To think apple crumble should definitely be served with custard?

Not either fresh cream or ice cream, but lovely hot warm custard.

Out for a lovely meal last night and just to stuff my face more end the night perfectly I ordered apple crumble. The waitress asked me if I would like cream or ice cream with it. I wanted custard, they don't serve custard with Apple crumble, or indeed any of their puddings

Outrageous! Unacceptable isn't it?

I'm not sure if steak and icecream is a thing, suspect it's not very common if it is, but I think I've seen/heard of dessert being served with main dish in an institutional settings, can't remember if it was military or a prison.

I hate custard. I'd never defile an apple crumble with it.

Well, not if I were the one eating it. I do custard for everyone else. DS2 has a bowl of custard (which he pronounces coostard) and no crumble.

YANBU. Ice cream with hot puddings is WRONG. I love ice cream, but it does not go with a hot pudding which just makes it all melty and rubbish, but without providing your pudding with the creamy goodness you get from cream or custard.

Crumble should be with custard, or cream if that's not possible. I'd rather have it on its own than with ice cream.

With ice cream in summer and custard in winter.

It's the people who sneak cinnamon in and don't tell you (thereby giving you the option to decline altogether) that get my goat.

I don't get icecream with hot desserts. It just goes a bit melty. The hot and cold combo sets my teeth off. You just end up eating them separately.
It has to be custard as it becomes one with the pudding.

Custard with crumble (in winter) yes, yummy scrummy. But with some things it's Horrid with a capital 'H'

I always prefer milk on crumble, that might just be me though....

Binky - DP is thrilled that I'm wrong over the banana and custard thing. I will never have hot custard with banana - it's all kinds of wrong in my head!

Like the hot/cold thing too, but do not like custard unless it's cold and the fresh stuff. Never Birds nor Ambrosia. Texture issues. So would probably go for ice-cream with apple pie or crumble.

That said, I don't actually like crumble.....

I realise this makes me wrong in many eyes, and certainly I'm a borderline freak in DH's eyes, who would have custard on every single pudding if he could.

But despite my own pickiness FFS YANBU, the restaurant is being weird not serving custard at all.

My 1st choice is ice cream, but it's got to be a nice proper vanilla one - none of that cheap soft scoop stuff.
My 2nd choice would be a little clotted cream
My 3rd choice would be custard, but tbh it would seem a bit too stodgy and just too hot as well to me.

I'm still whiffing the smelling salts after the mention of MILK.

I like the way the milk makes (hot) crumble go into a gooey sugary fatty paste .

Wouldn't cream achieve something similar, without freaking everyone out and taste better?
