Sainsbury's cafe

Was out shopping today with DD at our local Sainsbury's when decided we would have some lunch in the cafe. I ordered my DD who is only 11months old some toast to munch on. The lady rudely told me that breakfast had stopped at 11.30 and as it was now 1pm they couldn't do toast. I calmly explained that it was for my dd. She point blank refused, and when I ask why she said it was company policy. I was fuming that they couldn't put some toast in...it wasn't like I was asking for a bacon cob!!! We left and went to morrisons where they happily provided DD with some toast. Would it be ok to ring and complain. Still mad now!

Yabu

Where would the line be drawn? 'Oh go on do us some beans with it'

Thy may have cleaned and switched off the toaster

You should choose off the current menu at that time

MrsBellTeapot · 15/07/2014 18:53

could they not have done toast on the grill?

TheFairyCaravan · 15/07/2014 18:54

Oh FGS! Since when has the world had to revolve around people who don't want to abide by rules, policies, T&Cs?

If you're so frickin precious about what you and your kids eat and at what time, then eat at bloody home!

Oh pipe down what a disproportionate response fairy
She accepted the response and went elsewhere
Op Didn't throw herself and child prostrate on floor, wailing

arethereanyleftatall · 15/07/2014 19:02

Op hadn't been back.

TheFairyCaravan · 15/07/2014 19:02

It's not the OP, scottishmummy. I answered her original post way up there!^^^

It's all the it's "only toast" " the uk is awful for customer service" etc, etc. it's wheeled out over and over again. People want exceptions made all the time, and can seldom accept being told no!

scottishmummy · 15/07/2014 19:06

If a menu us time restricted, thats how it goes

TheFairyCaravan · 15/07/2014 19:07

Exactly, SM!

Picklepest · 15/07/2014 19:07

Mrsbellteapot, but I thought you said you went to sainsburys? Different ideas on which cafés might offer teapots! I'd rather have the cup than those manky metal things!

scottishmummy · 15/07/2014 19:09

Many establishments serve by time defined menus, its not uncommon to cease serve b'fast then lunch
I wouldn't complain,1 and half hours after breakfast,is arriving late

Gileswithachainsaw · 15/07/2014 19:11

But is toast on the menu for lunch I any form?

Because if they do beans on toast for lunch menu then plain toast should have been allowed

TheFairyCaravan · 15/07/2014 19:20

Sainsburys cafe menu. It doesn't look like they do toast with anything on at lunchtime.

Gileswithachainsaw · 15/07/2014 19:25

Cheese and ham toastie on kids menu.

What's the mega brunch

Monstermissy36 · 15/07/2014 19:32

This reminds me if Michael Douglas in 'Falling Down' we all know how that ended up!! Wink

I used to work at a sainsburys cafe and I would of stuck you some toast in no problem. Smile

Monstermissy36 · 15/07/2014 19:33

Ahh I see I'm late with my Michael Douglas ref - great film tho Smile

wheresthelight · 15/07/2014 19:34

timeforabiscuit you really are an incredibly rude and ignorant individual. There is no need to be so utterly vile just because I offer an opinion and suggestion that differs from your own

SiennaBlake · 15/07/2014 19:53

Toastie won't be toast. Will be done as a toastie.

Gileswithachainsaw · 15/07/2014 19:57

What like bread under a grill?

SiennaBlake · 15/07/2014 19:59

No, like bread on a griddle. Similar to when you use a toastie maker.

Oldraver · 15/07/2014 20:01

You shouls of ordered the All Day Breakfast...it (used to) come with toast and oddly chips. When DS was very little he didn't eat a lot at lunch time to warrant a whole meal for him so he would have my sausage and chis from the breakfast

Cruikshank · 15/07/2014 20:10

I just think it's nice to have tea in a teapot in a cafe.

I agree with you on that one. I think it's pretty bad to charge people £2 for mug of water with a teabag in it especially when there is only one of those crappy little stirrer things to squash it with. Forch I have found a cafe that serves tea not only in pots, but it's loose-leaf tea, and they give you a strainer as well WITH a strainer-holder. It's just all so civilised!

AlexandraPeppernose · 15/07/2014 20:13

The toaster gets turned off at 11.30. You can still have bread and butter or a roll and butter. Or a ham and cheese toastie from the kids lunch bag which is toasted in the panini press.

The toast prep area (industrial so comes flying out the bottom) is generally used for salad prep after 11.30. If kept on I'd say they'd get more complaints about crumbs in salad that not providing toast.

cardibach · 15/07/2014 20:16

I think the OP IBU to use the phrase 'to munch on'. I hate it - also 'chomp on/through', 'chow down' etc etc. Why can't her PFB just bloody eat the toast (assuming someone is able to toast it for her) or, I don't know, a slice of bread, perhaps?
