My MIL says that driving a yellow car means you're a show off and a bit thick.

I've just bought myself a yellow 1972 VW Beetle.
I'm a bit worried that i'm not cool enough to pull it off but definitely don't think it'll make me look stupid.

AIBU to sit outside her house in my nice shiny yellow bug pointedly reading Ulysses and doing the extra hard suduko?

It's a good job your MIL doesn't live in Oz, you wouldn't believe some of the car colours here! Not many black cars for obvious reasons, but they do love a laity paint job! I love it, in Ireland everyone has silver, grey or black, so dull!

I had a lovely little yellow fiat siecento a few years ago, we called it "the banana"! I loved it and still miss it. Whenever I see one it makes me smile

Beetles have never really done it for me, but at least it isn't a new mini, beetle or 500, the originals were affordable, practical cars for the masses whereas their 21st equivalents are overpriced posing wagons.

Is no one else driven to distraction with their DC shouting "SPOT-O" every time they see a yellow car/van/lorry/bus? Or is it only at their school. Stupid game.

However.....

In Canada growing up we used to call Beetles "punch buggies" and when you saw one you would punch your friend's/brother's arm as hard as you could and yell "PUNCHBUGGY BLUE (or insert other colour here) NO PUNCHBACKS"

Small yellow cars are lovable.
Large yellow cars are an eyesore.

I have always believed that yellow cars would be wasp magnets.

There's yellow and there's yellow. If there's too much green in it, it just looks shit.

By definition, it is a showy-off colour to buy as it will attract more attention than a more ordinary car but so what.
