To want two marshmallows at m&s

DizzyBlondeMum2 · 29/06/2014 23:48

Coffee with dsx2 on Friday. Choose m&s as they 'do the coffee with the marshmallows mum!!! '

One boy wants Percy Pig juice, so ask if we might have two marshmallows with other boys babychino to avoid world war three.

Am told we have a new policy of only one marshmallow. No apology, no smile, nada!

It was only a mini marshmallow too! Is this the pinnacle of un-child friendly. Or AIBU?

I would have gladly swapped my mini hobnob for a marshmallow if I had to trade. We had even bought cake as well. May be I should move on...

I wonder in the bad will this post has generated has cost M&S more in lost revenue than they have made by restricting each customer to 1 marshmallow??

Our local Waterstones in Greenwich gives out free baby chinos with a free marshmellow.

MissMilbanke · 30/06/2014 15:05

Seeing as this has obviously upset you -dont go again.

MarmaladeShatkins · 30/06/2014 15:05

"I wonder in the bad will this post has generated has cost M&S more in lost revenue than they have made by restricting each customer to 1 marshmallow??"

I doubt it! I think that some people are a bit deluded about this "power of Mumsnet" thing.

SarahAndFuck · 30/06/2014 15:05

Is this an old thread? I'm sure I've read this before.

SarahAndFuck · 30/06/2014 15:06

Oh my god, I must have had a premonition! Shock

Topaz25 · 30/06/2014 15:08

There was an old thread about someone complaining that M&S serve marshmallows with babychinos at all because a baby could choke on them! Damned if they do, damned if they don't!

HillyHolbrook · 30/06/2014 15:15

I think YABU. Your kids can't always have the exact same. My cousins kids are a total nightmare because of this. One of them was ill when we all had cake, then woke up in the morning to demand two slices because her brother had one the night before and she didn't.Hmm

They also need the same amount of money spent on them at all times, they're quite good at mental maths to make sure their sibling gets nothing more than them.Grin

I'm not judging your parenting, I understand it's probably an attempt to be 'fair' as it is in my cousins case, but it's such a bad lesson to teach them.

YANBU to ask, of course, but if they say no, it's a good lesson for your son to realise he can't always have the same as his brother, and sometimes other people get stuff you want and can't always have.

WorraLiberty · 30/06/2014 15:17

Thanks HoneyDragon. I genuinely thought it was kid's coffee Blush

Notso · 30/06/2014 15:18

YABU go to Costa the babyccinos come in chocolate flavour and you may purchase as many extra deathly marshmallows as you wish.

londonrach · 30/06/2014 15:19

Yabu. Marshmallows in hot drinks, your child had a cold drink.

strawberryjam · 30/06/2014 15:22

Yabu for asking as drink didn't come with one, M&S is bu Percy pig juice is vile and god only knows why they sell it

OnlyLovers · 30/06/2014 15:23

The staff member sounds miserable, but YABU. It's not their responsibility to control your kids or prevent 'World War Three'.

They need to learn that they can't always have everything they want and that it's tiresome for them to always want exactly the same as their siblings.

GobblersKnob · 30/06/2014 15:27

YANBU at all, everywhere you go shops and cafes should give your children free stuff in order to keep them happy and prevent tantrums

LeBearPolar · 30/06/2014 15:30

The OP has disappeared now you're not all joining in the M&S outrage.

I agree - Percy Pig juice or a marshmallow. Your child needs to learn that they can't have everything all the time but actually have to make choices.

2rebecca · 30/06/2014 15:34

It shouldn't have been WW3 if the boy requesting juice had been told the marshmallows only come with the hot milk drink. His choice which drink he gets. If I want frothey milk and grated chocolate (yuk) I order a capuccino, I don't demand they sprinkle chocolate on my americano.
If you want combo drinks buy some marshmallows, juice and milk and do it at home.

katienana · 30/06/2014 15:40

That's really really stingy. When I was in M&S a few weeks ago DS was refusing to go back into the trolley, a member of staff in the cafe brought over a chocolate lollipop for him! Mind you the service in that particular cafe has always been excellent.

Pagwatch · 30/06/2014 15:41

Percy pigs are lovely.

When I go to my local cafe with ds2 he has a sprite. I then request a portion of marshmallows for him. They always give him a cup with about 7 big marshmallows in it and then don't charge me.
My cafe is ace and ds2 is shockingly gorgeous so it's a great combo.
Grin

HoneyDragon · 30/06/2014 15:42

When I used to get a coffee so I could sit down and feed dd in comfort they used to bring over a glass of water and a sneaky piece of cake once they realised I was bf.

Thumbwitch · 30/06/2014 15:43

Personally I think they should have mini packets of mini marshmallows on sale at the counter, for those for whom 1 minimallow is insufficient.

Although, really? Who has a policy on "one minimallow per cup, no more" - that's so tight. There should always be two - one pink, and one white. Would that have caused more meltdown though - who gets the pink, who gets the white - would the OP have then requested one more of each colour so her 2 boys could each have one of each?

HoneyDragon · 30/06/2014 15:43

So basically they cut back on marshmallow supplies to fund free cake for me .... Which I think is perfectly sensible.

Thumbwitch · 30/06/2014 15:43

Lots of 'each's in that last post, sorry. Grin

Trapper · 30/06/2014 15:43

What on earth is Percy Pig juice? Is it made with real pigs?

BakeOLiteGirl · 30/06/2014 15:44

If thy get mystery customers the assistant could be up shit street for giving extra. I worked for ATG once and the venue had a screw as much money as possible out of customers policy. But also we had mystery customers all the time who would report back if we did anything against policy.

Fucking joyous place.

NickiFury · 30/06/2014 15:45

thumbwitch you've opened a can of worms there! Where the hell is the OP? we definitely need more info to resolve this.

HoneyDragon · 30/06/2014 15:47

Surely the op is happy now to know that as a result of M&Ss refusal only ONE of her children were in mortal peril?
