My MIL says that driving a yellow car means you're a show off and a bit thick.

I've just bought myself a yellow 1972 VW Beetle.
I'm a bit worried that i'm not cool enough to pull it off but definitely don't think it'll make me look stupid.

My first car was yellow, with black and pink stripes. It was an ex demo car. It was meant to be noticed.

I didn't give a damn, my dad acquired it off a mate and gave it me for free when he got a company car.

I wouldn't say it makes anyone look thick. But I do find yellow cars horrible.

Personally I think it's an eyesore but if you're happy with it then who cares.

I always thought that yellow was the safest colour to get a car. Whatever the light reflection or weather it can be seen.

I admire anyone who buys a car that's a little out of the ordinary. It's all so boring nowadays all grey or silver (which is just shiny grey really).

i had a little yellow fiat siecento. it was a very happy car. we called it the little yellow bullet. Best thing was i could always find it in the car park.

Um, I have never understood the attraction of bright, banana-yellow cars. I'm always surprised when I see an expensive, or obviously flashy car in yellow and think 'but why didn't they choose red, silver, or racing green? That looks like Nesquick banana, or a piece of Lego, childish, not sophisticated, not flashy'.

I'm guessing that other people's taste is different from mine.

Beetles are very cute. Orange and pale blue were the classic colours and, much as I'm generally not a fan of orange, it suits old-style beetles. Also, because beetles are cute, they'd look good in cute, fun colours, so my anti-sophistication incongruity radar would not be alerted by a yellow beetle.

So I'm saying cute and fun rather than cool.

I was once given a bright yellow car as a company car. I was completely horrified when they told me what I was getting (in my defence I was led to believe I was having something completely different).

Anyway I have to say I ended up absolutely loving it! I was gutted when I had to give it back. It was a real head turner, you never lost it in a car park because it stood out so well. I would definitely have a yellow one again. Especially a yellow beetle!

DH's yellow Ford Escort was not cool. At all.

In our car a yellow car would get one point, a Fiat 500 gets one point and a yellow Fiat 500 gets 10 billion points and massive cheering.

Seriously, that was a bitchy thing for your MIL to say. We had a yellow Volvo estate when I was a kid and we called it the Yellow Banana! Good for you if you like it.

And if you see a yellow Fiat Cinquecento you get to shout "Bus Wankers!" Like Jay in the Inbetweeners.
