to think Carrie was a right bitch in Four Weddings and a Funeral?

Fair enough that she shagged Charles after the first wedding. The "are we engaged now?" joke wasn't funny, but still.
To then shag Charles at the second wedding while only just engaged to Scottish bloke was poor.
Inviting Charles to her wedding post-shag was iffy.
To then take Charles wedding-dress shopping and tell him about previous shags was shit of her. Plus she had a really expensive wedding-gift list and we all know how entitled that is.
To then have the audacity to attend his wedding when he's told her he loved her, AND to tell him moments before the ceremony that she'd left Scottish bloke - that was just cow-like behaviour.

Her only redeeming feature is that she had good taste in hats. I'm right, aren't I?

Yes, but her biggest crime of course was her awful acting.

Love Kristin Scott Thomas' character the most.

Summerbreezing · 09/05/2014 13:20

I could never understand how Charles fell for Carrie when he had Kristin Scott Thomas's character longing for him. She was more beautiful, and seemed to have more personality than Carrie who was a bit of a drip not to mention a slut,

MissMilbanke · 09/05/2014 13:23

Carrie was truly awful in every way.

KST on the other hand is fab. I want to be like her Grin

CogitoErgoSometimes · 09/05/2014 13:26

Did a space-time wormhole open up or something?.... Hmm

Hassled · 09/05/2014 13:27

Yes - if I could look like any sleb in the world it would be KST. She dubbed her own voice for the French translation - talented and beautiful.

I'd forgotten that Charlotte Coleman (Scarlett) died very young - really sad.

AMcD is (was?) very beautiful but her acting sucked big time. The character was totally unlikeable but cold and self centred and a bit nasty. Yes, if I was HG I would have jumped on KST and sod Carrie.

And who the hell did she know at these weddings? None of them had ever heard of her Confused

pinkstinks · 09/05/2014 13:28

Spoiler Alert!! Gah! Grin

Hassled · 09/05/2014 13:29

Re wormholes - it's been in my mind on account of its recent 20th anniversary (Radio 4 had a Reunion show - apparently the whole thing was filmed in 35 days). Rewatched it this morning (am off sick).

Cogito it's 20 years since it was released so there've been a few articles online and in the papered about it.

Yes Carrie was v. annoying. KST luvly though.

CitronVert · 09/05/2014 13:29

Xpost!

steff13 · 09/05/2014 13:31

I didn't care for her, but I'm not a fan of Andie McDowell on the whole. I haven't watched that movie in ages, now I kind of want to see it again.

CitronVert · 09/05/2014 13:32

Also Hugh Grant was best man at the first wedding so must have been pretty close to the groom, but then he disappears for the rest of the film, so what's going on there? Maybe Hugh cut him off after a gift list poem etiquette breach.

MrsWedgeAntilles · 09/05/2014 13:34

Scarlett was the best thing about that film

Coffeethrowtrampbitch · 09/05/2014 13:35

She does deserve a medal for delivering the line 'Is it raining? I hadn't noticed.' with a straight face as the rain poured down it because it is the worst and most cringe worthy line in the whole film. But I totally agree he would have been happier with KST.

squoosh · 09/05/2014 13:37

It's one of my guilty pleasure films.

LaCerbiatta · 09/05/2014 13:39

The groom from the 1st wedding was at HG's wedding (with twins) and the funeral.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 09/05/2014 13:39

KST was effortlessly elegant. I liked Scarlett too but the Lydia character must have been fun to play (Sophie Thompson).

squoosh · 09/05/2014 13:41

Bernard and Lydia are hilarious!

Hassled · 09/05/2014 13:43

That scene where Charles is trapped in the bedroom as Lydia + Gerald (?) shag is so excrutiating - it's perfectly done. Always makes me laugh.

OP posts:
Hassled · 09/05/2014 13:44

Yes, Bernard not Gerald.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 09/05/2014 13:44

Cringe!!

fairnotfair · 09/05/2014 13:45

"Is it raining?" is bad.
"I suppose I could skulk if skulking were required" is even worse.

SconeRhymesWithGone · 09/05/2014 13:46

And Carrie wore white to the first two weddings. Very bad form.

KST is often the best thing in any movie she is in. Did anyone see Salmon Fishing in the Yemen?

ShelaghTurner · 09/05/2014 13:52

DH loves this film and does impressions of Bernard during his wedding day shag at....er... inappropriate times. Hmm
