...whilst on a public engagement must have either a) a screw loose or b) major exhibistionistic tendencies?

She has clearly made a policy of eschewing hem weights.

She knew she would be getting into a helicopter.

It looks like she is commando, although I suppose there is the possibility of a dental floss g-string.

I'm just Shock

thesauraus do you have some type of album of photos there?

The whole crap about 'decorum' is a feminist issue. You're basically telling WOMEN that they should act a certain way based on their sex. That's sexist.

I think the issue here is the people who thought it was right to post a photo of a young women's bum without her permission.

Chippednailvarnish · 27/05/2014 12:45

I can't see how not wearing knickers is an act of sabotage. Not unless Prince Charles's office have supplied her with magic disappearing knickers, you know the ones you put on and before you know it they have Houdini'ed off down the street.

FidelineandFumblin · 27/05/2014 12:45

I want to see a pic of Laurie in her work clothes. And everyone else who seems to think this is 'easily done'. I'm baffled - what do you all do for a living Confused?

Fideline [Grin].

Agree with Belle, there is something misogynist about the criticism. Dressing with decorum is a very female virtue; in the blue trousers he's wearing, you can see the clear outline of Prince William's knob, but no one seems to be remarking on it; perhaps because it's not 'ladylike' to notice Wink.

TheFairyCaravan · 27/05/2014 12:49

I'm not saying she should act a certain way because she is a woman, I think she should act a certain way because she is the mother of the future King and was representing our Queen.

When I used to work as a Dental Nurse, if I had flashed my arse at work I would have been in serious trouble!

thesaurusgirl · 27/05/2014 12:49

Chipped She's wearing a g-string. I agree she should have worn granny pants but perhaps they don't make them in her tiny size?

If she gets Spanx to make her some size 2s couture, I bet we'd complain about that too.

FidelineandFumblin · 27/05/2014 12:53

If I may respectfully say so belle that is errant bollox.

Gender could not be LESS relevant to my take on this. The divide isn't M/F, it is RF/non-RF.

All the weird anomolous elements of this story, this woman and her life are due to the special claims and exceptions made for her because of her 'royal status'.

Anyone else would have a proper job and wear trousers when boarding a helicopter as far as I can see. Nobody outside the RF demands we pay deference and cash purely due to who their parent or spouse is.

Well no. I have actually said similar about Harry BUT

a) he keeps his nudity away from official enegagements
b) he isn't in the direct line of succession
c) he does have an actual career

So he does have more mitigation but is in fact another exhibitionist with a maladjusted sense of decorum/

You're all too young to remember, but once (probably 1970s) some idiots inspired designers gave us edible knickers. Continuing the 'deliberate sabotage theme by jealous older royals/stuffy courtiers', maybe the forelock tugging lackeys who did the royal packing were bribed/threatened so that they packed a supply of edible knickers that had been lying around forgotten in some dank and dusty garret at Windsor castle.

These edible knickers being eminently tasty, in flavours such as 'caviar', 'foie gras', 'Haribo Tangfastics' or 'Cheese 'n Onion', one night early on in the NZ/Australia tour, the royal couple got a bit peckish.

'Oooh,' said the Duchess, 'Lackey who packed my haversack told me there's a lovely snack in there ... I think it's in the Tupperware container that your mum gave us for a wedding present ...'

The rest is inevitable ... they ate her knickers.

TheFairyCaravan · 27/05/2014 12:57

I've heard it all now! Hmm

This. It's not complicated.

decorum here has f-all to do with gender. It's about role, and not really Royal / non-royal - I'd feel similarly about any paid diplomatic representative of this country (unpaid spouse / children fall outside, so fill your boots, Michelle Obama / Sam Cam).
Anyway, my mind BOGGLES at the thought of Sophie Wessex getting her lils out for Chris Tarrant...
(& do you really suppose it's beyond her clothing budget to get Rigby & Peller to run up some nice french knickers / full arse covering lace and satin creations in size 6? It's not a choice between granny pants / g string, there's a whole wealth of arse covering options betwixt the two)

Chippednailvarnish · 27/05/2014 13:00

I'd have just as much issue if William wore shorts which allowed his sack to escape...

FidelineandFumblin · 27/05/2014 13:00

No I don't agree. If this was a male royal who had a mishap there'd be laughter and 'oh he's such a lad' not any of this outdated 'decorum' crap and judgemental comments.

SuperFlyHigh · 27/05/2014 13:06

I really think she knows what she's doing and is attention seeking. More and more she seems to focus on her dress sense and her appeal to the public.

YouAreCompletelyRight · 27/05/2014 13:07

If diet and exercise ever give me an arse like that (again), I shall forever go commando in windy places wearing m flimsiest dresses.

That is my promise to the world.

SuperFlyHigh · 27/05/2014 13:08

oh and well done a g-string surely she's not completely naive not to think of situations of draughts, winds etc - even I when I was younger would NOT have worn a g-string with such a dress.

I suppose she's like her trolley dolly mother in the decorum stakes.

FidelineandFumblin · 27/05/2014 13:08

If William had worn short shorts leading to tackle escapage on that royal public engagement?

I personally would be saying much the same, particularly if he had form for it.

Off on a very slight tangent on the subject of knickers ... I was in hospital waiting for my hip replacement. I'd been given a gown, those white tight stockings to stop thrombosis and a curious paper thing. I got dressed in this stuff, put the paper thing on my head, assuming it was to keep my hair covered.

Nurse came in with porters, to wheel me to operating theatre. 'Why are you wearing your paper knickers on your head?' she asked. At least the porters laughed.

annielouise · 27/05/2014 13:10

I think she's quite attention seeking tbh but likes to act all innocent. Too many times has she come off a plane and her skirts have blown in the wind. I think that's the difference between her and Princess Diana who I think had more class. I recently saw a clip of Princess Di coming of a plane in a skirt that was calf length yet she still put her hands down to stop it blowing up. Kate makes no attempt. I just think after having had a Queen reign for so long that has not really had any scandal directly attached to her or her behaviour Kate showing her arse is not great. Aren't they supposed to be above us mere mortals? I think she should have more of a sense of decorum. However, she knows she has a good figure and I think likes displaying it - she's not got much else going for her in my view and is slightly insecure (she tries so hard to be liked). I don't think it's expecting to much that she stops flashing or at least tries to.
