Apparently bit an Italian player.

First Ajax, then Ivanovic now this.

Surely he shouldn't be allowed to play for his country if he is capable of doing this again?

Perhaps Liverpool included a no biting clause when they renegotiated his contract. Although I bet they didn't.

He dives more than Tom Daley according to DS1(19) who watches more football than anything else.

londonrach · 25/06/2014 09:37

Sorry not a footballer watcher but dives have they got swimming pools in football games now! Gives a new meaning to the offsite rule! Grin.

TheXxed · 25/06/2014 09:38

Grin at dives more than Tom Daley.

There are SOME others who are just as bad. But it's not most of them. Some forwards are annoyingly steady on their feet even when subjected to attention that would have others rolling round on the floor!

I'm not sure most LFC fans would regard a manyoo fan as unbiased incidentally! Grin I'm not a season ticket holder at one of LFC's traditional rivals (although many LFC fans really hate my club because we have done better than them in the last few years. Not this year). Which, I suppose, if part of why they hate manyoo too (although there is also a local historical rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester going back to the days of the industrial revolution).

HercShipwright · 25/06/2014 09:41

Many players go down easily (many don't). But Suarez is niggly, he fouls as much as he is fouled, and he is mouthy, and he tries to get others sent off. Not a nice man. Even without the biting.

TheFairyCaravan · 25/06/2014 09:44

No, he's not the only diver, but he does dive more than a lot of other players.

Like my mum used to say "if you can't play nicely, you shouldn't play at all!"

Frontier · 25/06/2014 09:49

I've just read a depressing article that suggests that he will actually be more attractive to Barcelona et al if he gets a long ban. It seems he can only be banned from international football and from the clubs' POV, a player with world class talent who won't be missing or injured in Internationals for the foreseeable future would be a brilliant boon. It could even increase his tf value.

HercShipwright · 25/06/2014 09:51

Anyway, it's irrelevant whether he is the only diver. Or not the only diver. He is the only diver who has bitten opponents on the field of play. He's the only diver who has bitten opponents twice on the field of play. He's the only diver who has bitten opponents 3 times on the field of play. And he's the only diver who has bitten opponents 3 times on the field of play and been done for racist comments also on the field of play.

He should be banned for life.

If FIFA don't take action against him they are showing other players that they can get away with anything. Footballers are role models and this is a great chance for the main international ruling body to punish unacceptable behaviour.

Personally I think he should be banned for life or have his teeth removed

HercShipwright · 25/06/2014 09:52

I haven't criticized him for going down, I've criticized him for the way he behaves before and after. He niggles and he tries to get people sent off.

BeCool · 25/06/2014 09:54

Ban him?

They are planning on paying him more than ever aren't they? Confused
Banning him might interfere with his ability to play football.

Somethings this sport really sucks.

I think Prince William should personally ban him from English football.

BettyBolognese · 25/06/2014 09:59

According to DM so not necessarily correct... 'Fifa's rules state that any ban could apply to all football matches - both international and domestic.'

HercShipwright · 25/06/2014 10:00

How often do you go to football (as opposed to watching on TV)? His gamesmanship IS worse than many other players. Most other players. I've seen him playing several times. He also directs comments (probably not nice ones) at supporters and ball boys.

My point is, and always was, that the people saying 'he was so much better last season' are kidding themselves or seeking to kid others. He looked on the edge most of the time. The psychologist didn't work, if he was even involved. Liverpool did nothing to address the problem and the game is now reaping what Liverpool sowed when they didn't sack him after he bit ivanovich.

girliefriend · 25/06/2014 10:03

Been thinking about this, why can't the footballer he bit press charges for assault?

If someone bit me that's what I would do, why isn't it a police matter? Fifa are corrupt so wouldn't trust them to make a fair decision.

BettyBolognese · 25/06/2014 10:03

And he is the dirtiest player in the premiership, he has a shitty attitude.

Yes diving, pretending to be injured are unfortunately part of football... But he is exceptional at all of that plus some!

I'm not sure about that Betty, most of the commentators seem to think FIFA can only ban him from internationals but there are one or two who've said it could also affect domestic games. I can't think of any precedent for it though.

Would be very interesting if he was banned from all matches for any length of time. 27 now, 2 years without playing, I doubt he'd ever play again, which would make him worthless and Liverpool would incur a huge financial loss. Might make them and others think twice about supporting a "loose cannon" in future? Or would they be insured against such an eventuality?

HercShipwright · 25/06/2014 11:17

But, chunderella you were the one who suggested that this season he had been better. And I was the one who pointed out that 'not biting' is a pretty low place to set the bar. This is exactly the narrative the LFC fans are trying to spin though - that he was a reformed character because he didn't chomp on any players last season (he didn't even play the whole season!) and so he should just 'get more help'. No. It's done. He should be banned.

Frontier I don't think Liverpool would have been able to get insurance against Suarez acting like an animal since his first offence was before they signed him.
