to think Carrie was a right bitch in Four Weddings and a Funeral?

Fair enough that she shagged Charles after the first wedding. The "are we engaged now?" joke wasn't funny, but still.
To then shag Charles at the second wedding while only just engaged to Scottish bloke was poor.
Inviting Charles to her wedding post-shag was iffy.
To then take Charles wedding-dress shopping and tell him about previous shags was shit of her. Plus she had a really expensive wedding-gift list and we all know how entitled that is.
To then have the audacity to attend his wedding when he's told her he loved her, AND to tell him moments before the ceremony that she'd left Scottish bloke - that was just cow-like behaviour.

Her only redeeming feature is that she had good taste in hats. I'm right, aren't I?

In the wedding line up, Scone, when talking to the bride's parents!

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 09/05/2014 15:21

Not sure who would have been better....

Trying to think of tall actresses around Andie's age.
Madeleine Stowe?

Er that was a definite no then.

Joan Allen?
Diane Lane?

HesterShaw · 09/05/2014 15:24

Deborah Winger. About the right age I think. More or less anyway.

ShelaghTurner · 09/05/2014 15:24

Andie McD's understudy

to think Carrie was a right bitch in Four Weddings and a Funeral?
HesterShaw · 09/05/2014 15:25

DeBRA rather. Maybe she's a touch on the mature side actually. 39 in 1994.

squoosh · 09/05/2014 15:25

Maybe Geena Davis, she was good back in the 90's. She did free spirited well. Or Annette Bening if they wanted more of a career woman type.

Andie M did look good in the part.

squoosh · 09/05/2014 15:26

Oh I love Diane Lane, think she's so beautiful, but she probably looks too physically similar to KST.

HesterShaw · 09/05/2014 15:27

And SOME of the lines she did were quite funny. E.g. "that was very romantic" and that raised eyebrow and quick "excuse me" when Charles says "Rumour has it she never stopped bonking old Toby Delarez in case you never worked it out" to Duckface's brother and he says "She's now my wife" in a strangled tone.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 09/05/2014 15:27

Sandra Bullock too young back then?

I can't watch it now because I have trouble watching things with actors who died young (I mentioned this before and I was THRILLED that another MNetter had exactly the same as me because mostly people look at me like I'm weird if I say it in RL). But back when it was on TV quite a bit I used to amuse myself during AMcD's boring bits by making a list of actors who would have been better in that role than her. It was a very long list, and they weren't even all females. They were all human though as although there are animals who are better actors than she is it would have been a bit distasteful to have had an animal playing the love interest. Grin

Hassled · 09/05/2014 15:31

Whatsername. Meg Ryan. She'd have done it well - very pretty, right sort of age, good comic timing.

Worst thing about Carrie was showing up at the funeral just to tell Charles she liked the way he'd said he was in love with her.

A. He's burying one of his closest friends.
B. You just got married to someone else!!!!!

HOW effing self involved and inappropriate.

squoosh · 09/05/2014 15:33

Oh no! Meg Ryan is the only person who would have been even more irritating in that role.

HesterShaw · 09/05/2014 15:35

Yes, too blonde, too sweet.

HesterShaw · 09/05/2014 15:37

Actually I think AD wasn't THAT bad. Who the hell can say "I suppose I could skulk if skulking were required" and not subject themselves to universal derision?

SuperFlyHigh · 09/05/2014 15:53

can't remember Carrie just remember Duckface and Charlotte Coleman (so sad) and lusting over Hugh Grant. Grin

SuperFlyHigh · 09/05/2014 15:54

oh her. Andie's always annoyed me. don't ask why.

reallywittyname · 09/05/2014 20:07

I think Elizabeth McGovern (Cora from Downton) would have been much better as Carrie, she'd have made her likeable and can, you know, ACT.

nochips · 09/05/2014 20:21

Could not bear AMD. Never saw the attraction. Like Julia Roberts in Notting Hill. Great film, but I always wanted to scream at JR 'You are just a fucking actress! You are not the Queen, or the Secretary general of the UN'. Th obsequiousness of it all made me queasy.

KST is just so wonderful.

SconeRhymesWithGone · 09/05/2014 20:53

Hester No, I meant I don't understand why a woman's parents should be proud of her getting married. Pleased and happy, yes, proud, not so sure.

I have also heard that Andie is very nice in RL.
