks great

DownByTheRiverside · 06/08/2014 16:06

It's hard to look dishevelled with not many clothes on. Perhaps that's a look I should try, as it's a warm summer and I'm going through the hot flush menopause phase.

noddyholder · 06/08/2014 16:07
Grin
sweetnessandlite · 06/08/2014 16:34

*I am in my 50s- very fit, size 10. What I do notice amongst women in their 20s is the huge number that are very obese, many more than women of my generation.

Not easy to pull off any outfit if you are lugging an extra five stone around with you- despite the fact you are 25.*

I agree, but I think you have a death wish saying that on here!

SquinkiesRule · 06/08/2014 18:17

I'm old, now I'm 52. I try hard not to look disheveled but it's a look that seems to come naturally to me, nothing artful about my look, more shabby aging hippy than anything else. sadly Sad
I can't pull off classy, chic, smart, or smart casual. I just look a wreck! Hate makeup too that doesn't help and my hair is a mass of curls so that never looks "done"

SquinkiesRule · 06/08/2014 18:18

Oh and I'm not overweight so thats not the problem, I'm a fit size 8 petit.

WitchWay · 06/08/2014 19:02

I'm 49 & not naturally smart - still in the tight jeans & shirts & high heels or floaty skirts & camisoles I wore in my 20s (not the actual ones, natch, although I still have a 1986 pair of jeans Grin ) Always dangly earrings.

For work I wear loose trousers & drapy tops or wrap dresses or longish tunics with boots. Anything smarter or more structured just doesn't look like me

I'm the same size as in my 20s (8-10) but definitely better toned these days.

I think my hair looks better slightly tousled than too smooth or straightened or even blow-dried. Shoulder-length & slightly wavy, no fringe. Perhaps I'm kidding myself Grin

sweetnessandlite · 06/08/2014 21:10

WitchWay, tight jeans always look more flattering than jeans that are too loose - at any age.
Loose jeans that don't fit snuggly always look like mom jeans

elQuintoConyo · 06/08/2014 21:20

Because looking like a mom is the worst thing?

What my clothes say about me:

Woman
Wife
Mother
Teacher
Skint
Fashionless
Quirky
Mismatched
A bit last year (when last year was 1992)
(= in no particular order).

I hate looking like a clone, always have. DM boots and a tutu? Do fuck off. I'll wear them in place of mum boots Shock with whatever matches tjeir 1988 faded cherry-redness Grin

If I described what I wore today, you'd probably laugh until your sphincter strangled you, OP. i was wearing DH's arse as a hat

sweetnessandlite · 06/08/2014 21:49

I love being a 'mom',
but would rather die than wear mom jeans Grin

sweetnessandlite · 06/08/2014 21:52

noddyholder,
how amazing does Claudia Sdhiffer look? but very high maintenance

Oh to have the money. Envy

PhaedraIsMyName · 06/08/2014 21:55

Kate moss usually looks like dragged through a hedge but people love the way she looks

I don't. I've never seen a photograph of her and thought she was attractive.

MollyBdenum · 06/08/2014 22:28

I thought that mom that mom jeans were the new boyfriend jeans.

WitchWay · 06/08/2014 22:35

Phaedra Grin agree she's a bit ugly Grin

elQuintoConyo · 06/08/2014 23:34

I'm waiting for FIL jeans MollyBdenum

Or would they be charmingly marketed as FILF? (Father In Law i'd like to ... etc, you get the drift).

Why aren't boyfriend jeans just called 'comfy jeans'? Just like manbags should be called girlfriends bag Will IT Boys be seen wearing manbags named The George (Clooney) or The Grant (Mitchell or Cary, you choose!)?

Rocktheboat73 · 07/08/2014 08:01

I can tell you in the flesh Chrissie Hynde does NOT look like she does on that website, honesttogod no way. in real life she looks like a woman in her 60's and her skin looks like a woman who has lived recklessly, smoked and drank alcohol! not that there is anything wrong with that, fair play to her I say.

SignYourName · 07/08/2014 08:25

I couldn't pull off "artfully dishevelled" when I was 17, never mind now.

I'm fucking excellent at the "mad cat lady caught in a freak tornado in the middle of Oxfam" look though.

Floisme · 07/08/2014 13:52

I agree Rocktheboat - good for Chrissie Hynde. I admire any woman in the public eye who's not afraid to look her age.

Speaking of dishevelled, I saw Patti Smith in real life a couple of years ago. She looked every day of her 60-odd years and also - in my opinion - fantastic, loads better than she does in photos. She had this kind of spirit about her that the camera didn't catch at all.

mignonette · 07/08/2014 14:32

I regularly see La Schiffer in the flesh. She looks very different to her photos.

noddyholder · 07/08/2014 14:32

She has a fantastic figure

merce · 07/08/2014 14:34

Different as in worse/more 'ordinary'?
