The brilliant Michael Rosen on UKIP.

l“I sometimes fear that people might think that fascism arrives in fancy dress worn by grotesques and monsters as played out in endless re-runs of the Nazis. Fascism arrives as your friend. It will restore your honour, make you feel proud, protect your house, give you a job, clean up the neighbourhood, remind you of how great you once were, clear out the venal and the corrupt, remove anything you feel is unlike you…It doesn’t walk in saying, “Our programme means militias, mass imprisonments, transportations, war and persecution.”

no they are not they are stating historical fact

SirChenjin · 12/05/2014 19:13

Historical fact? Do enlighten us.

NigellasDealer · 12/05/2014 19:14

read my post of 18.55 sirchenjin that is all I meant but apparently it is racist

Abra1d · 12/05/2014 19:15

Nope, you claimed that contemporary Germans couldn't be trusted and all the Nazis hadn't died out. I am assuming that your teenage son or daughter must have got control of your laptop and this is why you are writing such rubbish. Either that, or you've been on the drink.

To any German people reading this thread--please rest assured most of us do not share these views!

OTheHugeManatee · 12/05/2014 19:17

Seriously NigellasDealer? You think UKIP are to be avoided because his German wife is probably a Nazi...? After all, no smoke without fire. Or something Hmm

Clearly UKIP's supporters don't have a monopoly on bonkers racist generalisations then Grin

TequilaMockingbirdy · 12/05/2014 19:17

The thing is as part of the group that has been most negatively affected by immigration, I still don't support them

I do think immigration should be more limited, but I don't like this 'send them back' attitude people seem to have it's disgusting. One poster on here mentioned how her little DD thought she'd have to go and live abroad :( awful.

NigellasDealer · 12/05/2014 19:17

well Nazis have not died out, if you think they have then you are fooling yourself

SirChenjin · 12/05/2014 19:18

Just to clarify - are you just talking about the German people, or can we include the Japanese, Italians and the other dependencies in that assertion Nigella?

OTheHugeManatee · 12/05/2014 19:18

Honestly, I have no intention of voting for UKIP but this recent outbreak of UKIP hysteria threads are a gift that keeps on giving Grin

NigellasDealer · 12/05/2014 19:18

i was not being entirely serious manatee..... but u know.....I really wouldnt vote for them with their chat about checking who your grandparents were and hiding away disabled people - seriously what does it remind you of?

turgiday · 12/05/2014 19:19

The point about giving people priority to social housing if your parents and grandparents live in the area, is in their manifesto. In most areas social housing is so scarce that priority means only people whose parents and grandparents live there stand a chance of getting social housing.

Many people like myself have had grandparents emigrate. Or even parents. So tough luck.

SirChenjin · 12/05/2014 19:20

Oh I think you were being perfectly serious - you're just backtracking now.

turgiday · 12/05/2014 19:21

And hiding disabled people away is a shocking suggestion.

I don't think I could be friends with anyone who voted for UKIP. And i am being serious. Anyone who thinks it is fine to do things like hide disabled people away, and forbid disabled children from going to mainstream schools, is just vile.

NigellasDealer · 12/05/2014 19:21

yes well my grandparents are long dead and my dad was an immigrant so maybe they would 'send us back'

pommedeterre · 12/05/2014 19:22

I compared them to the nazis today with dh. The race being primed for destruction is women I fear.

NigellasDealer · 12/05/2014 19:23

no sirchenjin I am not 'backtracking' and I do think it is of some concern that Farages wife is German = wonder who her grandparents were eh?
what do you want me to say - that two world wars didn't happen?
that there are only 'lovely' Germans now?

captainproton · 12/05/2014 19:27

Nigellasdealer you know with views like that I'm surprised you're not voting BNP nevermind UKIP.

Or do you actually know who her grandparents are?

NigellasDealer · 12/05/2014 19:30

with views like what? that there were two world wars in the last century involving Germany? check it on wiki if you don't believe me.
you see this is what pisses me off, you speak the truth and people start accusing you of being in the BNP and it is such an unintelligent knee jerk reaction.
why on earth would I be in the BNP when three out of four of my children's
grandparents are not British?

captainproton · 12/05/2014 19:36

You are making a rather absurd assumption that because a woman who was born in Germany, who had grandparents who were German, is a potential Nazi.

Your only proof is that she is German. If that isn't racist I don't know what is.

BNP don't hide their racism and neither do you.

I have a lot of good friends who are German, they are sick and tired of having to apologise for the mistakes their grandparents made.

It's like those twats that think all Muslims are terrorists.

NigellasDealer · 12/05/2014 19:42

no it is not, Islam is a world religion that crosses national boundaries and German is a nationality. It's a really silly comparison.

captainproton · 12/05/2014 19:50

No I don't think so, there both twatty, ignorant and offensive prejudices spouted by people who want to judge someone by their nationality or their religion.

Please enlighten me how calling someone a Nazi because they happen to be a German is not racist?

You may not find it upsetting but plenty of Germans do. And Btw not all Germans were Nazis during the 30s and 40s.

CumberCookie · 12/05/2014 19:57

HappyGoLuckyGirl you should read this www.theguardian.com/politics/reality-check-with-polly-curtis/2011/oct/04/reality-check-cat-theresa-may

The fact that man owned a cat was not included in judge's decision.

NigellasDealer · 12/05/2014 19:58

I did not call anyone a Nazi though did I?

ForalltheSaints · 12/05/2014 19:58

You should say the Blackshirts to show up the average UKIP voter's lack of historical knowledge. Then explain that they were the British Union of Fascists, who were supported by the Daily Mail.

captainproton · 12/05/2014 20:06

Yep definitely back-tracking, good luck with the Nigel's german wife is a suspect Nazi cos her grandparents lived during WW2, argument.
