YANBU

There is a discussion to be had because it is complex issue but all the 'how did we get so fat'? questions are just to have a dig rather than a proper discussion.

And if you have only just notice where the hell have you been for the last 10 yrs?

gymboywalton · 24/07/2014 15:37

just me then?

gymboywalton · 24/07/2014 15:37

Agree with you. There are so few sectors of society that the smug and bullies can attack without being shot down in flames. You can bet your life that they would not walk into a room full of people of mixed weights and dare to come out with some of the ops they do on here...

BigBoobiedBertha · 24/07/2014 15:44

My last sentence wasn't aimed at you btw but at the people who are upset or 'distraught' (to use the word on another thread I just posted on).

Sorry, just read it again and it sounded like I was wondering why you only just notice all the fat bashing threads rather at them for wondering where all the fat people come from. Smile

gamerchick · 24/07/2014 15:48

I tell you I'm sure it's deliberate. A clump of different threads in different scenarios on one topic to get your different types of answers. Like an experiment or something.

TurboWithAKick · 24/07/2014 15:51

Adult fat bashing is not on, I agree

But it's true that childhood obesity is becoming a crisis, now THAT is something we shouldn't be hiding and we need to act on

Does anyone disagree?

TurboWithAKick · 24/07/2014 15:52

There's a thread ATM about the beach.... Seems like it's being deliberately provocative to me. Not sure if it's in chat or aibu

serendippity · 24/07/2014 15:56

Don't agree with adult bashing either particularly when it is stupidly ignorant and insulting posts or threads.
Totally agree Turbo and yes, I realize some children have health problems etc that can contribute to weight gain and I have no judgment. Some children tho are just overweight, I see them at dd's school and it saddens and frightens me.
This is coming from someone who in no way is a waif, but my kids are whippets...I eat crap when they are not around Grin

TheReluctantCountess · 24/07/2014 15:57

I agree with you. MNHQ should get rid of the threads.

TurboWithAKick · 24/07/2014 15:59

Someone posted some stats about yr 6 children on another thread. It was disturbing. I find myself looking more closely at children as I didn't believe it when I read about childhood obesity. Sadly, I'm seeing it IS true.

Namechangearoonie123 · 24/07/2014 16:00

Yes, there should be a topic labelled the 'Obesity Crisis' so that all the people who pretend they care about health but secretly loathe the overweight can fuck off there.

Put it in site stuff.

Montegomongoose · 24/07/2014 16:01

But it's true that childhood obesity is becoming a crisis, now THAT is something we shouldn't be hiding and we need to act on

I absolutely agree.

We are doing children a terrible disservice if we allow them to grow up with health ptoblems as well as pretending that it is ok to be obese.

I abd

Selks · 24/07/2014 16:02

It is the new way to troll, imo.

Montegomongoose · 24/07/2014 16:04

Fat fingers, oops.

I abhor the idea of shaming children but we really are living in a fool's paradise by not addressing the issue.

Sadly, in my experience, obese parents are not always in a good place and able to model healthy behaviour to their DC.

ExcuseTypos · 24/07/2014 16:05

If another one pops up, I vote we go on the thread and just post

FAT FAT THIN THIN FAT

THIN FAT THIN FAT FAT

That would bore them to death and they might stopGrin

BigBoobiedBertha · 24/07/2014 16:05

I don't believe anybody thinks it is OK for society that there are so many obese people, especially children but the fat bashing threads are having a go at individuals, like fat people on the beach in the latest one. They aren't about having a reasonable discussion on relevant research on what can be done but having a dig at individuals, none of whom are in a position to explain why they are obese and whether they are doing anything about it. It is just mocking.

TurboWithAKick · 24/07/2014 16:06

I don't think it's all trolling.... You can easily tell the difference, same as any other troll thread

GoshAnneGorilla · 24/07/2014 16:07

YESSSSS!!!!! YANBU!!!

"Yes, there should be a topic labelled the 'Obesity Crisis' so that all the people who pretend they care about health but secretly loathe the overweight can fuck off there.

^^Yes Namechange, I agree totally.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 24/07/2014 16:09

Yanbu. I reported one the other day. It was deleted because it was started by a pbp.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 24/07/2014 16:16

YANBU
The only thread I want in this subject is a MN campaign for every council in Britain to be forced to provide, non competitive, swimming, trampolining, badminton and other sports clubs for 10-18y.

Not all DCs have friends to go swimming with, or to hire a badminton court with or the money to do so.

DD1 would love to swim or play badminton where there was company and partners and some organisation to stop it being boring.

100% serious competitive or totally reliant on a like minded friend and the motivation to organise it is a recipe for in activity.

TurboWithAKick · 24/07/2014 16:18

I'd support that elephant

BumpNGrind · 24/07/2014 16:18

YABU, I think we should be able to openly discuss the obesity crisis in a constructive way. Hide the thread if you want to, but I don't want to see censorship of this topic. Fat bashing is horrible, wrong and shouldn't be allowed, but to completely move these kinds of threads is a head in the sand approach.

We do actually need to look at why people are bigger. I saw my df die one Sunday morning, completely out of the blue from a condition linked to his weight, even though he was an active man with no other health complaints. To stop conversations about weight and obesity is refusing to listen to the overwhelming evidence that it's just not healthy to be obese.

Uptheairymountain · 24/07/2014 16:38

Oh, YANBU!

I don't give a stuff about anyone else's size and I couldn't care less about what anyone else eats, as long as it's not my star bar.

I hate the competitive non-eating threads as well, where most of the posters can't eat a whole weetabix. Well I'm size 10-12 and I need 2 of them in whole milk, plus nuts, dried fruit, dates, apricots, seeds, a banana and an apple for breakfast. And then I need loads more food during the rest of the day as well.

Shonajay · 24/07/2014 16:39

I'm overweight due to steroid use during cancer treatment, but it's coming off slowly. I don't get at all offended by people talking about obesity to be honest, because I know I'm working on my weight. I think people who aren't, get very touchy, because they continue to make poor food choices and it angers me as children follow by example. I feel, the same way about heavy drinkers, and people smoking in front of children.

It's also costing the health service millions, at least smokers pay their way via fag tax. Why should kids be waiting for operations because hospitals are buying baristric ambulances? It's simple, eat less, move more. And if you don't agree why does stomach stapling work. I was at hospital for a check up today and saw a woman of a similar age to me (46) probably about thirty stone, have to stop every couple of steps to catch her breath, pouring with sweat. My 20 year old nursing student daughter has to help move obese patients, and clean shit off their arses because they can't reach. Why should someone have to do that?
