To hate the overused MN expression "Are you on glue?"

There's just something really horrible about it....rude and unnecessary.

It also smacks of someone trying to be smart and witty buy just trotting out a line they've been taught.

Equally irritating is "Did you mean to be so rude" because it's so overused and "This too shall pass." is also ANNOYING.

This too shall pass is actually a lovely saying but it's SO overused on here!

'Give is a gan of whatever your on'

PleaseJustShootMeNow · 30/05/2014 00:36

I tried 'Did you mean to be so rude' in real life once. It was a bit of a disaster. The other person just said 'yes' and I didn't know where to go from that. Don't like that phrase anymore.

randomfemale · 30/05/2014 00:38

Ahem I do still find the "are you on glue" phrase amusing (never uttered it myself though)

FidelineandFumblin · 30/05/2014 00:38

Ah Please that sounds painful. It always did sound like a tactic fit only for WI meetings Sad

MrsWinnibago · 30/05/2014 00:40

As you were.

PleaseJustShootMeNow, that really did make me laugh Grin

forago · 30/05/2014 00:47

you forgor vair for very and naice for nice.

if anyone said that to me in RL I would think they were idiots

I also hate, hate, hate the bloody "folks" - sounds so twee and the plural is bloody folk!

FidelineandFumblin · 30/05/2014 00:57

I can always hear the blood pressure rising on these threads.

EduardoBarcelona · 30/05/2014 01:06

Never heard

LogicalPreference · 30/05/2014 01:10

Didn't the glue comment originate from a bridezilla thread?

I loathe -

sleb and in my yoof and naice eurgh makes me cringe.

You don't see cats bum face much anymore - thank fuck for that.

ThingsThatShine · 30/05/2014 01:14

The glue comment was from a bridezilla thread a few months ago. I don't mind it but wouldn't use the phrase myself!

I hate makes my teeth itch, stabby, vair for very.

Caitlin17 · 30/05/2014 01:55

All of these are dreadful. I was going to say I especially dislike "A little bit of sick in my mouth" but really they are all equally bad.

May I add "get the rage"? I've never heard that in real life nor seen it on another forum.

PrincessBabyCat · 30/05/2014 02:15

I also really dislike meh. I don't fully understand it as I've never heard anyone make a noise like meh in real life, but it feels sneery and dismissive to me.

I use it in real life but it's more of a closed mouth "eh" or "mmm", it's just a display of indifference.

I didn't realize "Are you on glue" was a joke. It's a pretty common saying around here.

I do notice MN likes to use the work "piss" alot
Piss off, boiling piss, getting pissed, pissed off, taking the piss, etc... Seems like a versatile word here that can be squeezed in for any occasion. Grin

I just type how I talk in real life.

Strokethefurrywall · 30/05/2014 03:32

Thank god this is where all the sane people are!!

"Are you on glue?" is one of the lamest put downs I've ever read, its so school playground and it wasnt funny when I first read it on that bridezilla thread either!

And all other sayings (stabby, boils my piss, naice etc) are so often repeated it makes me think of minions following the "cool" gang who use an expression and everyone suddenly has to repeat it in an effort to fit in.

Did I mean to be so rude?? Yes. Yes I absolutely did.

Dubjackeen · 30/05/2014 03:52

Yeah it was being advertised on the right hand side of the page yesterday...a t.shirt with "Did you mean to be so rude" on the front.

The price was about £15 if I remember rightly

Mind you, if it had "'Of course I bloody did, you dim-witted arsewipe. Now fuck off.'" written on the back, it would be worth every penny!
I want THAT tshirt.

Silvercatowner · 30/05/2014 05:33

I loathe the phrase 'boils my piss'. Makes me want to clench and press my upper thighs together, very tightly.

HexBramble · 30/05/2014 06:06

Agree with everyone so far.

Rather like 'arf' though. Reads like a gentle snort of mirth and one I do often when MN'ing.

Put me down for a vigilante t-shirt Smile

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 30/05/2014 06:26

I use meh, got it from ds1, I like it!

I've used the glue comment once in a post, yesterday actually, I thought it was funny < sniggers> haven't seen it often to be honest.

I'll get me coat < exits ----->

I loathe did you mean to be so rude, it's so bloody useless as a retort.

RobotLover68 · 30/05/2014 06:40

My 15 year old dd actually says "meh" Hmm

"no is a complete sentence" sends me demented Angry

Rowingdowntheriver · 30/05/2014 06:47

I really dislike 'rip him/her a new one'. It's so unnecessarily graphic and violent.

Thankfully have never heard anyone say it in real life. It just makes me think of the poster as having anger problems when I read it on here.

StairsInTheNight · 30/05/2014 06:51

I hate ROAR. You hear it less now, which is good as I always imagined it as being typed by a famous five type woman in bunches and dungarees and a smug face

LtEveDallas · 30/05/2014 06:53

I like "Are you on glue?" But it's not an MN-ism, I use it quite a lot (and "Are you on coke?"). Think it was a result of Compulsory Drugs Testing that I started using it.

I like "Meh" too, it's so wonderfully dismissive. My Jewish Aunt used to use it a lot so I picked that one up from her. I remember picking DSD up for saying "Whatever" (because I hated it) and her telling me it was no different to "Meh" so if she was stopping I had to too.

I don't like "sick in my mouth" or "pee in my pants" though.

CalamityJones · 30/05/2014 07:07

grabs popcorn - just fuck off. I do rather like stabby though.

Delphiniumsblue · 30/05/2014 07:16

It can't be overused - I have never seen it. It seems a pretty lame 'put down' by MN standards!

Only1scoop · 30/05/2014 07:19

Don't mind that one it the 'cats bum face' I can't stand.
