To think that at a buffet you can take as much as you want

Went out today with dsis. We were starving by lunchtime and there was a huge buffet where we went (hotel), it was included in the price so we took loads as were hungry.
Noticed a couple of women really staring as we loaded our plates up and also when we took lots of the mini desserts and as we walked past one loudly said " I can't believe they are actually going to eat all that"
They kept staring at us and giving us funny looks.

Made me wonder if we really did take too much, surely as we had paid and were hungry it was ok ? I felt a bit judged as they clearly thought we were greedy

Can you quote me where I am defending spitefulness?

NickiFury · 21/07/2014 14:11

First you searched for me now you're just copying everything I say! I don't know whether to be flattered or scared Grin. Can you not formulate an argument of your own?

Goldenyellow · 21/07/2014 14:13

Looking for answers - your questions don't make any sense.

I don't think they make any sense to you either as you keep asking them but are unable to answer your own

NickiFury · 21/07/2014 14:20

Ok I will be as clear as I can be for you, hopefully that will help things along.

I think you've been spiteful on this thread. Having done a search on YOU I see you're a big, brave name changer, with issues around food and weight as they're pretty much the only threads you've been on.

Get some help with that, stop offloading your unhealthy attitudes onto other posters, especially those with really tough back stories of which you know nothing.

In short stop being a spiteful bully in AIBU.

Now I will do what I always do with pointless exchanges that are going nowhere and leave them alone.

firesidechat · 21/07/2014 14:24

The only really massive unreasonableness was eating 6 slices of bread. Bread is cheap and bulky and fills you up. I wouldn't waste that much bulk on boring old bread and would have eaten more of the nice things.

We very occasionally go to an all you can eat Indian/Chinese buffet and I suppose we do have a vague system. Go for a small plate with a few starter type things on and eat those, then go up for a second plate of a few Indian things, then Chinese stuff, then maybe puddings. I think the puddings at these places are pretty grim, so I don't usually bother.

That way you get to try lots of different things, don't have heaps of food on one plate, don't overeat too much, have a good chance of finishing those plates without a ton of leftovers and walk off a few calories on the trek to the counters. Works for me Grin.

It's not the overeating at these places that get to me (I assume it's a once in a blue moon kind of indulgence), it's the waste of food. Seeing mounds of food on umpteen plates in front of diners who have no hope or even intention to finish them isn't pretty.

Goldenyellow · 21/07/2014 14:28

Wow that is quite a summary

Water off a ducks back Grin

Cant be bothered writing a post about what I think about you and what your issues are

Yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

firesidechat · 21/07/2014 14:28

Oh, I didn't realise that this thread may have got "difficult". Wish I hadn't posted now.

LightastheBreeze · 21/07/2014 14:29

It sounds like OP has a fairly normal diet, obviously doesn't have to worry about her weight and took full advantage of what sounds like a rather delicious buffet which was on offer.

As long as it was eaten and not left wasted on the plate, I don't see anything wrong with what she ate - though I wouldn't have bothered with so much bread, though it may have been warm and crusty - yum.

Glad you enjoyed it OP it sounds very yummy.

Goldenyellow · 21/07/2014 14:31

From what hedgehog has said, she was not wasteful - she devoured all the plates of food

firesidechat · 21/07/2014 14:49

Just to make it clear, I wasn't commenting on the OP's portion control or wastefulness. I was making a general point about all you can eat buffets.

As for those saying that the OP will become enormously fat and bitterly regret her obvious gluttony (paraphrasing slightly), my husband has been told his entire life that he is doomed to get fat eventually and he is still very slim. One of my grown up children probably eats an average amount of food and is tiny, the other eats a lot of food and is also very slim. I'm fat Sad. Some people do indeed seem to burn off calories more than the rest of us.

Goldenyellow · 21/07/2014 15:09

People have just said metabolism can change, bodies can change nobody is saying she will definitively be enormously fat

settingsitting · 21/07/2014 15:17

This is the encouraging overeating thread.

Bogeyface · 21/07/2014 15:22

This is the encouraging overeating thread.

Just when you think you have seen it all!

Yes dear, on the back of this thread alone hundreds of women all over the country are eating until they vomit. Thats the power of MN! Hmm

settingsitting · 21/07/2014 15:27

Reminds me of the 48 creme egg thread.

OnlyTheWelshCanCwtch · 21/07/2014 15:34

If its an all you can eat buffet then op did nothing wrong- she at least ate it all!
I'm a pig when it comes to buffet food, its my absolute favourite- and if prawns and smoked salmon were included I the spread I would quite happily take the whole platter!
I don't see the problem!

OnlyTheWelshCanCwtch · 21/07/2014 15:36

And yeah, agree with the 6 slices of bread- that stomach room could have been used for something else!! (Unless it was French stick, with pate, then 6 slices is ok)

ICanSeeTheSun · 21/07/2014 15:57

I'm a greedy person when it comes to buffet food, it's not like I eat like that every day.

The only thing I hate is huge wastage at buffets, where people pile plates up so high and can't eat it all.

LightastheBreeze · 21/07/2014 16:21

The people staring were probably looking on enviously and wondering where you were going to put it all.

Often the ones that judge at buffets are those that have to watch every calorie, the rest are to busy filling their plates also.

ElephantGoesToot · 21/07/2014 16:23

You seem to eat huge amounts, frequently. That's not healthy.

This is not yours to say, HercShipwright. People are all different. What she eats, and how much, seems to work fine for her.
I'm more concerned about your obsession with eating tiny amounts of exactly the correct food, it sounds orthorexic, and your being vegan lines up with that pretty well.
You don't get to say what the right amount of food for other people is, because you have no idea.

2rebecca · 21/07/2014 16:28

Why get it all at once? Why not get starter stuff first then go back for main course then dessert? It seems greedy to just pile everything on as though you are terrified they'll run out, and that is a huge amount of food.

MaidOfStars · 21/07/2014 16:50

I don't see where the OP said it was an all you can eat deal? I got the impression the hotel had laid out a big yet finite buffet for all the people doing whatever the OP was doing.

Hence my pondering about whether the OP feels that had everyone taken what she did, there may not have been enough to go around because the hotel won't have banked on four creme brulees per person

OP, can you clarify? Although not sure you are still here wouldn't blame you after all the mid-thread schadenfreude.

ChickenFajitaAndNachos · 21/07/2014 16:51

I love a good old buffet blow out myself. I thought that was the whole point of an all you can eat buffet. I wouldnt bother getting a smallish starter, then back up again for a smallish main course and then back up again for a pudding. If I want smaller portions and a more relaxed meal I book an A La Carte restaurant

MaidOfStars · 21/07/2014 16:54

I thought that was the whole point of an all you can eat buffet
It may well be, but can you show me where the OP said it was an all you can eat buffet? I'm not sure if I missed something.

ChickenFajitaAndNachos · 21/07/2014 17:01

Can you show me where it says you can't? I'm not sure if I missed something.

LightastheBreeze · 21/07/2014 17:17

This was a hotel though not some small private party where the host gets a certain amount of food, these hotels usually just keep wheeling stuff out. Its a bit like buffet breakfasts on holiday, the food doesn't run out just because someone has took four of a certain type of thing. I'm sure the were others there who had the same or more than Hedgehog
