ENTITLED

gotnotimeforthat · 09/05/2014 12:28

I do not get this insult at all. It makes no sense ' 'soo entitled' ' how very entitled you are'
Just the words 'very entitled' do not roll of the tongue like a good insult should and by definition of the word it makes little to no sense

Am I missing something key here? Or this just a MN trend?

This is not an AIBU I posted here because this is where I see the word entitled being thrown around the most.

I think it is used to mean an unjustified sense of entitlement, rather than the actual state of being entitled to something.

pianodoodle · 09/05/2014 12:31

It is used in some funny contexts. I don't hear it outside this site :)

Seems to apply to anyone who isn't happy to wear a sack and live in a skip Grin

tethersend · 09/05/2014 12:33

YANBU.

Especially when the target of the insult is actually entitled to the things they appear to have a sense of entitlement to.

limitedperiodonly · 09/05/2014 12:36

YANBU When I next play that game where you have to sum yourself up in three words I'm going to say entitled, grabby and rude.

Brucietheshark · 09/05/2014 12:36

Oh God yes, YANBU.

This is often trotted out if you express any desire for anything ever on here.

And as for if you had the temerity to call an ambulance, well I'm sorry but a cardiac arrest or similar is just no excuse.

Brucietheshark · 09/05/2014 12:36

Oh god "grabby". Don't get me started.

EyelinerQueen · 09/05/2014 12:37

It's just MN's latest overused and thoroughly tedious buzzword.

Before 'entitled' it was 'unhinged'.

EyelinerQueen · 09/05/2014 12:38

Oh yes I forgot about 'grabby'!

Brucietheshark · 09/05/2014 12:38

I am going to start answering every AIBU with the message:

YABU. And entitled.

Those people love extra full stops too

gotnotimeforthat · 09/05/2014 12:38

brucie yeah i was 'entitled' for being pissed off at woman continuously propositioning her self for sex to my partner Hmm

gotnotimeforthat · 09/05/2014 12:39

gotnotime - no you are not allowed to call the OW's character into question. The fault is entirely with your DP and you must LTB.

But then I suppose you feel entitled to a monogamous relationship, you grabby witch.

DuckyMoDuckyMoMo · 09/05/2014 12:41

I posted about my mother used the line "you all know my mother" and was called entitled Grin

Not really an insult for me but only here it on here lol

gotnotimeforthat · 09/05/2014 12:41

I agree though 'entitled' is over used. already today i must have seen it used asan insult a good 3/4 maybe even more times. it is incredibly annoying.

Brucie I'm assuming you saw that post then because that's exactly how it went.

Its hard work being such an entitled cow i tell you.

pictish · 09/05/2014 12:45

I know that words do trend on here...but taking the mumnset element out of it, they are great words.
I love unhinged! It's enunciated with such acid.
Entitled is brilliantly descriptive.
Grabby has a coarseness that makes a point.

If you use the word 'unhinged' in real life, it has impact.

Mrsjayy · 09/05/2014 12:46

it is precious I dont understand you are being precious Confused nobody says that inR L do they and being entitled is the most ridiculous phrase i have ever heard, when ever i see it on here i always imagine it being said in a very snooty voice

Brucietheshark · 09/05/2014 12:47

Am going to try it Pictish - watch out local residents!

Mrsjayy · 09/05/2014 12:48

are you on glue is very funny though, same with its a sweet not crack

gotnotimeforthat · 09/05/2014 12:49

mrsjayy me too, i just imagine the poster looking down their nose in disgust at the 'entiled so and so'

I was called entitled for complaining that PIL wanted to come round at six am on Christmas morning as part of their uninvited gate crashing of Christmas.

I was really upset for a while and then it made me realise you should always take AIBU with a pinch of salt, because to someone you will always be unreasonable.

Now I quite like using 'entitled' in real life, but only if it is really justified!

gotnotimeforthat · 09/05/2014 12:50

i prefer 'are you high' rather than glue.

OP posts:
PoundingTheStreets · 09/05/2014 12:51

Oh no, Mrsjayy I've used the word 'precious' IRL. Blush

It was about a dog if that makes it any better? A golden retriever with a snooty attitude that just made me feel that if she was a person she'd be a right little madam with ideas above her station.

I like 'entitled'. It's just shorthand for 'sense of entitlement' isn't it? Basically means an expectation that you have every right to whatever it is you are claiming you should have. When often you haven't. I use it.

I also like disingenuous but don't think I've ever used 'grabby'.

In case I sound like a pretentious twat, I'm also very fond of fuckwit, which is an expression I only learned of on MN. Grin
