To be pissed off with people in petrol station...

I probably am. I usually am. But here goes.

Was in the petrol station this morning as DH borrowed my car, used all the petrol and didn't bother to replace it despite now being retired and having more time than me, the git. I was on my way to a seriously important meeting and got stuck behind a variety of people who:

  • decided that they had to do their week's shopping in the petrol station shop
  • then had to check their messages and reply to them before starting the engine
  • had to sort out/fuss over young children (ok I have sympathy and understanding with this one!)
  • had to re-apply lippy and other make up
  • just seemed to take so fucking long to get in their car, get it started and get the fuck out of the petrol station.

It annoyed me.

It was one of those very wide stations with plenty of room between the pumps - why on earth she didn't just drive round us and use the pump in front

Tanith

But why on earth wouldn't your dh pull forward, surely that is polite?

BillnTedsMostFeministAdventure · 23/06/2014 09:46

Because until said DH had paid, the pump probably wouldn't be released to give more fuel and then he would have been blocking a pump that worked, surely?

kelper · 23/06/2014 09:51

I used to work at a tesco express with a petrol station attached, each pump would take two lots of fuel iyswim? Handy for lorries as it would only release 100L of fuel per go. We were near the M25 and got loads of drive offs, never had them taken out of our wages though.
A petrol station near me has a Subway attached now; i pulled up behind a car and waited…. and waited….. and in the mean time other cars came in, filled up and went, then this idiot saunters out of the subway chattering to his mate. I realise i should have just gone to another pump, but every time i went to do that someone else drove in!! And what makes it more annoying is there's a massive sign on the pumps advising drivers to pay for fuel, then move their car if they want to use Subway.
Will now be avoiding this fuel station!

slartybartfast · 23/06/2014 09:51

i would have pissed you off too,
i always used to make a rolly when i got back in the car after paying for petrol.
and texting, well you can't do that while you are driving.

the shopping is annoying, there must be ways round that, if they are going to shop they should pay for petrol before shopping, or something, or make space in the garage for such occurrences.

Summerbreezing · 23/06/2014 09:56

YANBU OP. I just don't understand people who know that there are cars queueing behind theirs at the pump and don't make any effort to get a move on. Even after they've spent twenty minutes choosing what flavour of crisps they want and rooting for their credit card and getting cash back they just saunter slowly back to their car and take their time settling in before bloody MOVING.

It's inconsiderate.

"I used to work at a tesco express with a petrol station attached, each pump would take two lots of fuel iyswim? "

If this means someone else could go on before the first person had paid, I think there should be signs up explaining this!

gellicleCat · 23/06/2014 10:06

I aways nip into Liverpool for my petrol. The people are soo considerate, they very rarely hang around after they have filled up

I got lambasted on a thread for making scouse jokes.

footballagain · 23/06/2014 10:40

What is with this trend for mini bloody supermarkets in petrol stations anyway?

The one near us just re-opened with a fucking M&S store in it. With 3 parking spaces. That you can't reverse out of when there are other people buying, you guess it, FUEL.

It's a joke.

footballagain - I use our local "M&S petrol station" all the time for food. Our two local supermarkets close at 8 on a Sunday so the petrol station is so handy. Or for when I have the kids and just want to run in for a couple of things. Love it.
