Sainsbury's cafe

Was out shopping today with DD at our local Sainsbury's when decided we would have some lunch in the cafe. I ordered my DD who is only 11months old some toast to munch on. The lady rudely told me that breakfast had stopped at 11.30 and as it was now 1pm they couldn't do toast. I calmly explained that it was for my dd. She point blank refused, and when I ask why she said it was company policy. I was fuming that they couldn't put some toast in...it wasn't like I was asking for a bacon cob!!! We left and went to morrisons where they happily provided DD with some toast. Would it be ok to ring and complain. Still mad now!

That should have been of course yabu

Timeforabiscuit · 15/07/2014 17:53

What's ASDAs position on the whole breakfast/toast/teapot combo?

Surely if you can walk about in a onesie in store, all bets regarding finish time for breakfast are off?

Damnautocorrect · 15/07/2014 17:54

I think the childrens sainsburys menu is quite good, half a jacket spud. Perfect for little appetites

Oh ywbu

HavantGuard · 15/07/2014 17:54

For sweet stuff you need the Tesco finest triple chocolate shortbread. Mmmmmmmmmmmm.

I use the cafe to avoid cooking breakfasts. I have never tried the cakes. The massive, filled, baked potatoes look nice.

MrsBellTeapot · 15/07/2014 17:56

Don't understand why you're even surprised - this is Britain! People just don't do flexibility or rule bending, regardless of how little the baby is or any other circumstances.

Exactly. Customer service in this country is appalling and we just put up with it. More people should speak out IMO.

Hairylegs47 · 15/07/2014 17:57

I know I'm in the minority, but I don't think YANBU at all.
Yes, I've worked in cafés and restaurants, I know what it's like. But if they didn't have the toaster out, then they should've explained this to you instead of going with 'policy'.
You voted with your feet and will prob never go back there either. If you think it's worth a letter/email then do it, but it don't expect it'll change anything.
I've asked for items that were breakfast items after breakfast and the only 1 that didn't serve me was McDs. It was 10.25, but they had no bacon or sausages left, if I waited 5 mins I could have bacon on a chicken sandwich. He told me this while folk at the next till were ordering - and getting - bacon, sausage etc.

gordyslovesheep · 15/07/2014 18:00

i don't get why they should make exceptions for a child though - why? surely they served lots of other things the child could eat

I feel the OP is looking to have a Cedar Fallsesque strop Grin

buy a banana - much better than toast

Deverethemuzzler · 15/07/2014 18:04

You lucky, lucky bastard!

You got served????

In my Sainsbury's cafe they are all utterly delightful but
your chances of ending up with any actual food in front of you are minimal. They have a tendency to just sort of forget.

BigfootFiles · 15/07/2014 18:04

OP, are you Michael Douglas?

MrsBellTeapot · 15/07/2014 18:05

gordy because it's the nice thing to do.

OwlCapone · 15/07/2014 18:05

It's nice to give me free cake and coffee too.

Anarchy99 · 15/07/2014 18:06

Surely its the "nice thing to do" for anyone though.

I don't see why they should make an exception specifically for a child, as opposed to anyone else.

arethereanyleftatall · 15/07/2014 18:07

Yabu.
But....there was an identical thread on mn about a year ago and everyone said yanbu, it's only toast. I then had the temerity to say yabu, and got flamed for it! I don't get mn!

Anarchy99 · 15/07/2014 18:07

Owl You beat me to it! Grin

gordyslovesheep · 15/07/2014 18:08

so they weren't nice - no one died and the child didn't suffer toast withdrawal - no need to get so stressy about it

It's one of those 'I have a child let's look for something to be entitled/offended about' threads - so last year

but YES to free cake and coffee!

MrsBellTeapot · 15/07/2014 18:09

No it's not worth getting stressed about. I just think it would have been nice of them to make the OP some toast. Not the end of the world though.

gordyslovesheep · 15/07/2014 18:09

there was an identical thread on mn about a year ago and everyone said yanbu ...everyone??? in the world? even me?

MN is a large forum - depending on the date/time/day of posting you will get different people on line ergo differing opinions - not sure why that's baffling

MrsBellTeapot · 15/07/2014 18:09

just a thought but do sainsbury's cafe not do kids meals?

Picklepest · 15/07/2014 18:10

You should meet up with the poster shocked that tea wasn't in a tea pot but (horrors) just a cup!

YouTheCat · 15/07/2014 18:11

But what if, as a previous poster said, their massive industrial toaster was in bits being cleaned ready for the next day?

Should they put it all back together just for one pfb?

Anarchy99 · 15/07/2014 18:11

Pickle That would be MrsBell who has posted above you!

Grin Grin

MrsBellTeapot · 15/07/2014 18:12

Was that this thread because that actually seems to have an equal split of YABU/YANBU. Haven't really read that thread though.

HavantGuard · 15/07/2014 18:13

John Lewis give you free coffee and cake once a month.

MrsBellTeapot · 15/07/2014 18:14

You should meet up with the poster shocked that tea wasn't in a tea pot but (horrors) just a cup!

That was me and no it's not horrifying, I just think it's nice to have tea in a teapot in a cafe.

Anarchy99 · 15/07/2014 18:15

Havant Is that only if you are able to go to the toilet without your child getting his head stuck behind the dryer though? Grin
