So the sports day thread where the child was victimised for being slow and adopted has been pulled and seems not to be genuine. Why would someone do that?

OP posts:
sillystring · 13/06/2014 14:41

The medical one was started by a very well established MNetter so I don't think it's hairy handed.

emms1981 · 13/06/2014 14:46

Hmmm. I was expecting a different thread to be revealed as troll-ery. Or perhaps I'm just a massive coww for suspecting it.

I think I know the one you mean and from what Ive seen I find it very suspicious too

sillystring · 13/06/2014 14:49

Hint?

ILoveWooly · 13/06/2014 15:02

Are we talking medical but also bed related? If so I have been sucked in again!

Have been on here almost 5 years, perhaps my troll-dar will kick in soon!!!

CloverHeart · 13/06/2014 15:04

I read it and reported. I could see everyone was being duped and went with gut feeling!!!!!

There are a couple of really suspicious threads at the moment...... I don't like it!

TwinkleTwinkleStarlight · 13/06/2014 15:07

Oh yes I think I know which one you mean Wink

TurtleyAmazing · 13/06/2014 15:13

I haven't seen this medical thread, am i missing out?

NickiFury · 13/06/2014 15:16

In my experience people seeking real help for tragedies and painful issues tend not to do it on AIBU. They usually use the relevant boards because they are seeking actual help and support from those who have been through it, not loads of traffic and a big fat payout

Funnyfoot · 13/06/2014 15:25

There is another one on the go in pregnancy. I have reported it but it's still there.

MrsKoala · 13/06/2014 15:25

Oh i'm rubbish at spotting the troll threads usually, but i read that and when i read they called her 'common' i thought nah this is total BS.

I didn't read the other troll threads referred to here but i probably would have believed them. I find it hard to comprehend that people make up such upsetting bollocks for the purpose of sympathy gathering.

Mrsjayy · 13/06/2014 15:30

Im learning to spot the bs it has taken me a while I probably still get taken In, the trick is to think really somebody said that then ignore the thread why do they do it boredom , for a laugh some folk are twisted feckers

Mrsjayy · 13/06/2014 15:34

I dd watches cat fish and people make up all sorts to draw people In its bonkers the lengths they go to

somedizzywhore1804 · 13/06/2014 15:41

Blush What a weird thing to make up!

MrsKoala · 13/06/2014 15:43

What's 'cat fish' MrsJayy - i know there was a film of that name about someone befriending some little girl on the internet. I never saw it tho as the ad creeped me out enough.

Mrsjayy · 13/06/2014 15:44

To a troll it had all tgs righf things disability posh cliquey mums pta everything In one handy post,

whatsthatcomingoverthehill · 13/06/2014 15:45

Sadly all too common. A discussion board I was involved with had someone who constructed a persona over a matter of years, and then said they were dying. Cue outpourings of emotion, offers of practical support etc etc. But it was all made up. I have no idea why someone would invest so much time in that, other than having 'issues'.

There is no way to prevent this sort of thing happening. But I'd rather people are kind and occasionally be tricked than not trusting anyone ever. The case above didn't reflect badly on those taken in, quite the opposite.

TurtleyAmazing · 13/06/2014 15:46

Isn't catfish a documentary about a girl who pretended to be like four different guys on the internet? even met up with a girl 'he' was dating and took her virginity with a dildo?

lljkk · 13/06/2014 15:47

That's quite reassuring the adopted-sportsday thread wasn't genuine.
Fibbers must enjoy the attention they get, I suppose.

Mrsjayy · 13/06/2014 15:47

Its on mtv its the same guy who was in the film he was duped by a middle aged woman thinking she was a young woman, anyway the programma has folk in relationships online and this guy investigates them, it is bonkers what they do make up fake profiles etc

TwinkleTwinkleStarlight · 13/06/2014 15:49

Turtle I think it has turned into series (I might be mixing it up with something else though)

TwinkleTwinkleStarlight · 13/06/2014 15:49

Oppps x posts

cardamomginger · 13/06/2014 15:51

Catfish is a great film. It starts out as someone contacting a little girl because he has come across her amazing artwork and is interested in what she is producing. But it becomes much more than that. It's a bit creepy, I guess. But the little girl aspect of it has nothing to do with the creepiness. And the guy who does the initial contacting does nothing wrong.

Don't want to say any more, as I don't want to spoil it for anyone!

Nerf · 13/06/2014 15:57

This type of thread (sports day crapola) are either made up bollocks or stupid fishing for compliments.
Eg
I saw a small child fall over and I picked it up and looked for his mum. AIBU?
Oh op can I just say you are the most amazing lovely person
Oh OP my eyes are leaking just reading that
Etc etc etc

Just fucking say I did a nice thing today.

TurtleyAmazing · 13/06/2014 15:58

twinkle I think im talking about something completely different. This was about a female, not a male. I think she is actually in prison now. gemma barker i think her name is.

sillystring · 13/06/2014 16:01

The Gemma Barker case was on Channel 4 about 2 years ago as a one off documentary. She didn't appear in it at all, but one of the teenage girls she duped was and she didn't do herself any favours. She came across as a really sad little girl who actually had "sex" with someone she hadn't spoken to in RL, they only communicated by text, even when they were sitting right next to each other.
