To want to set the record straight about the Cedar Falls Nurse In

Mamagiraffe · 14/07/2014 13:27

I am organising the peaceful protest OUTSIDE THE GATES of Cedar Falls. The protest is not taking place because Victoria tried to take an under 16 to an age-restricted place expecting special treatment it is because the spa have cancelled her booking rather than allowing her to make alternative arrangements. Whatever has happened in the past is immaterial and I am horrified by the muck-raking and bullying instigated here last night. I, personally, do not condone the online attack on their Facebook page but that is of course up to the individual., I have also requested members of the event to remove any they may have already posted but I have no power to do so. For those who are uninformed breastfeeding at 1 is not only recommended but it aids nutrition, soothing and attachment- for Victoria's child they may or may not have required a feed during this weekend but provision needed to be in place to facilitate this and it would be unfair for the child not to ensure this is possible, this does not mean that a nursing mother must be sequestered away from living a normal adult life for the duration. The rights regarding discrimination is to protect the right of the breastfeeding mother to do so. I won't be returning here to fight the fight but as MNHQ deleted the last thread I have had to start my own to give you my own twopence'th if anybody wants to contact us for more information the email address is [email protected]

Ooh now that's just a wee bit patronising isn't it? You do know you posted this on the biggest parenting site don't you?

HauntedNoddyCar · 14/07/2014 13:42

I wondered if it is plain and simply an insurance issue.

The whole thing is lunacy all round.

I agree that cedar falls is lovely, a bit dated in its decor but the facilities and treatments are great. Perfect place for a nice day AWAY FROM THE KIDS!

AtYourCervix · 14/07/2014 13:44

Should we organise a counter-protest?

A 'Keep Cedar Falls Child Free' campaign?

Do you realise how dangerous that road is outside cf and how many have been killed. I grow up nearby. The thought of you taking young children onto that road is frightening. It has lots of hidden corners and the cars won't see you. You are being very silly over something that isn't illegal (under 16 are banned) Please speak to the police about this. I'm concerned someone will be killed over this.

seagull70 · 14/07/2014 13:45

Agree - this is not a breastfeeding issue (it is possibly a customer service one) so why a 'nurse-in'?

You will look silly and ridiculous because you have spectacularly missed the point.

There have been genuine cases where breastfeeding mothers HAVE been discriminated against and in those cases it is only right that people rally and cause an uproar because it's bloody disgraceful.

THIS however is not one of those times and by organising this silly little protest you will be doing a huge disservice to women generally and doing precisely NOTHING to increase awareness of the rights of a nursing mother.

If you genuinely care about 'wimmins rights' and wish to advocate the rights of a nursing mother then you will cancel this and walk away.

I rather suspect however that you don't/won't

Discoflame · 14/07/2014 13:46

What happened to the last thread???

Been following this agog! Would love to spend a day at a spa with no babies or children in it!

HaroldLloyd · 14/07/2014 13:47

I doubt they cancelled the booking as she asked politely could she feed in the car park.

TillyTellTale · 14/07/2014 13:47

it would be unfair for the child not to ensure this is possible, this does not mean that a nursing mother must be sequestered away from living a normal adult life for the duration.
Er, then, don't go somewhere child-free for the weekend. Not going to child-free spas isn't being sequestered. In this instance, the woman is receiving exactly the same treatment as a formula-feeding woman- she's not allowed to bring the baby along.

Unless she was expressly forbidden to use a breastpump (to maintain her supply) while she was at the spa, there's no discrimination.

I have awesome breastfeeding credentials, by the way.

Nicknacky · 14/07/2014 13:48

Like I said on the other thread, my nail appointment got cancelled last week, will you do a sit in for me?

MonstersBalls · 14/07/2014 13:48

What reason did CF give for cancelling the booking? This is the crucial point imo but it's definitely a customer service issue rather than a bf issue so a sit-in is rather pointless.

angelohsodelight · 14/07/2014 13:48

Go protest somewhere else for a worthy cause...

LittlePeaPod · 14/07/2014 13:48

Disco MNHQ zapped it after get this....... Vs family compliane s whined

Sirzy · 14/07/2014 13:49

this is daft, will simply make breastfeeding as a whole seem daft because some people are a) uncapable of waiting for the whole story to judge and b) can't see why a 1 year old would be banned from somewhere with a no under 16s policy.

TheFairyCaravan · 14/07/2014 13:49

You do realise there are 3 sides to this story? Hers, theirs and the truth? I doubt, from reading her and her family's posts on Fb that she was polite on the phone and that is why they cancelled her booking.

She is a serial complainer. She is very entitled and not only that, now she has launched a shit storm on CFs is worried about people putting things on her business wall, so that makes her a hypocrite, also!

TantrumsAndBalloons · 14/07/2014 13:49

OP can i ask what you are protesting about?

Because I actually dont understand.

This is a child free spa. That means that children are not allowed.
BF does not give you a free pass to attend adult only venues and kick up a huge fuss. Its ADULT ONLY.
The same would be true for any child, breast fed, bottle fed, a child with separation anxiety.

It is our job, surely, as parents to understand that not everywhere in the world has to welcome children. If it is clearly stated no under 18s, why on earth would anyone think it is appropriate to ask to bring their child?

If your child cannot cope without you for 24 hours then you do the sensible thing and go to a place that is child friendly. You do not kick up a fuss about bringing your child to a CHILD FREE PLACE

HairyPotter · 14/07/2014 13:51

I'm extremely cross the thread got pulled. I had to go out and when I came back it had been zapped. Did MN cone back and explain the reason or just stick a deletion message on?

SauvignonBlanche · 14/07/2014 13:51

No shit? Hmm

seagull70 · 14/07/2014 13:52

You have set up a gmail account specifically? Are you freaking MAD?

By the way OP - my sister in law is a breast feeding councillor, she is closely involved in breastfeeding issues and raises awareness of the law and rights of breastfeeding mothers.

I have to tell you that she thinks that you and Mrs L are hideously wrong on this - I won't repeat her exact words but you can guess

You need to take some very deep breaths and calm down

HaroldLloyd · 14/07/2014 13:52

"Breastfeeding aids nutrition"

Grin
Discoflame · 14/07/2014 13:54

Thanks Littlepeapod. I missed it going.

Honestly can't believe the comments on Facebook. These women are giving breastfeeding a bad name and doing no favours for themselves.
