To be annoyed to learn a certain thread was not genuine.

So the sports day thread where the child was victimised for being slow and adopted has been pulled and seems not to be genuine. Why would someone do that?

OP posts:
MoonRover · 13/06/2014 12:36

Shock at that expat

To me, that's someone who's not well. What can be going on in someone's head to enjoy that, or to need to do that to fulfill some un-met need? Or are some people just pathological attention-seekers with no self awareness and no ability to stop their fantasies escalating?

Ugh.

Once upon an interweb, people used to post about sitting pissers and cat vs football. Now it's hideous horrific things and angry complaints about some mad bollocks that is highly unlikely to have happened.

I do think some horrible people do it deliberately to con money out of kind hearted, generous mumsnetters though.

wt fuck

madbutnormal · 13/06/2014 12:37

Op may have mh issues

sillystring · 13/06/2014 12:38

I sussed the sports day one right away (Smug Doug). It was the "you're common" remark that gave it away for me.

expatinscotland · 13/06/2014 12:38

It's not always mental health issues. So e people are just complete dicks.

Amilionmilesaway · 13/06/2014 12:39

I've been on other boards where regular posters have been uncovered as trolls after YEARS of posting. In fact, one was uncovered as a serial troll, with multiple identities across on at least 2 boards. Posting style is a real giveaway once you have sussed someone and they simply can't help themselves come back under another identity, and usually have a theme too. Once you've spotted them once, you will see them again and again.

I'm fascinated by them to be honest. Why would you do that?

Anyway, I'm only a member of this board now and I don't particularly want to build bonds with anyone for that reason. I'm happy to chip in if I think I can help or give my opinion if I've got a bit of time on my hands but that is the extent of my involvement. I change name very few days/weeks precisely to prevent any bonding.

I work in psychotherapy and go with the "there's nothing as queer as folk" method because of everything I've heard, so consequently I'm rubbish at seeing make belief, I believe it all!

ILoveWooly · 13/06/2014 12:43

I used to think my bullshit radar was good... Not these days!

mrstigs · 13/06/2014 12:45

Yeah I figured that was fake too. Generally I don't care that much if they are fake or not so tend to reply even if I'm a little bit Hmm at the post, I come on here to chat to other people and can do that even if the situation we are discussing is entirely fictional. I do worry a little about what's going on in the OPs head though to feel the need to fake themselves.
Abusive shit stirring rubbish or trying to fleece people is a different matter of course.

TwinkleTwinkleStarlight · 13/06/2014 12:46

I used to think my bullshit radar was good... Not these days!

Me too Sad perhaps people have just become more sneaky at the way they so it?

ILoveWooly · 13/06/2014 13:06

Perhaps twinkle twinkle. Day to day life is manic enough without making up another one!

areyoubeingserviced · 13/06/2014 13:10

It was so ridiculous. , I knew it was a load of bollocks

Rideronthestorm · 13/06/2014 13:11

Obvious troll, I thought, too many "Bingo" words.

sillystring · 13/06/2014 13:11

She did that famous thing of drip feeding, leaving the posts to go wild and promising updates that never came. Clear sign of trolling.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 13/06/2014 13:14

All of a sudden you wake up one day and your troll-dar works, it's amazing. For the longest time I could never spot a troll, always believed everything, was amazed at long term posters who could just pick up on it. Now I'm pretty good at it. I will think "this is bollocks" but still post something non-commital or slightly positive on the thread, just to see if I am right for the deletion message

Groovee · 13/06/2014 13:18

Sad I thought it was genuine because of my experience with a similar mother.

Blindlyshining · 13/06/2014 13:22

My personal favourites are the really long winded retellings of totally unprompted judgey/aggressive literally unbelievable comments and how the OP managed to make a reasoned, yet pithy comeback which showed the person exactly how wrong they were and how superior the OP was and then the OP asks "WIBU to do this?" And sits back and waits for applause.

JimBobplusasprog · 13/06/2014 13:26

Hmmm. I was expecting a different thread to be revealed as troll-ery. Or perhaps I'm just a massive coww for suspecting it.

BigRedBall · 13/06/2014 13:27

I like the funny troll threads that don't mean any harm. Like the garlic up the bum. That was hilarious!

Bifauxnen · 13/06/2014 13:27

Half the threads on here at the moment seem like bollocks to me. The no troll hunting rules need to be relaxed for a bit I think. People should be allowed to point out obvious bullshit without being deleted.

Blindlyshining · 13/06/2014 13:27

Ooooooh Jimbob you've got me curious now!

AntoinetteCosway · 13/06/2014 13:57

I've been here for years and years and I can't spot a troll for toffee.

Olbas · 13/06/2014 13:58

I wonder if its the same one I have been thinking Jim. I hate myself for it.....but?

TurtleyAmazing · 13/06/2014 14:10

I'm relatively new so of course i haven't seen any of the threads mentioned so far.

I dont understand why people lie about such things. I mean what do they gain out of it?

Jim i think i might know what thread you're talking about... can you give us a hint? Grin

JimBobplusasprog · 13/06/2014 14:30

Fast paced medical drama with unusual plot details.

TurtleyAmazing · 13/06/2014 14:32

Oh no that's not the one i was thinking.

damn it! even more curious now!
