To wonder why MNHQ still haven't given us our Chalet School topic?

Because we probably shouldn't still be hanging out in AIBU, four (or is it five?) threads later.

I've been reading all the lovely transcripts, and although I started Prefects yesterday, I don't want to finish it, because it's the last one! :-(

Rue, your DD's school needs Miss Bubb!

Hmm, shop-bought cake or "saffron" cake... Decisions, decisions...

EatingMyWords · 12/07/2014 23:30

To go back to the melting snow drinks thing my DH (of 20 years) has just revealed that he has made tea with snow while camping Shock Envy

Vintagejazz · 12/07/2014 23:31

Nell, yes Blush Blush

I have been hiding this secret all term. But Joey threw some feathers around her garden and I saw the light.

DeWee · 12/07/2014 23:32

Vintage, my lamb, are you eating that shop bought cake in the street?

Vintagejazz · 12/07/2014 23:33

Agree though, Summerhouse fucking jolly well worth it.

Vintagejazz · 12/07/2014 23:34

Oh no De Wee, I'm eating it on the wall outside the chip shop.

JuniperTisane · 12/07/2014 23:34

Well hello, just popping in to mark my place. I think I might skip through to Highland Twins, getting a bit bored with Guernsey now.

Can i interest you in some of Anna's famous lemon biscuits, Nell?

Vintagejazz · 13/07/2014 00:03

Juniper 'Goes To It' is brilliant and charts the move from Guernsey and the first term in Amishire.

BOFster · 13/07/2014 00:11

Trills, thanks for that link. I blimmin' LOVE Cassandra Jane Parkin.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 13/07/2014 07:32

Juniper I am so bored of Anna's lemon biscuits. Has she no other recipes? you can get nicer ones in M&S too

Grin at eating the shop-bought cake on the wall outside the chip shop.

This morning's Peppa Pig (ugh) viewing featured a school coach trip up the mountains, complete with picnic and yodelling to hear the echo (and also French teacher, for the lucky uninitiated amongst you). Then the next episode was the sports day. Maybe I should start DS on the books already, there is are a number of v clear common points of interest here.

Actually I remember once seeing the doctor turn up to school on some pretence of an 'unwell' (= has a cold) pupil, too. Is Peppa Pig just a CS rip-off?

Tanith · 13/07/2014 08:48

You can't possibly skip Highland Twins Shock

It's pivotal to the series! It's referred to repeatedly in the remainder of the books!

It's the book in which Evil Betty gets her comeuppance

Although, frankly, if those twins hadn't been such a pair of ninnies, it might never have happened.

UniS · 13/07/2014 09:07

Arrrrgh, why did no one tell me highland twins is so important, I've only just ordered a copy of cs at war, could have bought the triple book ( exile, which I have already, war & h twins) instead.

Did ebd just like twins as a plot device?

TooSpotty · 13/07/2014 09:08

It is the only book with sssssecond ssssssight in it.

swampytiggaa · 13/07/2014 09:55

Been reading all the threads... Could someone please send me the link to the transcripts please?

I love the chalet school. Used to daydream about going :wistful sigh:

AmyMumsnet · 13/07/2014 10:45

Hi everyone, we're just looking at where the Chalet School topic has got to, hopefully it will be appearing very shortly. In the meantime, if you want to get our attention it's always best to start a thread in Site Stuff (or waft gin in our general direction).

Hope you're all having a lovely weekend.

MooncupGoddess · 13/07/2014 11:09

I'm slightly baffled by the need for a whole new topic - surely Children's Books is the natural home for these threads? It's great chatting about the CS but I'd be surprised if there were enough posts in the longer term to justify a whole topic.

JoeyMaynardsghost · 13/07/2014 11:12

Ooh we has been noticed! Grin

On the other hand, I am hemming sheets until October. That's fine if you want sheets that come unhemmed. I can't sew for toffee. Can't we just buy sheets? M&S do some nice ones and we could buy some cakes while we're there too.

That Joan Baker has a lot to answer to. Angry

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 13/07/2014 11:25

I thought the requests for a Chalet school section were just a joke. I can't decide whether I am Shock or Grin

If they'd opened M&S or John Lewis by the Tiernsee it would all have been a very different series... No hemming sheets... No absurd moral objection to shop cake...

JoeyMaynardsghost · 13/07/2014 11:30

Is shop cake that bad really? I mean, every time there's an event someone or other goes to and buys cakes from the patisserie - isn't that a shop? Did Mr Kipling make Exceedingly Good cakes back then? Or is it a snobbery such as " we shop in Waitrose but the lady next door shops in Asda"?

JoeyMaynardsghost · 13/07/2014 11:32

(I shop in Asda but will go to Waitrose for their Tiramisu, which is the best tiramisu I have ever eaten. It would even beat Karen's Tiramisu if she ever had decided to branch out into Italian food)

liz5029 · 13/07/2014 11:43

I love the Chalet school, my family think I'm mad, pouncing on childrens books enthusiastically in charity shops. I also got a little excited when I realised after I got married I would be E Benson, although thankfully not Eustacia.

Could anyone send me a link to the transcripts please? A lot of my books are the cut paperbacks and I'd love to read the full versions

VenusOfWillendorf · 13/07/2014 11:46

Hello, could someone send me a link to the transcripts please?
I adored these books when I was young, I have about half of them and borrowed a few
more from the library, but I still have a lot of 'gaps'. I was very unreasonably excited last week when I found a first edition "Jane" in a secondhand bookshop for five pounds! Particularly as Jane was one I'd not read!!
Wish they were still available to buy, its so rare now to find any in bookshops.

JoeyMaynardsghost · 13/07/2014 11:47

I also got a little excited when I realised after I got married I would be E Benson, although thankfully not Eustacia

LOL! That's brilliant. On being asked out - what's your surname? And then scan through the books to see if yours fits in.

That Joan Baker does have a lot to answer to. Wink

HercShipwright · 13/07/2014 11:48

I would support a chalet school topic. But I'd want a kingscote one too.
