Apparently bit an Italian player.

First Ajax, then Ivanovic now this.

Surely he shouldn't be allowed to play for his country if he is capable of doing this again?

Uruguay captain explains that it was an accident.

Unbelievable!

Nomama · 25/06/2014 20:23

Oh is that the 'he pushed his shoulder into Louis face bit?

Oh, wow! That's even more ridiculous!

Pictures show nothing... ha ha!

Toadinthehole · 25/06/2014 20:33

Please will someone post some Suarez jokes. There must be loads going round.

According to the Guardian, FIFA are going to have an urgent hearing, to which Uruguay will only be allowed to provide written evidence.

So there will be no "interview with a vampire"

I like this one:

The headline in the Huffington post was Chewy Louis and the Blues

PhaedraIsMyName · 25/06/2014 21:12

Graham Taylor was commenting fairly sensibly. Basically horrible thing to do but as well as banning him is there a personality disorder needing treatment?

PhaedraIsMyName · 25/06/2014 21:21

A comparison is Beckham's sending off - the English press savaged his actions and most people I know were disappointed in him. There are certainly cultural differences in how this kind of behaviour is viewed.

Beckham's world cup sending off offence pales into insignificance compared to this. As I recall he was widely criticised for his behaviour.

caruthers · 25/06/2014 22:00

Last years confederation cup against the same player.

Saying he has form for this is an understatement...in the confed cup incident it was a close miss.

ComposHat · 25/06/2014 23:06

I get that it is horrible, weird and unsanitary, but why is biting a player seen as being more worthy of lengthy ban than a horrific studs up challenge that could easily end a career and cause lasting damage.

Biting is pretty vile and I am playin devil's advocate to a certain extent, but should reckless and malicious tacking not be equally heavily punished? For example did end Haaland's career.

caruthers · 25/06/2014 23:22

I see what you are saying composhat and as a City fan myself that tackle appalled me, it was disgusting considering the history behind the challenge and made it even worse....when a tackle that obvious is made I would agree with you 100%.

Suarez however is a real puzzler, he had a great season but has yet again shot himself firmly in the foot and I can't see a way back from him doing this a third time....maybe other professionals can make a stand via the PFA and refuse to play with him?

Liverpool fans have just gotten a side together that may win things and this fool has undone everything they are looking forward to.

Toadinthehole · 26/06/2014 00:03

For me, it's the gamesmanship it represents. Yes, possibly Suarez acted on instinct. Alternatively, he did provoke the Italian into retaliation (and a red card) or by unsettling him enough to make a mistake (and Uruguay did score shortly after).

Bad tackles can serve the same purpose of course.

Toadinthehole · 26/06/2014 00:05

Sorry, "did IT TO provoke".

Alisvolatpropiis · 26/06/2014 00:22

Yanbu

Biting is animalistic. The vast majority of adults can be expected to not bite someone who pisses them off during their working day, surely? I prefer to use my hole puncher on annoying colleagues

fifi669 · 26/06/2014 01:28

Here's a few I found online....

Ps Uruguay are having a laugh with their defence aren't they!?

He's got a 9 match ban.

Good job. If he does it again he should be permanently banned.

londonrach · 26/06/2014 15:19

Too min a punishment lifetime ban and remove his team from the World Cup.

BeCool · 26/06/2014 15:25

apparently is a 'record' ban for FIFA.

Previous record was 8 matches in 1994.

Nomama · 26/06/2014 15:26

9 International matches. So that removes him from Uraguay team for some time to come!

He also got 4 months total ban, so LFC will lose him until October! And he can't transfer, so Barcelona can't have him yet (maybe). The cash fine was cheap too (£66K).

Timetoask · 26/06/2014 15:27

I have been reading an online Uruguayan newspaper (in spanish), they are in complete denial! Very few of the sensible people posting comments say that "darling Luisito" did the wrong thing. Most of them are asking for the team to refuse to play in the rest of the games and accusing the FIFA of being a Mafia. Comparing what he did to other fouls. Saying it's a witch hunt by the English and Italian press.
Hard to believe that a group of people can be so blind to the reality.

BeCool · 26/06/2014 15:29

4 months total ban do they take into account its summer In Europe now so half of that time he wouldn't be playing anyway?

Surely Premiership players must be getting close to refusing to playing against him?
