To wonder why MNHQ still haven't given us our Chalet School topic?

Because we probably shouldn't still be hanging out in AIBU, four (or is it five?) threads later.

I've been reading all the lovely transcripts, and although I started Prefects yesterday, I don't want to finish it, because it's the last one! :-(

YY to Kingscote!

Maybe a Fiction Schools topic and we could have all the schools. We could play matches and have match teas!

Tinuviel · 13/07/2014 11:54

Joey, I seem to remember that Joan was eating cheap cake bought at the corner shop. So I guess it's the equivalent of "Your Mam shops at Netto!" (And, yes, I have heard that used as an insult!)

Vintage, are you hanging out with that unsavoury Vic Coles? Miss Annersley will be keeping an eye on you!

Tanith · 13/07/2014 11:59

...instead of good, wholesome Leafy cake (whatever that is!) made by Mother's fair hand.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 13/07/2014 12:01

People requesting transcript details: I am on my really really rubbish phone atm and can't see how to easily message you. I will do it this evening, if someone else doesn't get there first. :)

I think the pre-date checklist should also include doctor credentials, and family history of twins.

lazurda · 13/07/2014 12:13

Hola amigas - am enjoying this new thread on my hols in the Canaries!

Going back upthread - I could never understand EBD's obsession with curly hair - everyone in the CS seemed to have it - bronzy curls, rampant curls, Mary-Lou's post accident curls seemed almost a badge of honour! I have never wanted anything but straight golden hair - although I guess using straighteners and having it highlighted is a bit Joan Baker-ish??

Skinidin · 13/07/2014 12:14

May I add my name to the list of people wanting transcripts?

Pretty please? I did call my DD Maeve after the irrepressible chestnut haired prattler!

lazurda · 13/07/2014 12:19

I am the "proud mamma of two small sons" - well, 20 and 23 now but they both have CS names - very minor bit part characters though. I myself share my name with a major CS character >stirs veal in creamy sauce and orders kitchen maids about

HercShipwright · 13/07/2014 12:58

I too have a chalet school name. I hate mine though.

(it's not thekla. Or eustacia)

RueDeWakening · 13/07/2014 13:48

Just sent a job lot of links to transcripts, if you wanted it and didn't get a message give me a shout, I might have missed one :o

JoeyMaynardsghost · 13/07/2014 14:34

Thanks tinuviel I forgot the cake was cheap from the corner shop. The devil is in the detail!

lazurda Are your sons doctors? If so they could go and work at the San which is dead handy for finding a wife.

I also have a chalet school name (well, the first bit is) and so does my cousin. Not the same name though.

TheObligatoryNotQuiteSoNewGirl · 13/07/2014 14:56

My name is almost a Chalet School name - my name ends in y, but the minor character Chalet Girl spells hers with ie at the end - think like Lily/Lillie, with Lillie being the Chalet School name, and Lily being mine, except I prefer to spell it Lillie when I can (not connected to the CS, just the fact that everyone has my name, and I was fed up with having the same name as so many other people.

It's time to own up. I too am the proud mamma of two girls (singletons) now in their 20s. DD1 is called Helena, after Nell Wilson. And she shortens it to Nell! My other favourite character is Cornelia but even I couldn't have wished that on DD2 who has a non-Chalet name.

Skinidin · 13/07/2014 15:47

I've never regretted my daughter's name!

I had never come across it when I saw it ( I was about twelve) and I kept it up my sleeve in case I ever had a girl.

And 30 years and two DS later I did! :)

Holliewantstobehot · 13/07/2014 15:59

Please please please can i have a link to the transcripts too? I will give you some choc and a bag of dried fruit and nuts to keep you going when you next get caught inan avalanche!

SweetestThing · 13/07/2014 16:18

Another one requesting the link to the transcripts, please. Another MNetter kindly sent me some a few months ago, but I think the latest link has more.

I was in a second-hand bookshop a couple of weeks ago and found a hard back copy of The Chalet School and Jo. It was priced at £32 and I did switcher about buying it but decided I couldn't justify it :(

DeWee · 13/07/2014 16:19

We're really getting a Chalet School topic? Shock
Who fed MNHQ Matey's special milk?

If we have Chalet School, can we have a Lone Pine section too?

HercShipwright · 13/07/2014 16:23

It was actually one of the saddest days of my life when I completed my collection (which was before the days of the Internet, too). My life was a bit empty without the quest.

RueDeWakening · 13/07/2014 16:43

Cerita, my DS1 is at preschool with a Cornelia, I haven't dared ask if the mum got it from the CS books Grin

RobinHumphries · 13/07/2014 16:53

We didn't give MNHQ milk, we gave them Joan Bakers cordial (with extra gin) still seems to have worked.

Back to my hemming of sheets. I wonder if there is a sheets and pillowcase party being planned hence our punishment?

JoeyMaynardsghost · 13/07/2014 16:59

Ooh Robin I like that idea. Will you go as an angel again?

I have hemmed about of a sheet. Are we being measured by the amount we do or do we just sew as slowly as possible until the time is up?

lazurda · 13/07/2014 17:08

Joey - sons as doctors, no sadly not otherwise I could have looked forward to wonderful Chalet girls as DILs!!

I say, my good kids, what about a change from sheets and pillowcases - wasn't there a party in one of the books where they were all given two colours of crepe paper and required to fashion a costume....on second thoughts let's not bother - it sounds hard unless you have the deft and dainty fingers of a Frenchwoman!

Downamongtherednecks · 13/07/2014 17:09

Just re-read Jean of Storms (Brent-Dyer's "lost" book) which only resurfaced recently. Horribly dated, but enjoyed lines like "Somehow, he felt, as he had never felt before, the want of a woman to sit facing him as he read a new book on pulmonary complaints." I wonder if EBD used to hang around outside A&E in the hope of meeting a dashing young doctor?

lazurda · 13/07/2014 17:13

My mum has a Chalet name and a whole book to herself. As I have no daughters to pass my books on to, I tried, a few years ago when my Mum had just retired to get her interested. As she was born in 1930, I was quite surprised that she had never read any when she was young. Anyway, tried starting her off on "School at" - thought she'd love it, but not to be, she wasn't bothered!
Having said that, she and my Dad did visit Pertisau on holiday once and took photos for me of EBD's plaque - which I think is now on display in the tourist info centre there - correct me someone if I'm wrong.

Skinidin · 13/07/2014 17:21

Thank you RueDeWakening for that link!

I've already downloaded quite a few and soon will be as happy as a CS girl in a patisserie.

RobinHumphries · 13/07/2014 17:21

Yes Joey, I seem to be a one trick pony so will be an angel again. Still its a fairly easy costume as long as a certain person isn't sticking things in my hair....

I wonder what Joan Baker will come as?
