To tell friends their baby name is a well known kids TV character?

Friends are having their first DC soon. We were talking about names and one that they had settled on is the name of a character from a very well known kids TV show. Think Peppa Pig, Thomas the Tank Engine, Fireman Sam.

First name and surname the same, BTW.

Obviously they don't have DC so they don't watch kids TV yet. I wanted to tell them but DH said it would be really rude. Maybe in a few years this show won't be watched as much, but it's pretty popular so idk.

Who is BU?

Hehehe at Freddie Fox

Well unless they come accross some die hard Peppa Pig fans then they should be ok

bunnybing · 25/05/2014 17:00

Dora Theexplorer?

FoxSticks · 25/05/2014 17:01

Aren't all 2 year olds die hard Peppa fans? I agree it won't be a problem once out of the toddler stage.

squoosh · 25/05/2014 17:02

If your surname is an animal one like Fox I think it's bad idea to pick an illiterative first name.

Freddie Fox
Willy Wolf
Billy Badger

They all sound like cartoon characters.

IneedAwittierNickname · 25/05/2014 17:03

I didn't know there was a Freddie Fox on tv.
However, it does make me think of the mascot at John Fowler holidays!

CrazyHorse · 25/05/2014 17:20

Meh, Freddie Fox is nothing!

I know a Harry Potter in RL.

weatherall · 25/05/2014 17:25

Is fox the surname or middle name?

If it's the middle name then I don't think it matters.

Or they could give him the full name and just call him the nn.

woodwaj · 25/05/2014 17:29

Why don't you buy them a dvd as an 'early present' that way if they haven't already realised it will seem more of a nice gesture than a warning?

Sahkoora · 25/05/2014 17:36

Fox is their surname, weatherall. Maybe I'll put some Peppa Pigs on catch-up to keep the kids amused when she's over next.

DH has all but forbidden me to mention it, but if she noticed for herself then it won't upset his delicate sensibilities!

I'm a grown up and I'd want to ask him if his dad had 'x' in his van. Or if he'd remembered to get petrol recently. Obviously I wouldn't though.

MrsRuffdiamond · 25/05/2014 17:54

and Flowers to MrsRuffDiamond who got it right

Smile @ Stealth

So disappointed that Mr. and Mrs. Tankengine aren't unwittingly going to call their first born Thomas!

MrsRuffdiamond · 25/05/2014 17:58

Also think Dennis (the Menace) Mitchell ought to be written in to 'Eastenders'.

SadOldGit · 25/05/2014 18:20

My children went to school with Harry Potter - he was born just before books came out!

Iseecows · 25/05/2014 18:55

I know a Harry Potter too, he's mid teens now.

squoosh · 25/05/2014 18:57

Being called Harry Potter must be SUCH a ball ache.

Catsize · 25/05/2014 19:00

I know a Freddy Fox. Nice chap. I didn't know it was a Peppa Pig character, but he is much older than PP anyway.

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 25/05/2014 19:11

First name and surname the same, BTW

This bit had me flummoxed - I was thinking along the lines of 'Thomas Thomas' or 'Percy Percy'. Couldn't for the life of me think of any children's character that had the same first name as surname. Have been absolutely wracking my brains Confused

NeitherTheChimeNorThePlace · 25/05/2014 19:14

I was hoping for Doc McStuffin.

I'd just drop it into the conversation.

CookieB · 25/05/2014 19:30

Evansoval I thought that too Grin. I am pregnant with dc3 and came up with a name I suddenly loved. Only realised its the name of a quite popular pub down the road from me last week (despite driving past it on an almost daily basis for about 10 years!)

Canthisonebeused · 25/05/2014 19:32

Norman price

ShatnersBassoon · 25/05/2014 19:38

Is Freddie Fox a character in something?! I know a Freddie Fox, just thought it was a bit quirky, I had no idea it was from something!

Lilimum2be · 25/05/2014 19:40

Is it peppa Thomas??

TillyButton · 25/05/2014 19:59

Freddie,as in Mercury,is a lovely name.

A friend called her ds Harry (last name Potter) just a few months before the books were published Smile

WowserBowser · 25/05/2014 20:03

Yes, Freddie Fox is in Peppa Pig.

My Ds is 3 and Peppa is very popular with him and his friends.

ShatnersBassoon · 25/05/2014 20:04

How funny, the Freddie Fox I know is a toddler. He'll be so popular when he gets to nursery Grin
