To hate the overused MN expression "Are you on glue?"

There's just something really horrible about it....rude and unnecessary.

It also smacks of someone trying to be smart and witty buy just trotting out a line they've been taught.

Equally irritating is "Did you mean to be so rude" because it's so overused and "This too shall pass." is also ANNOYING.

This too shall pass is actually a lovely saying but it's SO overused on here!

Oh the grips, I'd forgotten about the copious handing out of bloody grips. Grin

ilovesooty · 30/05/2014 00:05

I didn't think "Are you on glue?" was funny in the first place. Perhaps I'm missing something. Don't like "meh" either. It sounds like "bovvered?" - I always think people who use it sound about 13.

DenzelWashington · 30/05/2014 00:06

My Nigerian ex used to bark 'How Now?' at people who said stupid things to him. It was very effective (though that may have been as much down to the loud voice and Nigerian accent). Great, because it isn't rude exactly, but very much gets across that you are incredulous at the impertinence and stupidity of the other person.

Bellezeboobian · 30/05/2014 00:07

denzel did anyone reply 'brown cow'?

DenzelWashington · 30/05/2014 00:07

Oh, and the worst, to me is .

  1. 'Un-mumsnetty' is not a word, for heaven's sake;
  1. If you are going to do something as sentimental as offer a stranger a virtual hug, just do it unapologetically.
DenzelWashington · 30/05/2014 00:09

Oh no Belle. He did not inspire facetious replies, he was admirably brisk.

LackaDAISYcal · 30/05/2014 00:10

Not sure I would welcome MN merchandise; it's my guilty secret and I don't want my addiction advertised.

One of my MN mates linked the newsletter on my facebook timeline a couple of weeks ago as I was mentioned but I had to delete it pronto as I didn't want anyone knowing that I use MN and that I was one of several names on that newsletter...too easy to stalk me if anyone was that way inclined.

that aside, popcorn and hardhats used to drive me bonkers...you could almost time it to the first comment cropping up.

LackaDAISYcal · 30/05/2014 00:11

though I do like to a lot!!

EverythingCounts · 30/05/2014 00:16

Yes, hate it. It was only mildly funny the first time, and now indicates someone desperate to show they are part of the in crowd, baffling anyone new or who hasn't come across it in the process.

SecretWitch · 30/05/2014 00:16

In my neck of the woods we exclaim "You must be trippin'"...but I'm of the opinion this is a First World Problem..

TheLastThneed · 30/05/2014 00:17

Elderflower I'd like to add 'Gah' to your list. It boils my piss and makes me feel stabby. Grin

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 30/05/2014 00:19

I really hate "makes my teeth itch". It...I don't know...

fairyfuckwings · 30/05/2014 00:19

Ah I still find "are you on glue" amusing.

Agree with the other phrases though. Especially "did you mean to be so rude? " Of course they bloody did! Crappest comeback ever.

TheLastThneed · 30/05/2014 00:20

Yes, the bloody hardhats and flameproof jackets. Angry

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 30/05/2014 00:20

Rant over. End of.

fairyfuckwings · 30/05/2014 00:21

God yes to "itching teeth" and "boiling piss".

fairyfuckwings · 30/05/2014 00:22

Bingo

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 30/05/2014 00:22

Twinning up with fairyfuckwings here...

I like that phrase a lot; it's the only phrase on MN that I DO like and I also think there are more than a few Pritt Stick sniffers here.

I despise "Did you mean to be so rude?"; it's just cringeworthy.

Caff2 · 30/05/2014 00:23

I agree, OP - it was a bit funny the first time, as we say to kids - it was funny the first time, but that's enough now!

FidelineandFumblin · 30/05/2014 00:24

"just showed this to DH (the unrecognised oracle of Delphi) and he said...

Grin Grin

Someone tried to beat me into submission with "just showed this to my mum and she said..." earlier. She might have been 12.

Judd · 30/05/2014 00:26

Can't bear Wow. Just wow.

ILoveCoreyHaim · 30/05/2014 00:26

Are you on glue is not a just a MN phase, I've heard people use the term since I was a kid and I'm nearly 40.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 30/05/2014 00:28

Oh and the omnipresent, "Really!? Really, OP?" Very sneery.

ILoveCoreyHaim · 30/05/2014 00:30

Along with have you been sniffing evo

AKeyFox · 30/05/2014 00:30

I am reporting your solvent abusist nonsense forthwith.
