To serve guests instant coffee

DH and I aren't really coffee drinkers (prefer tea)so we just have a jar of instant coffee such as Nescafé. No real ground coffee.

Are we being unreasonable not to have 'proper' coffee in for guests?

I have one of those coffe makers you use on the cooker top, for me when I fancy it, or posh folks.
I have a huge selection of teas and instant coffee.

But its all for my whims and fancies mainly, the benefit to guests is a side product.

thatbloodywoman

is that called a percolator?

you know in Hungary every household has one. even poor old grandmas. It's the normal way to drink coffee. Instant is for convenience at office or when camping.

so I guess Hungarians are posher then the Brits? Wink Grin

Looks that way Zing Grin

I just thought it was a bit nifty and makes me look like an arty, creative type ....

First world problem yawn

Thanks for that insight little...

Wow, I'm really surprised by some of these responses!

I love coffee - I drink fresh from a cafetiere, stuff from a tassimo and various instants - and I like all of them.

I would automatically assume that if I was offered a coffee at someone's house that it would be instant. I thought that was just the norm!

I'm 34 and have lived all over the uk and would be labelled middle class, if that helps put it in context.

I'd just appreciate people's hospitality and be grateful that they offered me a drink!

TheRealAmandaClarke · 13/07/2014 05:45

Zing! congratulations!
I use a stove top percolator thingy. Also have instant and nesquick
Can I be an honorary Hungarian?

StillWishihadabs · 13/07/2014 06:37

What world do you all inhabit that you never drink or come across instant coffee ? I am as middle class as it gets and I must have it 2 or 3 times a week. Actually don't answer that , I do know it's the meeja init ? OP if you were kind enough to invite me to your home I would be very grateful for any hot drink you provided especially if it contained caffeine.

Southeastdweller · 13/07/2014 06:43

I would just assume they aren't coffee people or don't have much money, as instant just isn't as tasty to drink as fresh. It wouldn't occur to me to ever serve instant to guests and I haven't bought instant for a decade. I can't believe there's an instant coffee in the world as good as Monmouth or Union Yirgacheffe. The coffee at most indie coffee shops is also better than anything instant I've had.

ZingGoesPop · 16/07/2014 23:47

yes Ams, of course! Grin

if you really want to be!

baby is not born yet btw, just had to NC to acknowledge the fact that I'm now officially 9 months pg!
well, actually I was due yesterday. But not long now, because if nothing happens I'll have ELSC on the 28th (can't be induced).

anyway, back to coffee, I had a really nice one today - 1 spoonful of instant coffee and 2 spoonfuls of hazelnut choc powder (Cadbury's) in a big mug, with lots of milk and cream on top..was delicious!

Iownafourinchporsche · 16/07/2014 23:55

If I go to any of my friends houses, they always serve proper coffee and not instant. Only my parents and in laws Serve instant

TheRealAmandaClarke · 17/07/2014 06:07

Thanks Zing Grin
