To be upset that there are 3 Ukip posters up in houses down my road :(

It is a pretty working class street, some council, some privately owned houses. Not sure if that is relevant but WHY the fuck would you advertise the fact that you are a fuckwit? All of the people with the notices up are older people - older than me, which is 43 (im not older!!!! - ok, maybe a bit).

Its pretty worrying really that what i would normally see as very respectable folk have been sucked in by this bullshit?

This is a conservative ward, and although dissilussioned with the previous gov i have always voted labour - i am going to have to vote bloody tory in a half beat effort to keep Ukip out of the area :(

My DD lives in a town with a ukip counsellor - its fucking dire and getting worse :(

OP posts:
Icimoi · 10/05/2014 20:29

What I MIGHT have said is that they don't CARE about the facts and will STILL vote with their feet and voices

Not that really is depressing. But it is sadly true that most UKIP supporters seem very uninterested in facts.

Icimoi · 10/05/2014 20:29

Now, not "Not".

LackaDAISYcal · 10/05/2014 20:29

the people doing them before 1994 were doing them for minimum wage, or at least had been for five years since it's intorduction; before theyt they were doing them for less than a living wage. The jobs would pay low regardless of who is doing them as the employers have always got off paying the least amount possible. Where does the perception that immigrants have pushed down wages come from? The Daily Mail?

Icimoi · 10/05/2014 20:31

Deakymom, employers don't employ immigrants out of anti-British prejudice. They are, generally, solely interested in profits. If they employ Polish workers in preference to British workers, perhaps it has something to do with their perception of the comparative workrates and productivity of the groups in question.

turgiday · 10/05/2014 20:31

That would upset me too OP

Icimoi · 10/05/2014 20:33

And in fact, Deaky, there is absolutely nothing in UKIP's policies saying that they will interfere with the profit motive for business owners. So your idea that this will magically improve your life is, I am afraid, without foundation.

LackaDAISYcal · 10/05/2014 20:35

Employers employ the people that come over best at application and interview stage and who are qualified and/or experienced in the job and who they feel will put in the best effort to make their business thrive. If that is other EU nationals, then so be it.

And so it IS Icimoi. You are not accepting that other people can think differently to you..........so you harass them. Sound familiar??

WhereAreMyGlasses · 10/05/2014 20:37

Be glad it's a poster and not this!

LackaDAISYcal · 10/05/2014 20:39

Sorry Tucson, why do you think that minimum wage will rise? Exactly how are immigrants pushing wages down? Minimum wage is set by the government and is low because it hasn't risen with inflation year on year; that is not the fault of the people doing the jobs, nor is it a casual effect of their nationality.

LackaDAISYcal · 10/05/2014 20:40

*causal not casual!

WickedWitchoftheNorthWest · 10/05/2014 20:44

They come here to work and have a better life than back home......as I would like to go to USA, Canada, NZ, Aus for a better life.......but I bet I wouldn't get in!

Sure you would if, for example, you were willing to get off your backside and work hard as hell like immigrants here and abroad are willing to do. You could pick crops in the fields alongside the Mexican workers in the US. Or you could educate yourself and become a doctor or dentist or other skilled profession where the country of your dreams would love to have you. But instead of doing anything to make your dreams come true you just sit around criticising those have have, i.e. immigrants who are working hard in the UK at jobs and for hours and wages you would turn your nose up for. Yet I'm sure you're delighted at the cheap produce picked by them that you can buy in the supermarkets...

Icimoi · 10/05/2014 20:46

Where did I say that I was not accepting that other people can think differently to me? I was merely suggesting that those who do be presented with some facts in relation to the issues in question. They are entirely free to try to do the same in response. You still haven't given any explanation why that is harassment.

StarGazeyPond · 10/05/2014 20:47

Woa WickedWitch - you don't know me.

Icimoi · 10/05/2014 20:48

I don't like political posters on houses much but I like the idea of neighbours posting challenging leaflets through each other's doors even less.

But that is what happens at every election. Why is it suddenly so dreadful?

WickedWitchoftheNorthWest · 10/05/2014 20:49

Then help me understand why you can't emigrate since you say you want to?

funnyossity · 10/05/2014 20:50

The larger pool of workers has enabled employers to erode conditions (eg. zero hours) and sadly some migrant workers are diddled out of their minimum wage by unscrupulous employers / gangmasters.

I think even economists now are admitting immigration is tough on the lowest paid.

LackaDAISYcal · 10/05/2014 20:50

hear hear wickedwitch.

There is nothing to stop British workers working anywhere in the EU, or beyond if they fulfill the skilled workers criteria. But they don't; they sit and moan about how pepople come over here taking our jobs.

What about the blue rinse brigade who draw their UK pension, yet are spending it on the costas? why isn't anyone's ire directed at them? why is the ire directed at people who for the most part are paying their tax and NI and not sponging off the state.

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 10/05/2014 20:52

I'd be worried about moving into a street full of cunts too: yanbu

StarGazeyPond · 10/05/2014 20:53

Then help me understand why you can't emigrate since you say you want to?

Because for 30 years I have been bringing up a disabled child to adult hood and had no time to study to be a dentist....or whatever. Now I am a pensioner.

And I didn't say I wanted to.

unemployment is tough on the lowest paid, not immigration.

WickedWitchoftheNorthWest · 10/05/2014 20:57

Quite right, LackaDAISYcal. And what about the corporations that treat their low paid workers like dirt all the while tax dodging instead of paying their way? Instead of going after those who are really screwing over the economy of this country the poorest members of our society (immigrants vs those born here) are squabbling amongst themselves while the rich get away with it, as always.
