To be absolutely steaming about having a free copy of the Sun delivered by Royal Mail?

I know I am not BU. I am going to post it back to Sun HQ in an unstamped envelope ( will probably tear it into pieces before I do). Who will join me?

LadyNexus - I have received the same reply from Royal Mail, along with a 'warning' that if I choose to opt out then I risk missing out on important communication from central and local government Hmm

ChubbyKitty · 09/06/2014 12:13

Ugh. Yanbu. I've liked the fb page. I was going to line the cat tray when I got mine until I saw a PP say it was a mini version. Then again she's very pernickety and probably wouldn't use it..

LadyNexus · 09/06/2014 12:19

Yes I got that 'warning' too. Still trying to figure out what they mean exactly.

MrsMikeDelfino · 09/06/2014 12:47

Gawd. Just throw it in the recycling if you're that disgusted. No-one's putting a gun to your head and forcing you to read it. Hmm

Sparklingbrook · 09/06/2014 12:49

Have you read the thread MrsM? It is so much more than that.

RebeccaMumsnet · 09/06/2014 12:52

Hi all,

Can we point you in this direction for more on the subject , specifically in relation to #nomorepagethree .

LadyNexus · 09/06/2014 12:58

As much as I support no more page three it is not the only issue here.

Also the phrase 'keep it up' seems a bit too supportive of the sun for me. I'm not praising or encouraging them to do what they should have done years ago.

MrsMikeDelfino · 09/06/2014 12:58

I understand people boycott the Sun in Liverpool because of the lies printed about the fans (which is fair enough, as what was said about the fans were disgusting.)
However, I still think if you feel that strongly about it, just chuck it in the bin. Or use it as toilet paper. Whatever. No-one's forcing you to read it.
Should the people who aren't boycotting the Sun miss out on a free copy because other people say it should be boycotted and not read?
No. As everyone's entitled to read whatever paper they like. No likey, no read.

emms1981 · 09/06/2014 12:59

I haven't had one? Could have given it to my brother for when he resprays his car

DAMN IT!!!!

I sure this and thought

If I get one I shall be delighted. The Sun is very absorbent as I have discovered and is ideal for lining the guinea pigs' house. And what better use for The Sun than to be peed on?

Only to realise that a) they are small copies which are useless and b) our postcode is on the list which won't be receiving it!

Gutted.

On the serious side though, I don't think any national newspapers should be allowed to distributed in this way as they are all politically aligned in someway and have tremendous influence. Local newspapers simply don't have the same power. I would be very pissed at getting other nationals through my door. For me Hillsborough is just another reason rather than the main reason. Given the xenophobic stuff that The Sun (and other newspapers) have put on their front pages before with reference to the World Cup I can't help but feel uncomfortable about it all.

AnnaLegovah · 09/06/2014 13:04

Why would anybody want even a free copy of the Sun? Confused

SelectAUserName · 09/06/2014 13:04

Well said.

Guitargirl · 09/06/2014 13:04

I also think 'keep it up' is a bit naive to be honest. The whole free copy of the Sun without page three smacks a bit of 'free' porn which encourages punters to subscribe to get to the 'good stuff'.

AnyaKnowIt · 09/06/2014 13:05

Arf at reading the sun

Sirzy · 09/06/2014 13:07

If they really wanted to give a free copy of it then send it to shops and tell people they can pick up their free copy from them.

Don't send it to everyones house when a big chunk of people have - understandble problems with it - and don't make postmen have a) more work and b) have to do something that a lot of them don't agree with for moral reasons.

I think the fact local posties are willing to strike says a lot about feeling toward the sun is certain areas

""It's very convenient to make 'The Sun' the bogeyman for everything wrong with the Hillsborough reporting, but that doesn't make it accurate.""

You would have to have experience of how the Sun hounded the families, reported what they knew to be lies and continued with the level of bile directed at Liverpool, yes they were up Thatchers arse, but no apology can make up for their actions, against the whole of Liverpool.

The Royal Mail know how out of order they are, otherwise they would of included Liverpool in this. So it is recognised by another National Business how appalling the behaviour of the Sun Newspaper was.

There would of been a mass of arses getting wiped and them being hand delivered back to the Royal Mail, by hoards of protesters.

The Hillsborough cover up was worse than the Stephen Lawrence case, no excuses should be made. The Sun Newspaper was privy to information that other members of the press weren't. But I don't want to derail the thread.

I also took part in the campaign to ban Page three.

Sirzy · 09/06/2014 13:10

It wasn't only people from Liverpool who were effected by what happened at Hilsbourgh though

Sparklingbrook · 09/06/2014 13:15

i think letting everyone have a free copy from the shop would have been the way to go.

But, this won't be a proper copy of that day's paper will it? It couldn't be, as it would be too late.

I am now imagining a crappy little pamphlet wrapped in cellophane.

Birdsgottafly · 09/06/2014 13:15

""Just send it back if you don't want it. Or recycle it. To petition to have the whole thing stopped DOES smack of 'everyone has to do it my way or no way' and I'm never comfortable with that.""

Who decided that it was acceptable for right wing sexist propaganda (who are also proven liars) peddlers to be given this service and be able to invade people's homes in this manner?

Make them available via shops.

Birdsgottafly · 09/06/2014 13:17

""It wasn't only people from Liverpool who were effected by what happened at Hilsbourgh though""

No it wasn't, but they know they would of gotten a organised mass protest, that would of been interesting, because the world would be watching the role of the Police in cobtain

Birdsgottafly · 09/06/2014 13:17

Sorry, containing it.

Crinkle77 · 09/06/2014 13:20

Just stick it in the recycling and forget about it.
