Apparently bit an Italian player.

First Ajax, then Ivanovic now this.

Surely he shouldn't be allowed to play for his country if he is capable of doing this again?

I hope it is in the remit of the FA. No reason why they can't have a rule that allows them to ban their clubs from fielding a particular player for misconduct on the field, regardless of whether the field is in England. Just as I expect the Uruguayan FA can prevent someone from playing for Montevideo.

AnnaLegovah · 24/06/2014 23:11

I've already told you its not, toad. I'll say it again - FIFA can ban anyone playing anywhere so its down to them to ban him. Why are you so insistent that the FA get involved when it doesnt involve an English player during an English game or on English soil? Thats what Fifa are for! Hmm

ilovesooty · 24/06/2014 23:19

I see Suarez says: "These things happen in the box. I got a blow to the eye"

I think, given the footage of the incident, he'll have to do better than that.

Nomama · 24/06/2014 23:23

Anna is right, toad. This one is FIFAs mess. The FA have nothing to do with International players playing for their home country. Their remit is purely home based.

The most they could do is support Liverpool in any internal decisions they come to. They would supply lawyers to check the rules and confirm the legality of any home based punitive actions.

mousmous · 24/06/2014 23:26

it shoudn't be up to the fifa.
the police should pick him up for questionng and charging and put him in front of a judge.

Toadinthehole · 24/06/2014 23:27

(Shrug)

The talk I've seen is that FIFA can impose a maximum two year ban, but it seems to apply to international football.

passmethewineplease · 24/06/2014 23:28

If he got a blow to the eye then why on earth was he holding his teeth? Confused

Nomama · 24/06/2014 23:29

They could, mousmous. Conduct on the pitch hasn't been protected for donkey's years. But it is unlikely they will make this a trial case, it is too trivial, as repulsive as it is 'Ooh judge he bit me' isn't serious enough

They might for jumping on a leg/arm and deliberately inflicting serious damage.

Nomama · 24/06/2014 23:29

Pass, the other thread has this

Maybe it was his eye tooth!

nancy75 · 24/06/2014 23:30

I think it is very unlikely that the Brazilian police are going to arrest him!

In this country sportsmen can be arrested for assault on the pitch although it doesn't happen very often, I doubt if any of us know what the law on it is in Brazil

nancy75 · 24/06/2014 23:32

Nomama - that is the law here not in Brazil

mousmous · 24/06/2014 23:34

does anyone know the law in brasil?
tempted to call the 101 equivalent to report this assault

Nomama · 24/06/2014 23:35

Oddly, despite my FIFA/FA comments, that hadn't crossed my mind - Brazil, their laws Blush

But I doubt they'd find it to their advantage to arrest him.

nancy75 · 24/06/2014 23:36

It would be a massive story if they arrested him and would totally overshadow the whole word cup - it's never going to happen!

Toadinthehole · 24/06/2014 23:38

Just imagine all the complaints of bias if the Brazilian state did prosecute during the tournament. No way would it happen.

WildThong · 24/06/2014 23:40

Wouldn't it be great if Barcelona called off the proposed transfer and made it clear why.
About time the game claimed back some integrity.

Nomama · 24/06/2014 23:50

Fuck off! Then we'd have to keep him til the end of his sodding contract! Or pay the prima donna off!

Oh! Erm... yes. Integrity, integrity. Hear, hear Smile

Toadinthehole · 24/06/2014 23:54

Suarez is leaving the Prem?

Good. wonder what would have happened if he'd tried to bite Joey Barton

Nomama · 25/06/2014 00:12

Barton vs Suarez.... no contest. Barton has family with form too! Then again, he is old and trying, somewhat desperately to prove he has reformed. Someone should have told him he'd find punditry and sponsorship a bit tricky, but QPR don't seem to mind.

Tandy, Dabo, Pedersen might, and they are just the high profile cases - his 12 match ban dwarfed Suarez's 8 matcher. His career, from junior on, has been littered with violence on and off the pitch. The beautiful game has not saved him...

We could start a new version of Fantasy Football.... Yob-ball anyone?

Toadinthehole · 25/06/2014 00:33

Probably Barton would turn around and lamp the wrong bloke, thus earning bonus points in fantasy yob ball.

Much as it pains me to say it, Barton has actually been quite good for QPR.

ComposHat · 25/06/2014 00:54

If he tried to bite Joey Barton it'd be a bit like the theme tune to the Itchy and Scratchy show:

They fight,
They bite,
They bite and fight and bite,
bite, bite,bite,
fight, fight, fight,

Really nomama dragging his half brother (who he has never lived with) into it is pretty low. He isn't responsible for his half-brother's actions any more than you are?

slithytove · 25/06/2014 00:58

Can the guy he bit get him prosecuted for assault?

Quite a vocal liverpool fan here. Have seen it, and yes it does look like biting, and of course i'll admit that. Liverpool fans arent blind!

Perhaps he'll be on question time soon with joey 'put a fag out in someones eye' barton?

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 25/06/2014 08:39

Haha, didnt see the above comments on jb before i mentioned him Grin
