AIBU to not have 'guest' sanitary protection in bathroom?

Long story short, a relatively new friend and teenage daughter visited I later received a text

'Thank you for having us, unfortunately you have caused xxx embarrassment as she could not find the guest tampons and had to come home with toilet paper in her underwear'

Confused

Is this a thing? I have never once thought before that I should have pads/tampons in the bathroom, easily accessed by guests

My mum was great and I loved her a lot but we never talked about periods (I bought my own stuff from pocket money/paper round money) and now I'm wondering if this is just another thing I was never told about and feel a bit stupid to be honest Sad

Does everyone else have things available in the bathroom for guests? I'm thinking about other bathrooms I've been in and can't say I've noticed this before?

Guest tampons??

OwlCapone · 29/05/2014 18:18

That friend was incredibly rude.

Morgause · 29/05/2014 18:18

What a ridiculous idea. Never seen it anywhere. I always took my own.

stripeyred · 29/05/2014 18:18

Never heard of guest tampons, are you meant to have a shelf devoted to different absorbance?

MrsKranky · 29/05/2014 18:18

I don't have anything at all - I don't have periods, so would expect those that do to arrange their own sanitary provisions!!! If I did have stuff in I would be happy to provide if needed, but surely if you knew you were on, or due you'd be prepared?!? Shock

CanaryYellow · 29/05/2014 18:19

This is a new friend? Just ditch her right now and save yourself years of this crap.

stripeyred · 29/05/2014 18:19

Absorbances

picnicbasketcase · 29/05/2014 18:19

Wtf? I've never been to any house that had guest sanitary products in the bathroom. I would expect anyone who visited me and needed anything to either ask me, to go out and buy what they needed, or to have brought their own. I certainly would never ever message anyone to tell them I'd had to use loo paper! Shock

Pipbin · 29/05/2014 18:19

No, YANBU. I always take my own sanitary protection and I would only ever use a friend's in an emergency. I would never provide 'guest sanpro'. And how would you make it clear it was for guest use? A little bowl on the side with a sign saying 'for guest ladies'?
Why the hell didn't the mother or the friend ask if they could use yours.

WelshMaenad · 29/05/2014 18:19

She's mad, and rude.

No, normal people do not have guest tampons.

If I'm expecting my period I carry my own sanitary products. Fucknut.

iliketea · 29/05/2014 18:19

What? Surely if you need them you bring your own? I have sanitary stuff in my bathroom and friends are welcome to rummage and use what they need, but I wouldn't have special guest sanitary products.

Whatever next? Complaints that she didn't like the brand?!

JonSnowKnowsNothing · 29/05/2014 18:19

Eh?
Who sends a text like that!? I do tend to have tampons etc on a shelf in my bathroom, not that I ever have any menstruating women in my house (Am a billy-etta no mates) but just cos I'm too lazy to hide them somewhere.
A text like that is just WEIRD!

MacenroeTheBoatAshore · 29/05/2014 18:19

What????? I keep all my sanitary pads in the bathroom so if anyone needs one they are there anyway!

LettertoHerms · 29/05/2014 18:19

Er, no.

I've had guests ask me specifically when

chocolatemademefat · 29/05/2014 18:19

NEVER heard of this before! YADNBU!

magpiegin · 29/05/2014 18:19

No, that's odd. I do have towels/ tampons in the bathroom cupboard that people are welcome to use but wouldn't put them out specifically for guests.

Lilaclily · 29/05/2014 18:20

oh come on
is this an actual friend or a twat of the highest order

who writes a text like that after being invited to stay somewhere?

op you need new friends!

Lonecatwithkitten · 29/05/2014 18:20

No guest tampons in my bathroom either. I have always assumed if I have my period I needed to carry my own tampons. With the huge variety out there how could you possibly cater for everyone's taste.

mrstigs · 29/05/2014 18:20

Not a thing I've ever heard of or expected tbh, if I know I'm due I just carry spares around in my bag. Could she not just ask? And also its a bit odd of her mum to take it on herself to point it out to you, not very good manners on her part.

weatherall · 29/05/2014 18:20

Your friend is daft.

Are you supposed to have a tesco aisle worth?
Wings/applicator/sensitive/extra

Binkyresurrected · 29/05/2014 18:20

I've stuff in the bathroom that a guest can use if they need to but I don't have products that are for guests. The only reason they are in the bathroom is because its easier for me.

ILoveCoreyHaim · 29/05/2014 18:20

I have 3 dds. Guest tampons??

It's her responsibility to make sure her daughter has adequate supplies so she has caused embarrassment. It's not you fault her DD didn't tell her DM she needed tampons. I don't know anyone who supplies get tampons.

DinoSnores · 29/05/2014 18:20

How bizarre and rude! No guest tampons here, but I suppose anyone caught short could just look in the bathroom cupboard. I'm not sure how far they'd get though as I have pretty much been pregnant and/or breastfeeding for the last five years so I've probably had periods numbering single digits in that time!

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 29/05/2014 18:20

No I don't intentionally have sanitary products for guests to use. I do keep a stash of tampons in my bathroom for my use, though I would be a bit miffed if someone helped themselves to them without asking.
I would respond with "Oh you should have said something, I could have got her one."
Don't feel stupid OP, it is not a thing, not where I live anyway.

FunLovinBunster · 29/05/2014 18:21

YANBU, but it's not a bad idea to keep some just in case. Especially when you've got young daughters as you never know when the Red Tide is going to turn up when you first start
