To wonder why MNHQ still haven't given us our Chalet School topic?

Because we probably shouldn't still be hanging out in AIBU, four (or is it five?) threads later.

I've been reading all the lovely transcripts, and although I started Prefects yesterday, I don't want to finish it, because it's the last one! :-(

Grin Well I was hoping there'd be a doctor or two at MNHQ. Is there not? Not necessarily working there, married to one of them would suffice perfectly.

I think the thread would only end up full of 'normal' Children's Fiction fare if we all abandoned it, though. I just want some doctor person in a position of authority to say it's totally OK to wander off into drunken celebrations of Madame's birthday etc, if that's where we're ending up.

Thebodyloveschocolateandwine · 15/08/2014 14:27

They have headed to the clock golf.

Vintagejazz · 15/08/2014 15:06

That's true Nell I think the threads have picked up enough momentum to stay 'true chaletians' wherever they are placed.

RobinHumphries · 15/08/2014 15:48

NewGirl have you not tried E-bay for Jo to the rescue? Rescue

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 15/08/2014 16:30

Shock How much for the Armada?

haggisaggis · 15/08/2014 16:50

I've just spent £ 26 with GGB to get hold of Mary Lou and Summer Term. Never read Summer, but read Mary Lou in paperback format years ago.
I've been buying my mum CS hardbacks for Christmas for past few years. She thinks it's because I'm a doting daughter - not that it's the only way I can justify spending £ 40 ish per book on things I want to read.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 15/08/2014 17:02

Ha! I also spent 26 with GGBP yesterday haggis - Head Girl and Lavender.

I am justifying it all (mix of HBs and GGBs) as DS' inheritance. Grin

JoanBakersShopCake · 15/08/2014 17:30

Joan my lamb did your engagement last to that boy at college

Only until I realised that he wanted me to cook for him! That's why Chip Shops were invented. Good old Vic. He still buys me chips to have behind the bus stop. And making cakes with like, flour and eggs and stuff? No time for that. Mr Kipling rules! Grin

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 15/08/2014 17:36

Flour and eggs and sulphur and cod liver oil, surely?

TheObligatoryNotQuiteSoNewGirl · 15/08/2014 18:03

O.K (hides from prees due to slang usage), the verdict from MNHQ is that we should reach a consensus on whether we want to pitch our tents for guide camp in Adult or Children's fiction, and no one will complain because we're such nice, gentle young ladies apart from Joan but that goes without saying

I vote Children's, which then begs the question... what should we call the new thread, because we only have 14 posts left to decide...

Nell I accidently ordered two copies of Lavender from Abe Books recently. Because I llive in Ireland it wasn't really worth returning it as the postage woulldn't have been recoup. I'd have gladly sent it to you free gratis as I'd like it to have gone to a loving home. I atually gave it to a local charity shop but the next day when I was in there all the other books I'd given were on the shelves and there was no sign of Lavendar. I really hope they didn't just decide it looked like a boring old fashioned book and bin it. It was a HB from 1963.

Vintagejazz · 15/08/2014 18:06

I vote children as well. I was kind of hoping we could have a fan fic section if we had our own topic but hey ho.

Vintagejazz · 15/08/2014 18:14

As for titles:

The Chalet School Regroups?
New Home for the Chalet School?

TheObligatoryNotQuiteSoNewGirl · 15/08/2014 18:22

Ooooh yes, either of those, OOAOVJ! I think I prefer New Home though. Do you want to start it?

OP posts:
RobinHumphries · 15/08/2014 18:27

can we keep it secret from Joey do you think?

TheObligatoryNotQuiteSoNewGirl · 15/08/2014 18:29

We can only try, Robin ...

OP posts:
Vintagejazz · 15/08/2014 19:17

Happy to start it but there may be some more imaginative titles out there?
Eight posts to go.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 15/08/2014 19:45

Vintage I bet it got creamed off by the staff! Am sure it's in a v happy home now. would've been happier with me sniff sniff

I really really like New Home and am also perfectly happy with our officially sanctioned move to Children's. Plenty of time yet for world domination. Grin

EatingMyWords · 15/08/2014 19:53

New Home in Children's sounds good to me Grin

MsCeritaCello · 15/08/2014 20:08

Hmmm. Well done for asking, Vintage, (and I hope you didn't use any slang) but I'm not sure children's fiction is the place for us. For starters, I never go there - I tend to do all my MNing in AIBU. Wink Plus the reasons you said. Can we simply stay here? Presumably we can just start new threads as we've been doing without having to have the approval of MNHQ, especially as they won't give us a topic of our own. Or have I misunderstood?

I'm afraid as a child reader I had a sneaking sympathy with Simone and her crush on Joey. I wanted Jo for my amie intime too, and I would have suffered agonies of jealousy every time she made a new friend.

Vintagejazz · 15/08/2014 20:16

Started the new thread.

By the way, where is Posyfossilshoes? Is she actually daring to be on hols or having a life away from the Chalet School?

Vintagejazz · 15/08/2014 20:19

Oops sorry Cerita crossed post.

Please please join us on Children's books. Think of it as travelling to Guernsey Smile

MsCeritaCello · 15/08/2014 20:22

Ha! See you over there - if we don't get torpedoed on the way.

TheObligatoryNotQuiteSoNewGirl · 15/08/2014 20:24

Here's the new thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/childrens_books/2159963-New-Home-for-the-Chalet-School
