To tell friends their baby name is a well known kids TV character?

Friends are having their first DC soon. We were talking about names and one that they had settled on is the name of a character from a very well known kids TV show. Think Peppa Pig, Thomas the Tank Engine, Fireman Sam.

First name and surname the same, BTW.

Obviously they don't have DC so they don't watch kids TV yet. I wanted to tell them but DH said it would be really rude. Maybe in a few years this show won't be watched as much, but it's pretty popular so idk.

Who is BU?

Damnit. That would have been funny if I'd have managed to slip right in behind Squoosh.

Mr Bloom?

AlexReidsLonelyBraincell · 25/05/2014 14:59

Rasta Mouse? Mister Bloom?

The Peppa Pig characters have fairly 'normal' names don't they? Suzy, Richard, Robbie, Zoe etc.

ScarlettlovesRhett · 25/05/2014 15:00

I'll put money on Norman Price too!

Or Robbie Rotten?

(Has been years since mine watched young kid tv though, so am out of the loop!). I would tell your friend though.

ClashCityRocker · 25/05/2014 15:02

give us a hint...

oohdaddypig · 25/05/2014 15:03

Dunno if you should say or not but its bugging me that I can't work the name out!

I can't think of any kids' programmes where the character has a first name surname that is used. Unless the surname is Rabbit.

Just say Oh, like the kid's programme X, they've got a character called Y.

Then they can decide if they want to change or not.

starlight1234 · 25/05/2014 15:11

Depends what the name is..Norman price..Yes I certainly wouldn't want my DS named after him.

Are you aware this name .....

Yes do tell us

CharlesRyder · 25/05/2014 15:11

Tommy Zoom?

MrsRuffdiamond · 25/05/2014 15:12

Surely the names from Thomas and Peppa (I've not seen a Fireman Sam) are just normal names, Thomas, Henry, George, Suzy, Freddie etc.!? I'm a bit confused.

I think the surname is the same, too, so Thomas Tankengine (unlikely, I'll admit), Freddie Fox (possible) etc.

Arthur (Read)?
Dennis (the Menace) Mitchell?
Stanley Brown?

wigglylines · 25/05/2014 15:12

Of course you should tell them. I don't get this "I can't say anything it's too rude" stuff.

If you mean it rudely, it's rude. But if you mean it with kindness, and say it in a thoughtful way, it's kind and thoughtful.

I always - gently and kindly - tell people if they have a bit of food between their teeth, for example, rather than let then spend all day with it with no one telling them. People thank me for this. I don't understand why people create a situation by not telling them?!

How will you feel if your friend confides in you 6 months down the line that she is really embarrassed she called her baby a TV character without knowing, and really wishes she'd chosen another name. Or 7 years down the line if the child hates it and is getting teased? (Not inevitable, but possible) and you could have prevented it?

You have to say something now, then they can make an informed decision. To do so is being a good friend IMO.

Alligatorpie · 25/05/2014 15:13

A friend named her ds the name of a Beatrix Potter character, she didn't know - as she hadn't read it in about 30 years.

I would casually mention the importance of googling a name - just to see if it the name of a porn star or something.
