To hate the overused MN expression "Are you on glue?"

There's just something really horrible about it....rude and unnecessary.

It also smacks of someone trying to be smart and witty buy just trotting out a line they've been taught.

Equally irritating is "Did you mean to be so rude" because it's so overused and "This too shall pass." is also ANNOYING.

This too shall pass is actually a lovely saying but it's SO overused on here!

I'm sure the phrase was originally

"did you mean that to sound so rude?"

which has a different emphasis entirely - it's much less confrontational but a way of pointing out to someone they have gone a step too far, but giving them an opportunity to backtrack a bit. I'm sure some people will still just say 'yes I did' but in normal polite conversation it could be quite effective.

aquashiv · 30/05/2014 09:33

Seenn it once there are bigger annoyances. What do u expect though this is AIBU I think some times there is competitive rudeness.

MrsWinnibago · 30/05/2014 09:37

Usual there is a definite thread of "sameness" running through this site. We may all be different in terms of class, education, aspiration etc but the "sameness" comes of essentially wanting others to talk to...others who are also parents trying to make sense of things. I know some people use the site who are not parents but they come for the banter...which is good!

I hate "Are you on glue?" It was something people said when I was about 14.

Ages ago everyone on MN said farking but that phased out.

BelleateSebastian · 30/05/2014 12:26

I fucking love 'Are you on glue' reminds me of my yoof :)

..... I hate 'That doesn't work for me' - what sort of glue ridden twat says that in real life with a straight face!?

Piss boiling upsets me, but I'm not sure why.

Wow, just wow - makes me as cross as fuck.

It manages to be massively irritating and fucking patronising all at the same time.

I fucking hate it with a passion. When someone posts with this as their opening line I want to boil their head.

There, I feel much better now.

callamia · 30/05/2014 12:59

I hate 'no-no'. It makes me cringe.
It's so prissy.

Vintagejazz · 30/05/2014 13:18

I hate 'wow just wow'.

Also idiots who throw Passive Aggressive accusations around when they clearly haven't a clue what it means.

shakethetree · 30/05/2014 13:25

I've never seen it so it can't be that overused. It wouldn't bother me though. What really bothers me & makes me think 'who is this annoying person?' is people who spell words deliberately wrong like Luffs instead of Loves & stuff like that. & anyone who calls a thread a Fred should be executed imho.

SauvignonBlanche · 30/05/2014 13:25

It made me laugh on the Gluezilla thread.

Vintagejazz · 30/05/2014 13:25

Oh and people who call a thread 'mean minded'. It's such a holier than thou attitude usually used by people who can't actually come up with anything interesting or intelligent to counter the OP's viewpoint.

AKeyFox · 30/05/2014 13:37

yy

sillystring · 30/05/2014 13:37

"Are you on glue OP?" doesn't bother me as much as many of the others mentioned.

I too hate hate hate that stupid, twatty namechange disclaimer where people launch into "pom bears, naice ham, penis beaker". I suppose I should read "Classics" sometime but I've no desire to find out the origin of these stupid phrases.

Also hate "Wow. Just Wow". I always want to reply "Cunt. Just Cunt" or "Off. Just Fuck".

"Boils my piss" is just revolting.

"Biscuit". It makes no sense to me AT ALL. Even after someone explained it I was still Confused

"Get down to the grip shop" and "YAWN" are equally irritating.

...and many many more...

Vintagejazz · 30/05/2014 13:39

"Off. Just Fuck"

Grin Grin

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 30/05/2014 13:44

Wow, just wow is probably at the top of my shit list followed by my flabber is truly gasted

Fucking awful!

Vintagejazz · 30/05/2014 13:46

Also that sanctimonious instruction to 'walk in her shoes" when someone's having a moan about crying babies in restaurants or badly behaved kids in the shopping centre.

OHforDUCKScake · 30/05/2014 13:47

What made me cringe so hard I felt my arse slip through the back of the sofa, was when a woman came on here to tell a tale of her to-do with someone in town (or somewhere) about something (no idea what) and she came on just to tell everyone that she proudly said to her "Did you mean to be so rude?"

As far as I know, the recipient was well within her right to have responded the way she did and the 'did you mean to be so rude' was uncalled for.

But aside from that, the way she came on to explain to everyone how great she was to have reeled out an MN line.

Ergh.

Ubik1 · 30/05/2014 13:51

I love Gluezilla

Nancy66 · 30/05/2014 13:52

Most of my hated phrases have been mentioned.

'passive aggressive' horribly overused too (and usually in wrong context)

sillystring · 30/05/2014 14:06

Vintage. I agree with the "walk in her shoes" crap. Also "you don't know what's going on in her life..you're just seeing a snapshot" and here's the clincher "Could your judgey pants get up any higher?" Ugh.

I've seen this sort of garbage on threads when someone is asking if they're BU to intervene at someone screaming and spitting at a child and calling them a "fucking little cunt" in broad daylight in a crowded shopping centre.
