To hate the overused MN expression "Are you on glue?"

There's just something really horrible about it....rude and unnecessary.

It also smacks of someone trying to be smart and witty buy just trotting out a line they've been taught.

Equally irritating is "Did you mean to be so rude" because it's so overused and "This too shall pass." is also ANNOYING.

This too shall pass is actually a lovely saying but it's SO overused on here!

OP posts:
scottishmummy · 31/05/2014 01:08

Its the trite, oft trotted out froth.this too will pass..aye?what if it doesnt what if this is it
change the locks/pack his bags...and what if its his property?cant throw out owner
I think for some its a vicarious event.chance to be strident about someone else situation

scottishmummy · 31/05/2014 01:18

And the mn merchandising.fuck.just pop a post it on your head that says wanker
Whod buy a branded wanky predictable rebuke cup other than one lacking imagination
Its so v dreadful, smug, cliquey, can smell the indignation from here

Bellezeboobian · 31/05/2014 01:24

Theres people now sheepishly sipping out of a Mumsnet Cup reading scottishmummy's post Grin

AlexReidsLonelyBraincell · 31/05/2014 07:59

Fuck me, they do kids t shirts as well, with [ hmm ] on them. Can you imagine? Just why? "Yes, let's kit out the whole family, we'll look so witty and cool wearing the MN brand".

Post-it proclaiming wankerdom is about right. Will anybody admit to buying it?

Awaits deletion for treason or something. Grin

ExitPursuedByABear · 31/05/2014 08:25

None of it will matter a hundred years from now.

Is that better than 'this too will pass'?

mrsminiverscharlady · 31/05/2014 08:33

I've recently noticed that if a poster needs to fill in the background to a situation for context, it's inevitably followed by "fast forward to now..."
I'm not clear on whether this is because they are simply too unimaginative to write what they actually mean ie "a few months/years later" or because they think that their life is like a film. Either way it's really annoying me and I wish I'd never noticed it.

AlexReidsLonelyBraincell · 31/05/2014 08:39

Or Exit, 'we'll all be dead in a hundred years'. Something cheery like that? Grin

Summerbreezing · 31/05/2014 09:45

I think the expression 'passive aggressive' should be banned from MN. As others have said it's often used by twits who don't understand what it means. The people who do understand what it means just use it to be.... well ...... passive aggressive

Mrsjayy · 31/05/2014 10:24

They have kids t shirts but I thought most mumsnetters didnt like tacky slogan t shirts Confused

Mrsjayy · 31/05/2014 10:26

Oh I noticed the life stories on a thread the other day I just wanted to get to the point I didnt care that they had fallen out with their sister when they were 5,

hackmum · 31/05/2014 10:32

There are dozens of expressions used on Mumsnet that annoy me, many of which have been mentioned already. Oddly, "Are you on glue?" isn't one of them - I find it mildly amusing, though probably I'll get fed up eventually. I particularly liked the thread about a ghastly bride (sent out save the date cards, then didn't invite everyone, then asked the uninvited OP to help her decorate the venue) who ended up being nicknamed "gluezilla".

The piece of advice I dislike most on Mumsnet is when someone is worried they have a serious medical condition and someone says, "Don't google." I always think: who the fuck are you to go round telling other people not to google?

ilovesooty · 31/05/2014 12:11

I can't stand "menz" or "cool wives" either.

mejon · 31/05/2014 13:30

Bit late to the party and probably a thread killer as usual but I hate "talk me down" as in 'I'm in a state/furious with DH, talk me down please' - what the flippin flip does that mean - do people say this irl?

Ubik1 · 31/05/2014 15:33

Oh I dislike "menz" and "cool wives" too

It's used as some sort of self righteous and actually rather dubious feminist shorthand to shut you up. Just because your opinion may differ. It's horrible.

ComposHat · 31/05/2014 22:28

I've seen 'menz' and 'cool wives' never quite able to figure out the significance of either term.

FidelineandFumblin · 31/05/2014 22:32

Me neither compo. Is this a good time to appeal for an explanation?

Summerbreezing · 31/05/2014 23:05

"Are you alright "

Is it okay to murder any poster who comes out with that shit?

Daisymasie · 31/05/2014 23:10

Yes summerbreezing very slowly and painfully.

scottishmummy · 01/06/2014 01:30

Platitudes. Calling someone sweetie sweetheart Its belittling
and stage direction >
Overstated hyperbole.just sicked up a bit/pissed myself/popped a plook

KikitheKitKat · 01/06/2014 12:52

Please can MNHQ make it so that all posts are rejected if they contain a previously used witty phrase. The poster would have to invent something new in order for the post to be accepted. Thankyou.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 01/06/2014 14:00

The 'head tilt' is something I associate with MNHQ so anybody who uses it is copying (and that's cringey).

The 'shit in your hands and clap' is something I always associate with Worra. So, anybody else who uses it is copying her.

Most of the phrases posters have said get on my nerves. The glue one though, that's still funny to me.

AKeyFox · 01/06/2014 22:44

I am quite partial to ; I imagine a :) at a jaunty angle.

Ubik1 · 02/06/2014 18:12

PrincessBabyCat · 02/06/2014 18:25

Platitudes. Calling someone sweetie sweetheart Its belittling

Yes, but that's actually the point. At least people are using it correctly when they do it.

The seems a bit stupid too. Only dogs tilt their heads in confusion. Humans tilt their heads because they're interested and curious.

The piece of advice I dislike most on Mumsnet is when someone is worried they have a serious medical condition and someone says, "Don't google." I always think: who the fuck are you to go round telling other people not to google?

Because according to the internet everyone has aspergers, cancer, social anxiety, and bipolar disorder. It's just going to make you worry more without giving you accurate information that can be given by a doctor.
