Sainsbury's cafe

Was out shopping today with DD at our local Sainsbury's when decided we would have some lunch in the cafe. I ordered my DD who is only 11months old some toast to munch on. The lady rudely told me that breakfast had stopped at 11.30 and as it was now 1pm they couldn't do toast. I calmly explained that it was for my dd. She point blank refused, and when I ask why she said it was company policy. I was fuming that they couldn't put some toast in...it wasn't like I was asking for a bacon cob!!! We left and went to morrisons where they happily provided DD with some toast. Would it be ok to ring and complain. Still mad now!

Very funny op. You are being unreasonable.

The thing is though if she really couldn't make toast for the OP she could have just explained nicely why she couldn't do that. Instead the lady was rude to the OP when she only wanted some toast.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 15/07/2014 18:21

This reminds me of the woman I saw in sainsburys cafe once who demanded they heat something up for her daughter she had bought as her DD didn't like anything off the menu.

Strangely enough they refused! The women couldn't understand why and spent ages arguing with the staff.

undertheduvet · 15/07/2014 18:22

They'll have one of those catering toasters that yhe bread goes round on a conveyor belt type thing. They take bloody ages to heat up so once its turned off after breakfast service is finished they wont want the faff on turning it bavk on and waiting 30 mins for it to heat up again. Would you be willing to wait that long for one piece of toast op?

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 15/07/2014 18:22

YA all BU for going to supermarket cafes regardless. Why oh why prolong the time you have to spend in those hell pits? Get in, get out, don't get hurt.

Floggingmolly · 15/07/2014 18:22

What, Havant?? Shock. John Lewis give who free coffee and cake?

TaraKnowles · 15/07/2014 18:24

YANBU to have asked, but YWBU to complain.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 15/07/2014 18:24

I've just got my john Lewis card and vouchers for free tea and cake!

maras2 · 15/07/2014 18:25

What's a bacon cob?

Cruikshank · 15/07/2014 18:26

You should have got all Michael Douglas from Falling Down on her ass. She's probably a Commie anyway.

arethereanyleftatall · 15/07/2014 18:27

That was it mrs teapot. I've just enjoyed reading that back. See it got deleted for being a zombie thread....

Theas18 · 15/07/2014 18:27

I think the point is being missed. Sainsbos will not do just toast at lunchtime to stop people taking the P and nursing 1 slice of toast for hours over peak food selling time.

Timeforabiscuit · 15/07/2014 18:28

Would the UK be a better place with toast more freely available in a cafe setting?

I believe it would.

I also believe this platform would make me one of the stronger candidates for the general election.

Timeforabiscuit · 15/07/2014 18:30

A bacon cob, is a huge hard baked roll with bacon inside. It generally takes a morning to work your way through it.

Billygoats · 15/07/2014 18:31

I agree the toaster will be one of the industrial style ones that take ages to warm up (and then burn the bloody roast anyway).

You are being silly OP. feed your dc something else, at 11months they can't only be eating toast.

I doubt they were as rude as you make out, you were just annoyed they said no.

Gileswithachainsaw · 15/07/2014 18:31

If it's a cafe, surely they'd do beans on toast?

Scrambled egg on toast?

Cheese toasties?

Paninis?

Bagels?

All of which are erm, toasted and so toaster would be on surely?

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 15/07/2014 18:32

timeforabiscuit don't forget the proper tea in a proper tea pot!

scottishmummy · 15/07/2014 18:33

Cant see why you're mad,its minor inconvenience
I wouldn't complain, too much arse ache fir a minor issue

starfishmummy · 15/07/2014 18:38

It does seem very "jobsworth".

But I have stopped using sainsburys cafe since the assistant decided it was acceptable to pass milk jugs to customers by sticking her fingers inside them. Fingers which she was using to handle money.

scottishmummy · 15/07/2014 18:39

Oh not not the money fingers...ta da dah

MrsBellTeapot · 15/07/2014 18:39

eww that sounds icky.

littlejohnnydory · 15/07/2014 18:43

Wouldn't have killed them but YABU - at 11 months she can eat anything a grown up can eat! If she hasn't got a big appetite, she could have shared what you were having?

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 15/07/2014 18:46

Order beans on toast/cheese on toast/egg on toast without the beans/cheese/egg.

I remember a lady having this very problem at a Little Chef (so a few years ago) - she was allowed to order marmite soldiers from the children's menu, without the marmite, but couldn't order toast from the breakfast menu.

Made the local news it did.

FunLovinBunster · 15/07/2014 18:47

YANBU
It's toast for fucks sake. They could have made it in the panini machine.
No need to be unpleasant to the OP. but hey, this is MN and if the crowd s baying for blood....
