I wear glasses and just recently my prescription has changed so I need more expensive lenses. Dh moaned as these glasses cost £250. So as I also needed sunglasses I agreed that some of my birthday money could be put towards sunglasses. (Ie moey mil was giving me). Instead he decided that he would give me an iou for sunglasses but I couldn't spend more than £100. This is ampl e as I planned to get single vision ones.
However, for his birthday he received treat items from everyone.
Now he needs glasses. We had a discussion in store as to whether he should get the cheap £69 ones or go designer. I basically said cheap ones. (as they were good enough for my birthday present)
This unlike me. Normally I rarely makes a fuss when he is extravagant. He earns good money.But tbh I am pissed off.
He is always moaning that we spend too much but as soon as he need something these rules no longer apply

FIL always has her get her hair done at supercuts, won't take her out for meals, makes her buy supermarket own brand stuff, buy the specsavers own brand glasses and complains they're skint, then buys himself £80 luxury gym memberships, Armani glasses, £200 suits and goes out drinking with his friends. He earns loads so I wondered where his money went to make them have to cut back- there's my answer!

They were essential last monththough when he needed a pair.

Ok his pair were chain store not prescription ones but even so.

I suppose he views himself as more important than you. Some people spend lots of themselves and a little on others, some people spend little on themselves and lots on others. That's the way it is.

Next time you want something go for what you want even if it isn't the more expensive option. Its what he seems to do most of the time.

I think I am just sick of being last. He seems happy to treat himself and the kids.
But when I want to spend on myself which is outside usual expenditure he doesn't like it or says we can't afford it.

My current varifocals (from Tesco - outstanding top of the range) were £370. Nobody should have to scrimp in order to be able to see in the best way possible for them (altho specs are outrageously expensive, it has to be said).

DH is the sole earner and he'd never question what I spend on glasses (or contacts occasionally). They are just an essential household item, like dentists bills and clothes.

(Actually it's me who resents dentist bills and declines to pay to have my teeth polished.)

You both get cheap glasses or you both get designer. Simple as that.

My last pair from my local optometrist were £200. £160 for my prescription lenses and £40 for the frames because they were in the sale.

I got half the cost back from the house insurance because they were replacement frames for the pair I broke.

I actually preferred a different pair, which were about £240, but the chap in the shop talked me into this pair. I wish I'd thought of the insurance when I was choosing them, I could have had the other pair that I preferred.

Never buy prescription glasses on the high street, bloody rip off! I've just bought some lovely ray ban specs for £80 online, even tesco wanted £180 for them!

I choose my sunglasses. I didn't actually like the dearer ones. I think I was just pissed off that he used me needing them as an excuse not buy me a birthday gift. Not about the money as I can buy what I like. It just the complete total lack of thought.
Also strange how sunglasses aren't essential yet he has just recently got himself some.

Intrigued by direct options. Just abit worried about getting measurements right etc.

If you have had fitted glasses, the measurements are usually printed on them IIRC.

I got 3 pairs from glasses direct, and I have astigmatism; and got the lot for less than £60 delivered.

At £6 a pop I thought it would be worth a go. Had 4 pairs off them now and all been fine. They give you instructions on how to measure.

The only problem with ordering online is that it depends on how bad your eyesight is...My friend gets hers from Glasses Direct and thoroughly recommended them - but when I tried to order mine, they wouldn't do it as my glasses prescription is -7 in one eye, -8 in the other. -8 is their cut off apparently. I was gutted! They're so much cheaper than the high street but i have no other choice unfortunately
