So the sports day thread where the child was victimised for being slow and adopted has been pulled and seems not to be genuine. Why would someone do that?

What was the fake nurse user name usual?

expatinscotland · 13/06/2014 16:48

There are a lot of fake solicitors and fake doctors out there, too.

And fake benefits claimants.

expatinscotland · 13/06/2014 16:48

NurseryWursery

TheCunkOfPhilomena · 13/06/2014 16:50

I agree with JimBob, if we're talking about the same thread... If so, I reported a couple of times. I hate seeing people being taken advantage of, bloody emotionally parasitic trolls.

sillystring · 13/06/2014 16:51

Thanks, I remember them!

TheFairyCaravan · 13/06/2014 16:54

A poster can have a long posting history and still be a troll.

MoominAndMiniMoom · 13/06/2014 16:58

NurseyWursey was a fake? :(

Which medical thread? Hmm

expatinscotland · 13/06/2014 16:58

You are, Cunk. Wink

Quangle · 13/06/2014 16:58

Must admit I read that one and thought "who actually talks like that unless they are unhinged" so I did have a big flashing sign in my head saying "nope". I just didn't read on.

MoominAndMiniMoom · 13/06/2014 17:00

Ah I think I know which medical one. Some of the developments seemed a bit unrealistic, but if it's the fast-pacedness and the way everything suddenly changed, I believed that because it's happened to a relative of DP's.

MrsMaturin · 13/06/2014 17:01

If you're trolling for the kick you get from attention then chances are you will have a long history. It doesn't mean your posts ring true.

For the trolls amongst us forever more and doubtless reading this - you're not as clever as you think you are.

clam · 13/06/2014 17:03

I spotted this sports day one as a wind-up straightaway and had to grapple with myself as to whether to post "what a load of bollocks" or do the decent thing and report it.

AmyMumsnet · 13/06/2014 17:17

Hi all,

As you've guessed by now, we deleted the thread mentioned in the OP because we had reason to believe the OP wasn't genuine.

Having said that, we'd really appreciate it if you could avoid discussing other threads, particularly ones that haven't been deleted, as then it starts to stray into trollhunting territory.

Hope you're all enjoying Wine/Brew o clock wherever you are.

Ah expat, thank you.

Quangle it was both those things- the actual events that took place plus the amount of time in which they happened.

emotionsecho · 13/06/2014 17:38

Sometimes the trolls are really subtle at the start of the thread and I am always in awe of the long-term posters who suss them out almost immediately, takes me a while into the thread before I think "Hmm". The only ones I ever spot are the really obvious ones, there was a disgusting one last night which you could just tell from the first post where it was heading. Mostly I just look to those who have a far better trolldar to give me a hint.

What with the large number of very nice, kind people, some of whom are pretty lonely and isolated AND the very easy namechanging you mean Usual?

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 13/06/2014 18:07

That plus the fact that the site is unmodulated Mrs I would guess.

wannaBe · 13/06/2014 18:10

I am a generally suspicious person. But sometimes I report a thread and then wonder whether I am the only one who thinks it's suspicious.

There was a recent one which I thought was very odd from the outset but lots of support etc given but op was a regular and now it's reached a conclusion so I can't quite see where it might go. Yet I'm convinced it isn't real....

MrsMaturin · 13/06/2014 18:12

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck and you don't normally see ducks everywhere you look but you're seeing something with feathers and a bloody big beak then chances are it IS a duck.

I would say tho, i do worry sometimes that i may sound like a troll. I have a pretty 'out there' family and a lot of shite things seem to happen to me. There are often times i think i could do with some MN support, but wont post because people may think i'm an attention seeking emotional leech. So i do think there is a fine line when judging trolling.

MorrisZapp · 13/06/2014 18:32

How anybody thought that thread was genuine is a mystery. I'm staggered by the stuff that gets believed on here, and the rush to applaud/ support people who have so blatantly made up a load of pish.
