To want to set the record straight about the Cedar Falls Nurse In

Mamagiraffe · 14/07/2014 13:27

I am organising the peaceful protest OUTSIDE THE GATES of Cedar Falls. The protest is not taking place because Victoria tried to take an under 16 to an age-restricted place expecting special treatment it is because the spa have cancelled her booking rather than allowing her to make alternative arrangements. Whatever has happened in the past is immaterial and I am horrified by the muck-raking and bullying instigated here last night. I, personally, do not condone the online attack on their Facebook page but that is of course up to the individual., I have also requested members of the event to remove any they may have already posted but I have no power to do so. For those who are uninformed breastfeeding at 1 is not only recommended but it aids nutrition, soothing and attachment- for Victoria's child they may or may not have required a feed during this weekend but provision needed to be in place to facilitate this and it would be unfair for the child not to ensure this is possible, this does not mean that a nursing mother must be sequestered away from living a normal adult life for the duration. The rights regarding discrimination is to protect the right of the breastfeeding mother to do so. I won't be returning here to fight the fight but as MNHQ deleted the last thread I have had to start my own to give you my own twopence'th if anybody wants to contact us for more information the email address is [email protected]

Die thread! Die! Wink

This has been both entertaining and useful, I've certainly learned a lot about the perils of putting too much of yourself on social media and some lucky mumsnetters will enjoy a discounted spa visit. But I think we should leave on a high (so to speak), it would be a shame if this thread had to go poof too.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/07/2014 10:59

I understand Granny's point about an apology not necessarily being needed - but I do think that, if the lady concerned wants the furore to stop, a public apology and an acknowledgement that it was out of order to ask people to post reviews on Cedar Falls' website, would be a good place to start.

I think she should also be meditating on the saying. "Live by the sword, die by the sword". She thought it was acceptable to try to affect another business by getting people to post negative reviews, but is now upset that this is rebounding on her own business. She can't have it both ways - if it is OK for her to use social media against another business, she has to be prepared to accept the consequences to her and her business. It sounds as if she is very savvy about social media and its effectiveness, so she cannot claim ignorance of the possible consequences to her.

I agree we should let this lie but...this keeps going through my head...this just wasn't a very good idea anyway...whether feeding in the car or in a private room or 'off site' ...or even staying the night...
So I guess relevant for anyone in a similar situation...
Assuming two cars/drivers - wouldn't it be in the child's interest for the mother in this situation to go home to do the feed?
Driving a child at bedtime is likely to end up with said child falling asleep and needing waking for the feed...and also be disruptive also there was another young sibling - would they have to do the drive too?
Someone -either the mother or father with Dcs - is going to do the same distance driving ...
I think in the case of a non driving mother - with a child of one - missing a single feed would be better for the child than the drive Confused

In fact missing the single feed would be better routine wise than taking them - even if they could stay the night somewhere ...

Good for Sienna, I think you're doing the right thing by stopping. though I may have laughed like drain every time you posted Grin

HaroldLloyd · 16/07/2014 12:37

The end is near
It's time to draw
The final curtaaaaaaain

SiennaBlake · 16/07/2014 12:42

I got deleted? Was it because I commented about people LIKE her? Crikey.

I'll try again.

I think people who start social media storms about nothing often have something missing in their own lives and feed off the attention and playing the victim. I think people who do that are probably quite mixed up so while I think an apology in those type of situations would be great, I think it is something that is beyond comprehension to people who would do something like that in the first place.

Its a shame that social media gives lies such power.

Yes, my first version probably did read as more personal than general, that is a fair point.

Staywithme · 16/07/2014 13:38

sienna

Tut tut. Grin

Sorry lack of sleep is making me wicked. Blush

Sallyingforth · 16/07/2014 13:56

We were specifically asked not to make personal comments about people who aren't here to defend themselves, I suspect that is why.

Strange. That doesn't seem to apply to people calling Stephen Fry a shit.

Yes Maryz.
But to my mind put themselves in the public eye as a career move is exactly what this person has done, probably to gain free publicity for her rather strange products.
She not been innocently caught up in something not of her own making.

Viviennemary · 16/07/2014 16:32

My Mum had a saying. Don't dish it out if you can't take it.

Sallyingforth · 16/07/2014 19:03

Quite right Vivienne. My dad used to say that.

Parenthetically, I think MNHQ have set themselves a difficult task if they are going to decide which Facebook/Twitter posters can be criticised and sworn at on here and which can't. Where do they draw the line?

katese11 · 16/07/2014 19:06

Just have to say I love that persistent spammer who's all over the cf fbook page. She's just totally oblivious to the drama around her!

londonrach · 16/07/2014 19:12

Who Kate missed that one....was it Sam f

vindscreenviper · 16/07/2014 19:22

I'm normally very good at killing threads, looks like I'm losing my touch. Sad

LittlePeaPod · 16/07/2014 19:34

No I think its the woman offering some sort of dodgy sound "loan facility". Strange one that one!

LittlePeaPod · 16/07/2014 19:34

Sounding not sound... Grrrrr predictive text..

LittlePeaPod · 16/07/2014 19:36

Vind don't worry it will die in about 179 posts unless one of the supporters decides to stupidly start another thread.

LinesThatICouldntChange · 16/07/2014 20:29

Sallyingforth - unfortunately I don't think they have a clue where they are drawing the line, with the result that there is a completely inconsistent approach to how threads are dealt with

katese11 · 16/07/2014 23:21

Yes, loan woman! She's on quite a lot of the threads over there.

vindscreenviper · 19/07/2014 21:24

Did anybody hear this being talked sbout on this weeks News Quiz? I've just listened to the podcast and somebody read out a clipping from a Taunton newspaper saying a spa has offered a free colonic irrigation to a mother who was not allowed to breastfeed at the spa, it must be the same protagonists!
But why a colonic? Are they suggesting she's full of shit?
So she made MN delete the thread but then went to the press herself.Hmm

UsedtobeFeckless · 19/07/2014 21:35

Yay! I heard that bit on the News Quiz! Grin It made me snort shiraz all over the Argos catalogue ... Evil Baby Starving Spa Bods have a pleasingly dry sense of humour!
