To be upset that there are 3 Ukip posters up in houses down my road :(

It is a pretty working class street, some council, some privately owned houses. Not sure if that is relevant but WHY the fuck would you advertise the fact that you are a fuckwit? All of the people with the notices up are older people - older than me, which is 43 (im not older!!!! - ok, maybe a bit).

Its pretty worrying really that what i would normally see as very respectable folk have been sucked in by this bullshit?

This is a conservative ward, and although dissilussioned with the previous gov i have always voted labour - i am going to have to vote bloody tory in a half beat effort to keep Ukip out of the area :(

My DD lives in a town with a ukip counsellor - its fucking dire and getting worse :(

ok then ICOMOI my lawyer must have ripped us off then .but because it a civil action we were entitled to nothing because in the case of the mentally impaired unless they can express the reason for court action .it is up to parents and obviously autism means he cant express his views very well .so as i said unless you have personal experience of this giving stupid phone numbers are no good .tell you what you phone on monday and explain and see where it gets you .nowhere i have the bills to prove it .

funnyossity · 10/05/2014 23:22

My point is that the attitudes displayed to a poster here expressing concerns about immigration are actually at the heart of what is wrong with the political debate over EU open borders.

Now you seem to want me to shut up. How overdramatic is that.

Icimoi · 10/05/2014 23:22

What you artistically left out, funnyossity, is the fact that I pointed out that Polish people tend to speak English. Also that learning a foreign language can stand people in good stead generally when seeking employment.

Icimoi · 10/05/2014 23:24

Gingham, I suggest you go and have a look at UKIP policies if you seriously contend that what turgiday says is incorrect.

Icimoi · 10/05/2014 23:25

Aprilanne, yes, I do have personal experience of using legal aid to enforce the right of disabled children to education.

That is one of the many reasons why I am astonished that the parent of a disabled child could possibly contemplate voting for a party that thinks it is appropriate to shut the disabled away in institutions.

well i suppose while my children were a drain from babies at least there father and i have contributed since we left school .

But that's the point - you were also raised here so benefitted from the state. I don't like what happened to your son but I don't think UKIP are the answer to that.

Icimoi · 10/05/2014 23:27

And, by the way, if you want to help your child, aprilanne, don't dismiss my suggestion.

turgiday · 10/05/2014 23:28

Farage said: "I do not support same sex marriages all the while we're under the auspices of the European court of human rights."

LackaDAISYcal · 10/05/2014 23:28

I don't think anyone is barracking on this thread. Repeated calls of "they are talking our jobs and houses and benefits (with no evidence to support it) are being challenged with a more balanced view and relevant links.

Oh, and I missed this earlier:

"Would you stand in a field all day picking vegetables for £6.50 an hour, Lackadasycal?"

No Tucson, I feed, wash and wipe the backsides of an increasingly elderly and infirm section of society for effectively less than £6.50 an hour (I don't get paid for travelling time, I don't get paid if my care calls run over and I don't get paid if a service user sends me off early as there is nothing else required) and try to make their day a little bit brighter by spending time that I don't have and don't get paid for just chatting and treating them like a real person than a number on a balance sheet.

BeyondRepair · 10/05/2014 23:28

What you artistically left out, funnyossity, is the fact that I pointed out that Polish people tend to speak English

Well some EE immigrants somewhere are not speaking English there was a Hungarian lady on the radio saying she could not communicate well enough with the person she cared for - to care for them, on an article about people calling for a basic level of English being a necessity when working with people who need care.

funny I agree with you, some one pipes up, I am not keen on immigration so fast and in such huge numbers...and they are jumped on , called racists, cunts, daily mail readers, nothing they say is allowed to come from personal experience its all from the DM.

So where do these racist DM reading cunts go? They go to UKIP.

turgiday · 10/05/2014 23:30

Blathering UKIP leader Nigel Farage sparked outrage by insisting that women who took time off work to have children were “worth less” to City employers than men.

Mr Farage also said the country needed an ‘honest debate’ about our maternity laws which he said were placing a huge burden on small businesses.

I think many people who like UKIP, focus on one or two of their policies, and have no understanding of what UKIP really stand for.

aprilanne · 10/05/2014 23:34

ICOMOI i have already been to court and unless i put him in a rededential50 miles away there is nothing .and don,t tell me if i want to help my child .we have spent our savings on court fees and private doctors for him .but i will not put my angel in care because thats what a resedential school for the disabled is .and because we are over the threash hold we have to pay any court fees .

funnyossity · 10/05/2014 23:35

Wicked I am sorry for any offence but I am not your enemy. I am an old fashioned socialist (Oh no you are now getting me to bare my soul on the internet! enough!)

I am definitely not shit stirring. I grew up in a v traditional working class place and I am fed up of people I know being told that the EU is really good for them when logically we can see it's not all it's cracked up to be for some.

turgiday · 10/05/2014 23:36

"In the past few months Ukip has voted against updated rules on cab design and safety, which would make it easier for the drivers of lorries to spot pedestrians and cyclists. Also against requirements that MEPs who draft legislation should publish which lobbyists they have met and their influence on the legislation. It opposed greater transparency for clinical trials data and greater protections for holidaymakers buying package holidays. Also legislation to tackle money laundering and calls for greater public access to EU documents."

TalkinPeace · 10/05/2014 23:40

Nigel Farridge is a hypocrite.

No Euro immigrants : but its OK for him to employ his German wife rather than a British person

No Euro handouts : except that he has maxed his MEP expenses for years, including renting a room to himself for £15,000 a year funded by the EU

No free market : but he likes to be able to use Euros on holiday in Europe

hypocrisy

and his supporters arethe ones who CBA to read

funnyossity · 10/05/2014 23:43

turgid you are posting all the reasons I won't be voting UKIP.

Thank you.

jess888 · 10/05/2014 23:46

talkinpeace -

Ukip do not say they dont want any european immigrants but rather a points based system instead on an open door policy. Which I think most people would say is entirely reasonable.

Icimoi · 10/05/2014 23:49

Well some EE immigrants somewhere are not speaking English

No! What horror! And there are all those English expats in Spain speaking Spanish fluently in their English enclaves !

fifi669 · 10/05/2014 23:54

My dad will be voting UKIP in the European elections. He not a half wit or anything else that has been implied in this thread. It's his protest vote to the powers that be. He has stated he would never vote for them locally or nationally.

I think this may be the case with a lot of the older voters. They wouldn't want them in power but want their voice heard.

Icimoi · 10/05/2014 23:54

And yet, aprilanne, if UKIP got into power they would put your child in a residential home.

Icimoi · 10/05/2014 23:56

No Euro immigrants : but its OK for him to employ his German wife rather than a British person

And also OK for UKIP to employ Latvians to distribute their leaflets.

turgiday · 10/05/2014 23:56

• UKIP will prioritise social housing for those with parents and grandparents
born locally
