to think that yellow cars are cool? Especially Beetles?

My MIL says that driving a yellow car means you're a show off and a bit thick.

I've just bought myself a yellow 1972 VW Beetle.
I'm a bit worried that i'm not cool enough to pull it off but definitely don't think it'll make me look stupid.

AIBU to sit outside her house in my nice shiny yellow bug pointedly reading Ulysses and doing the extra hard suduko?

I love yellow cars, my friend had a yellow Mini, I was gutted when she sold it :(

I think some cars can pull of yellow better than others, little Fiats work particularly well.

When I used to buzz around town in a British Racing Green Mini Cooper, my bumper sticker read: 'Ain't No Shitty Beetle'. Nuff said.

Hmmm..... personally I hate VW Beetles, but then I'm not a fan of small cutesy type cars in general.

Yellow should be reserved for supercars really!

I'm a bit torn on this and I guess it depends on the shade. There's a yellow 107 near me and it's bright yellow. I can't help but think why the hell you would choose it. It's really awful.

Having said that, there is also a fiat 500 that is like a custardy yellow which is gorgeous. Sadly, my usually laid back DP said he will actually leave if I ever get a fiat! He thinks they are absolutely awful.

I have ALWAYS wanted a yellow car! Ideally a new convertible beetle! My silver ford doesn't quite match up
(Though it does fit a lot of rubbish stuff in it...)

My 11 month old Fiesta got written off by a yellow camper van. It pulled out of a car park exit on DP and he hit it head on.

I have a burnt orange Seat Arosa (same as a V.W. Lupo), I am a show off, I lurve my retro car. He is 13 years old, immaculate, the only one I have seen on the road in his colour and my book of choice that I read outside school [showing off, obviously] is H.G.Wells short history of the world..

Sounds good to me. My Dad has a yellow car too, I think it's great.
I do think that the same colours don't suit all cars and that generally small cars suit brighter colours though. Oh and I think silver and white are very boring, apart from fiat 500s which are the only cars that I think look good in white. Can you tell I think car colour is important

Up until the Beetle I vowed only to have red cars - more visible in my mind. I'd never have a black or silver car for that reason.

What I find bizarre is that people in the UK think yellow is an ostentatious colour. I think red is far more glaring/dramatic, and that's always been a popular car colour in the UK.

I seem to recall yellow being very popular in the eighties, in the country I was in, even police cars were yellow.

I have a new red Golf, I would have had yellow (or maybe purple) if I could have. If I lived in Germany I probably could have: I think in Germany you can get VWs in the same vast range of non-standard colours that are only available on Audis in the UK. (I have seen both purple and orange Audis here.)

The orange Audi was a TT, and the purple one an A5, in both cases the colour suited the type of car, though I didn't like the TT, it would have looked much better in yellow. (I think there are somewhere between fifty and a hundred colours you can choose from, if you pay extra for a custom colour, however I'm not actually sure that yellow is one of them.)

As much as I like yellow, it has to be the right shade. Custard/banana yes. It mustn't tend towards orange.

We have a yellow 1974 MG Midget. It's not the colour I'd choose but it's so right for the era.

Yellow car!

To explain, am I the only person here who's listened to Cabin Pressure (awesome radio 4 sitcom with Benedict Cumberbatch)? One of the characters (slightly dim but lovely male air hostess) plays a game whenever he's on the road - ie you have to shout 'Yellow car!' whenever you see one - first person to shout it gets the point or whatever.

We play it on every car journey now :)

/tragic.

Therefore, yellow cars are awesome.
