to wish children at school didn't bring sweets in for the whole class on the birthday

Dn seams to always be coming home with sweets, I just think it should be up to the parents to decide on these things, I would be livid. Should the school ban this?

OP posts:

I'm not getting involved with dn upbring, hense why I said I WOULD (if its my own).

I don't see why so many people are critising me for forward planning and thinking about these things in advance.*

Surely there are bigger things to worry about. Confused

We really need a Chill-Out-And-Have-A-Haribo emoticon ...

My DS's lower school stopped the birthday sweets because of someone like the OP wouldn't shut up about it - but once they get to big school all the joyless puritan prosletising in the world won't keep their PFB out of Greggs ... ( Evil cackle )

Love it :o

School dinner slop- problem
Too much homework -problem
Lack of differentiation -problem
Lunch box police- problem

Six haribo in a tiny bag for a little kids birthday -about as far removed from real problems as you get!!

candycoatedwaterdrops · 02/06/2014 10:43

Yes it is to the parent to decide if the child is allowed the sweets or to save them. This is not your child, so it's not really your business.

I'd be "livid" if my sister/SIL was looking after my child and posting judgey posts about their diet on a parenting site.

Sparklingbrook · 02/06/2014 11:00

I must ring DSIL and ask if her DD gets Haribo at school on birthdays. then i can get all livid on her behalf. Grin

I saw a child with an actual lolly yesterday, it was a Magnum, so choclate and everything! I punched the wall then had to go for a lie-down until the red rage subsided.

squoosh · 02/06/2014 11:08

OP aren't you the person who was shocked and dismayed at the idea of your niece eating a Kinder egg?

Get a life.

UsedtobeFeckless · 02/06/2014 11:08

Chocolate ... Still upset, shaking with fury and can't type ...

Talk about a storm in a teacup.

My DD2 has Prader-Willi Syndrome and has been on a diet since birth.

She can't have sweets so the teacher just hands them to me as the class are going home, whilst the rest of the class are being handed their sweets - if you don't want your child to have sweets then do the same.

If I can cope with that without becoming livid I'm sure you can too...

MistressDeeCee · 02/06/2014 12:19

Its fun for children, you can ration out the sweets throughout the year if you truly get so many. I don't see the issue, really. I don't suppose Id like it either..visions of tooth rot! But there are ways around it, aren't there. Dont dish all the sweets out at once. Simple

PrincessBabyCat · 02/06/2014 12:24

OP, if you had a child (and they didn't have a food intolerance) you would understand why a small treat at school would not be worth the hassle to get upset about. There's far bigger things to worry about.

RazzleDazzleEm · 02/06/2014 13:55

squoosh · 02/06/2014 13:56

Chippednailvarnish · 02/06/2014 13:57
