To be pissed off with people in petrol station...

zeezeek · 20/06/2014 21:19

I probably am. I usually am. But here goes.

Was in the petrol station this morning as DH borrowed my car, used all the petrol and didn't bother to replace it despite now being retired and having more time than me, the git. I was on my way to a seriously important meeting and got stuck behind a variety of people who:

  • decided that they had to do their week's shopping in the petrol station shop
  • then had to check their messages and reply to them before starting the engine
  • had to sort out/fuss over young children (ok I have sympathy and understanding with this one!)
  • had to re-apply lippy and other make up
  • just seemed to take so fucking long to get in their car, get it started and get the fuck out of the petrol station.

It annoyed me.

YANBU - I hate scenarios like this!

Go to the stations where you pay at the pump Grin

Cheesymonster · 20/06/2014 21:26

I was queuing for a pay at pump one recently. The woman in front of me finished with the pump and paid, got in her car then she and her friend sat in their car texting on their phones for a good few minutes before I finally beeped and they moved off. So pay at pump stations aren't much better.

Buchanon08 · 20/06/2014 21:43

I was behind a tractor recently...£195 of diesel! (Took a while!)

zeezeek · 20/06/2014 21:53

I go to pay at the pump whenever possible - but the nearest one is a few miles and I wasn't sure I had enough fuel to even get there bloody, buggering bastard DH!.

Glad this isn't just me being a stroppy cow.

Irate children needing calming down is reasonable, everything else that holds me up is not!!

YANBU. There needs to be signs up telling people that if they need to buy shopping in addition to petrol, to move their car away from the blessed pump and into a PARKING bay. They are needed because so many people seem ignorant/totally unbothered, about the stack of cars queuing up behind them waiting for them to bugger off and let them get some petrol.

And texting/phoning once back in car - also selfish and ignorant. Do it somewhere else because unless there's been an accident or other emergency, it can't be so important that you need to hold up the people stuck behind you.

libertytrainers · 20/06/2014 21:55

i was driving towards an empy pump the other day and another driver came around from the front to use the pump, was lucky we didn't bump into each other. some people are twats

treaclesoda · 20/06/2014 21:59

Yanbu.

See also - people who park in the car wash before going into the shop and doing a half hour shop, finished off by buying the token for the car wash. Wish I'd rammed the bloody car out of the way.

GemmaTeller · 20/06/2014 22:03

When the petrol station is busy and drivers pulling in hang about at the entrance causing a cue back up the road -

pick a pump, join the queue and be patient fuckers

Percephone · 20/06/2014 22:05

Some idiot was before me at the pay at pump then went into the shop to pay and leisurely browse the aisles. Why go to pay at pump when you're not going to, you know, pay at pump?

I eventually got the rage and went to the pump in front of him when it was free. He then came out and started screaming at me that he wouldn't be able to get out! Tosser.

This happened to me the other day. Pulled up at the carwash and there's an empty car sitting there. Five minutes later he casually strolls back with the token, selfish twat.

TheDetective · 21/06/2014 22:12

People shouldn't be using phones in petrol courts anyway FFS!

But no, YANBU! Just move already fuckers!

YellowStripe · 21/06/2014 22:19

I filled up, then moved to a bay as I knew I was getting a few bits of shopping too. When I finally got to the till, the cashier called the manager to let him know I hadn't actually done a runner!

As an aside, my local Tesco has fancy new pumps where you can type in how much fuel (£s or litres) you want Smile

mrstiggy · 21/06/2014 22:22

I had a bloke once who wandered back to his car (after a fair while in the shop) with what seems to have been one of those hot sandwiches that some petrol stations sell. He then got in his car and started to eat the damn thing! I mean seriously, who makes people queue in a busy petrol station whilst they have their bloody breakfast! He even had the nerve to shoot me daggers in the mirror when I beeped at him after waiting a few minutes then clocking on to what he was doing.

WooWooOwl · 22/06/2014 00:07

I think YABU, your anger is misplaced.

People use petrol stations as somewhere to stop and get a short break from driving, or as a safe place to stop and do whatever they need to do with their phones.

If petrol station owners didn't want people to take their time, they would sell a wide range of groceries and magazines and coffee and such like.

ExitPursuedByAKoalaBear · 22/06/2014 00:10

You clearly have not developed the death stare.

BillnTedsMostFeministAdventure · 22/06/2014 00:20

If you haven't already paid for the petrol, I thought it didn'tet someone else use the pump whilst you shop, even if you pull forwards?

TrustMeImLying · 22/06/2014 00:25

woowoo I don't know one person who stops on a petrol forecourt for a break from driving, services yes, but not a forecourt!

Also phones on a forecourt are a big no no. It is certainly not the place to be facebooking/texting/making calls. That is what a parking space/layby is for.

scotchtikidoll · 22/06/2014 00:25

Haha only on the infamous AIBU would someone feel the need to justify why they were getting petrol at the beginning of their OP.

Well played, OP. You have probably avoided tossers posting the likes of 'You're part of the problem' and 'If you had an important meeting why wasn't your tank full'

Selks · 22/06/2014 00:28

WooWoo, all that stuff is fine but to do that stuff you park your car away from the petrol pumps!

mumteedum · 22/06/2014 09:10

With you Gemma. Where poss I just drive round them and do it properly! I'm not going to queue in the road, on a roundabout just cos they're dithering!

Wellwellwell3holesintheground · 22/06/2014 09:46

People who won't use pumps on the opposite side to their petrol cap. THEY ARE ALL LONG ENOUGH.

persepolis123 · 22/06/2014 09:56

I have tried using a pump the opposite side to my petrol cap before and it wouldn't stretch far enough. Now I'm too embarrassed to try again.

SquinkiesRule · 22/06/2014 10:55

This is the reason I refuse to buy petrol in Tesco near us. So freaking slow!
I drive out of my way to Asda, all pay at the pump. no shop to browse, it's so much quicker.

PunkrockerGirl · 22/06/2014 11:33

YANBU. This gives me the absolute rage. Pay for the petrol, get in the car and just sod off out the way! Pay at the pump doesn't stop people dithering about in their cars after they've filled up.

Wellwellwell3holesintheground · 22/06/2014 12:37

Persepolis - line up the back of the car with the pump so it's a straight line. You can do it!
